Chapter 32
I was shocked, and I'm sure he could tell. 
"S-sorry." I said, closing the door quickly and trying to breathe. So that's why he stopped talking to me. And that's why Louis was acting weird. But why hadn't I heard about the relationship in the tabloids? 
I walked back to my room and braided my hair, brushed my teeth, fixed my makeup, and tried not to cry. All I can say is that dinner's going to be awkward tonight. Harry walked into my room and it's obvious that he knew I saw Niall and that girl together. 
"How are you holding up?" he asked, sitting on the bed next to me. I looked at him before I gave him an honest answer. 
"I should have known. I was upset when he just stopped talking to me, no explanation. But what I just saw in the guest room, well I guess that was an explanation." I said. Silence. 
"How long?" I asked, and Harry sighed. 
"They're not even really together. I mean, she wants to be with him, but he says he's afraid of getting his heart broken." Harry told me. 
"Great. It's all my fault." I said, getting up and pacing around the room. 
"Come on, dinner's ready. You can sit next to me. You'll get through this." he said, walking out the door. I followed him to the dining room, where everybody else was already seated, even my father. 
"A toast, to finally having the lovely Haylie back in the household!" my mother said, raising her champagne glass. I took my glass and chugged it. Louis stared at me, confused, but when he saw that girl practically on Niall, he nodded his head, understanding. 
We talked about how classes were going, and everybody was proud of me for being third in my class after the first semester. 
"So are you going to introduce me?" I asked, raising my eyebrows at Niall. He got red, probably embarassed, but I don't really care right now. For some reason, I was mad at him. 
"Uh, this is Carrie." he said, and she shot me a tight smile. So I guess she didn't like me either. 
"You must be the Haylie that everyone's talking about." she said.
"That's me." I said, annoyed.
"Well, I can't wait to get to know you!" she said, kind of excitedly. I couldn't tell if she liked me or hated me, but she was up to something. 
"Don't count on it. I don't know if you've heard, but apparently every time I get close to someone, I leave them. Some may even say I break their heart." I said, my eyes staring directly at Niall, as if he were the only person in the room. 
My father cleared his throat, noticing the tension in the air. 
"Pass the butter please." he said, and I reached for the dish, handing it to him. A few minutes later, I decided I didn't want to be here anymore. 
"May I be excused?" I said, pushing my chair back.
"Sure, get some rest." my mother said, and I walked to my room. I sat on my bed, hugging a pillow to my chest, trying to clear my head. I had just called Maria and told her everything, and she really didn't know what I should do. So I just decided silence was the only thing that could help me right now. 
That didn't last long though, because I heard a soft knock on my door about an hour later. 
"Who is it?" I asked, my voice quiet. 
"Niall." he said, his voice filling my ears. 
"I'm kind of busy." I said, even though I really wasn't. 
"Haylie, please." he begged. I didn't budge though, and he didn't leave either. Finally, I walked over to the door and unlocked it. He pushed it open and walked in. I walked into the bathroom and pretended to be interested in a strand of hair, which actually bored me. I walked out and sat on the chair in the corner. 
"Do you need something?" I asked, and he shook his head. 
"Then you can go." I said, starting to unpack and ack uninterested in Niall. 
"Actually, I need to talk to you." he said. 
"Oh, so now you can talk." I snapped. 
"What's wrong?" he asked. As if he didn't already know.
"You. You text me everyday and skype me more than once a week for months, then one day I don't a text. And the next day, no skype call. Nothing. I wanna know why." I said.
"Because of Carrie. She was jealous." he told me. 
"How long have you known her?" I asked, and he replied two months.
"So you're willing to give up our friendship or whatever the he/l this is for some chick you met two months ago? I bet you don't even know her middle name." I said, raising my voice. He didn't respond.
"Niall, I loved you. And when you agreed to talk to me every day, I was ecstatic. I was going to give us a second chance." I said, and it was true. I was going to ask Niall out right when I got back from the airport. Too bad he was swapping spit with some other girl.
"I really thought we could be a couple again. I even thought about transferring to Oxford." I said. I could see he looked guilty now, but I wasn't done. 
"But I don't know if it's worth it. If I drop everything and come back. Who knows if you decide to not talk to me again? Then it would have been a waste." I finished. He stared at me, moving closer. 
"She's not my girlfriend." he said. 
"That's all you have to say?" I questioned, my voice cracking. We were so close, our skin was touching.
"You would do all that for me?" he asked softly. 
"In a heartbeat." I whispered. 
Before I knew it, his arms were wrapped around my waist, mine around his neck. He pulled me close to him, our lips touching. It was magical, it was amazing, it was perfect. 
It was exactly what I wanted.

I think I'm going to do 3 more chapters for this story, then I'm going to start me new one! who will read it? feedback?!
