+there were these men going round in white vans in this town near the one I live in and everyone thought they had got caught but the next day it was really warm and we were all walking home from school and we split up by these lights to go down our quiet roads and my friend saw this white van parked with men in and she walked past it(on the opposite side of the road) and they started the engine and chased her but she turned into her culdesac and the van got cut off but another car but later that day two of my other friends were still walking home really late but it was summer so still light and the van started chasing them(it was the same people) they ran and in the end they had to go to a near neighbours house and get picked up by their dads because the van wouldn't leave and was parked outside the house..

Oh my god thats terrifying I think Ive heard that before like if you do go into a neighbors house dont leave by yourself because like you said they could be waiting, even if you cant see them they migh be like around a corner waiting for you or something.And tat nose thing v is really good thanks for sharing that :)

You aren't supposed to attack their groin because they can easily grab you (arm, leg) and pull you to the ground, you're supposed to hit the bottom of their nose up (where the holes are up, HARD) because its really painful and should distract them better than hitting them in the groin because if they stop you in time you can't get away easy whereas with the nose you build up enough time to run away.

One of my friends was walking to school one time and two guys asked her to get into their cars and they grabbed her and she fought and managed to run away from them. She didnt come to school for two weeks.

On a serious note, Running away from someone, is going to get you killed.. you can get shot in the head, neck, or spine, but you know, no major organs damages... To be quite open, if someone has a gun to your head, you are going to die. Even if you do something that they force you to do, when a gun is involved and their face is shown, they don't plan on keeping you alive for very long.

yeah thats true like my mum said if anyone is ever trying to steal your car or whatever and has a gun, just give them the keys and dont get shot, but at the same time they might be planning to kill you after anyways you know?

The eyes are another really weak spot. As gross as it sounds, it can do a LOT of damage if you manage to shove your fingers into the attacker's eye sockets. A few other good spots to target (if you really really need to, of course the first thing you should do is run and call for help) are the temples, throat, and stomach. Anywhere soft or on the head is a good place to do damage. Thanks for posting this, people need to know.

My mum was once almost a victim. She was at a bus stop and the man tried to pull her by the neck.
My mum always tells me, if you are attacked, always pay attention to your surroundings, my mum escaped by screaming that the bus was coming.

As much as this scared the hell out of me it is still really helpful.
There is a 711 by my house well not by but close enough to walk to and you have to walk through the woods, so me and my friend walked through the woods which is behind peoples back yards and just as we are out the woods the dog is walking around so me and my friend stop and we see this old man, and he starts to talk to us and we pet the dog and kinda just ran away after that saftely into the store. It scared the sh/t outta me i was just glad my friend was with me and we had our phones if we needed them.

So one time I was walking to my mom's work after school ,and the lady my mom works with said that she saw me walking, and she saw these guys in a car look at me, turn around and start following me, and it's funny, because I was wearing short shorts, but they were kinda baggy (like running shorts), my hair was in a ponytail, and I was looking at my phone while walking. Luckily I saw some friends and ran up to them, but I had no idea the guys were following me. Pretty creepy. But anyways, it makes sense why they were following me now.

Thanks for posting this! its really helpful and although I'm kind of scared now its better to be paranoid and safe than oblivious and in danger.
A lot of the things that you said not to do were things that i did and the defense/escape tips were things that I wouldn't have thought of.

Look I'm not an expert on this subject so I can't really argue all I know is that this gives defensive tips that probably have and probably will save lives in the future and I felt that r/pe was such a wide spread and common occupancy it should be shared. If you don't like the ops or advice it's giving out you don't have to follow it.

I'm not an expert either, which is why if advice is given out like this over the Internet it is good to fact check it. There are defensive tips in here which I learned at a self defense class, however most of the tactics expressed here aren't reliable and therefore shouldn't be followed, which is what I was stating to the readers of this quote in the first place. It's one thing to not like the advice, but it's another to spread information which won't be helpful to those who would rely on this.

As I've already stated, there are defensive tips in here which I learned in self defense class, however most of these can be debunked. Mostly, self defense is only well if you practice it consistently. These would all be successful provided that there is one "signature style rapist" but there isn't. If the information provided here were 100% true and successful, then wouldn't be as prevalent as a crime as it is right now - especially since this piece has been on the net since circa 2001. The very vital information provided though is be aware of your surroundings, and honestly, that couldn't be any true. But, if you agree that that is the only piece of reliable information, then you see that the rest of the writing won't be helpful for anyone.

And not that this is reticent but I've taken self defense classes for over a decade and I too have learnt helpful things in there.

Thank you for posting this. You easily could have indirectly saved many lives. When I was about eight or nine, I was playing outside with my cousin. We were near the parking lot of the building, and a man pulled up in a big bus/van. He told us that he accidentally locked his trunk and asked us if we would crawl inside and open it from there for him. We ran inside and told my older sister. She came outside with us, but the man was already gone. It was really scary.
