    “What they don't understand about birthdays and what they never tell you is that when you're eleven, you're also ten, and nine, and eight, and seven, and six, and five, and four, and three, and two, and one. And when you wake up on your eleventh birthday you expect to feel eleven but you don't. You open your eyes and everything's just like yesterday only it's today. And you don't feel eleven at all. You still feel like you're ten. And you are -- underneath the year that makes you eleven.
    Like some days you might say something stupid, and that's the part of you that's still ten. Or maybe some days you need to sit on your mama's lap because you're scared, and that's the part of you that's five. And maybe one day when you're all grown up maybe you will need to cry like you're three, and that's okay. That's what I tell Mama when she's sad and needs to cry. Maybe she's feeling three.
    Because the way you grow old is kind of like an onion or like the rings inside a tree trunk or like my little wooden dolls that fit one inside the other, each year inside the next one. That's how being eleven years old is.

    My best friend of almost 10 years texted me today asking if i was going to be with my dad for my birthday this year. i told her i was and asked her why she wanted to know and she answered with her shipping date. She wanted to make sure she got to spend it with me because this could be the last one for a long time.She has been getting ready to be sent for basic training and i know military police is what she really wants to do BUT i didn't realize how real this all was until our conversation today. I didn't realize all the things we take for granted.... like birthdays.

    I never understood why people would congratulate/make a big deal about birthdays, it never made sense to me why it was such a big occasion because all you were doing was living - but now through the years I have understood why, I know understand the struggle involved in living in making it to your next birthday.
    I know understand why birthdays should be celebrated and that makes me kinda sad.

    I hate when your
    Birthday's coming up
    & people say "Oh I'll get you a present, what do you want?" like I know you're not going to get me anything. Stop pretending. & I hate having a birthday on a school day and a bunch of people wish me a happy birthday by hearing other people say it. Like please stop, I know you don't care that today's my birthday. It's no different than yesterday, or tomorrow.

    The Other Day;
    My dad, my cousin jackie and i go to friendly's. Were there getting icecream and such and my dad abrutply gets up and walks to the bathroom. Jackie and I keep talking and my dad comes back and sits down. We're all laughing and everything until the waiter comes singing happy birthday. I was confused my birthday is in October, Jackie's is in December and my dad's is in July, so the waiter comes and I go "wwhhaattttt?!" Jackie just starts laughing harder and right now my dad's on the floor laughing so hard he probably peed himself. The waiter places the icecream in front of me and goes "shhh i know, your embarrassed that your getting older i understand.. fifteen is just such a hard age, its okay, eat your icecream.. happy birthday. shhh dont resist it." and then i just sat there like "O.o"
