First of all, he knows Katniss way better than Peeta. Peeta just got lucky with Katniss, and for a long time he had her believing that he was pretending to like her only for the games.

Gale loved her for a long time, and he loved her for who she was. Peeta just had a crush on her because she could sing, and because she was pretty. He did not know her. He never talked to her. Sounds shallow to me! But Gale loved her for her spirit, which is far more important than beauty.

Gale took care of Katniss so well! He gave her meat, and Peeta gave her burnt bread. Once.

When Katniss went to the games, Gale still helped her family even though she was making out with Peeta on screen. And when she came back, although he was jealous, Gale was happy that she was still alive.

To top that off, he's Australian inside.

First of all, Peeta's loved Katniss longer than Gale. He loved her since the moment he laid eyes on her. Very romantic. Also, Peeta did not get lucky. He made his own decision to create the fake romance. He took initiative, unlike Gale, who waited for a few months to tell and only cuz he was jealous.

Peeta loved her at first sight, is there anything more romantic that that? I doubt it. And he did not just love her for how she looked. He also observed her spirit and determination, although he never experienced it personally, until the arena.

Peeta swore to protect her with his life. Everyday, he would want to break with his friends and go sit with Katniss. Before the games, he made her desirable, the object of affection to help gain sponsors, which could save her life. In the arena, he advised her not to go to the bloodbath. He led the careers away from her. He told her not to go to the feast, because she might get hurt. And that's only the first book. In the second one, Peeta volunteered at the reaping to take her place. He trained them as careers, to give them a better chance. Then, once in there, he protected her from everything. Trying to keep her as safe as possible. At the end he sacrificed himself for her. In Mockngjay, Peeta told her not to eat the night lock pills, therefore saving her life again. He gave her hope, a promise of a fresh start, a new beginning. Gale just left her, heartbroken and looking for answers. Peeta stayed with her through her troubled times.

Peeta is a true romantic, he wears his heart on his sleeve and he's the sweetest boy ever. He truly loves her. Gale was just platonic love, but Peeta was madly in love with her ever since day 1.

peeta so won because at the end he said that he would never forget what happened in the arena. he doesn't want to forget which means he really loves her and thinks she is a great person. katniss never left him abandoned which shows they have true love. she cared for him and helped heal him and she ;ayed there and never left. they were truley made for each other

There are no teams if Katniss already chose who she loved the most. Plus, the books aren't even about the love triangle, if some people took their heads out of their and paid attention to the trilogy for once. The books are about the rebellion against the Capitol. The love triangle is just to spice it up and to captivate the interest of the readers so that they don't get bored with the main problem.
About Peeta, there's nothing wrong for loving somebody just by the sight of them. If you truly love somebody, you just know. Plus, can you just imagine how much courage it would take somebody to admit their love for someone in front of them and the entire world? Peeta literally told the entire world that he loved Katniss. Peeta definitely took a lot of precautions to keep Katniss safe during the Games, and that shows that he really does love Katniss.
About Gale, his love wasn't platonic love. He admitted that he loved Katniss in the beginning of the first book. He never said that after the Games. In the first book, he talks about how they could run away together, raise a family. He told her again AFTER the Games because he believed Katniss and Peeta were truly in love, and he didn't want to lose her. He had a right to be jealous, he was watching the one he loved make out with somebody on screen a lot of times. Wouldn't YOU be jealous if you saw your crush making out with somebody? Also, Gale truly showed his love because even though he was angry with Katniss during the Games because of what she was doing with Peeta, he still took the best care of her family to keep them alive. He's like a brother to Prim and like a son to Mrs. Everdeen. Isn't that what a good husband would do?
I think Peeta is cute and all, but personally, I prefer Gale.
