I was talking with my friend the other day. Our close friend is severly depressed and he is really struggling. She said to me that she just didn't get depression.
Her: I don't get it. I mean I'm sad sometimes but I'm mostly always happy. I don't get how someone can be that sad.
Me: You don't get it because you don't struggle with it. Be grateful for that.
Her: I am I still just don't understand it.
Me: Depression is like drowning. Except when you are depressed, you can see everyone around you breathing.
Her: How does that relate to depression?
Me: You are just so sad for no reason and sinking. You can't get any air. You can't escape. But you just see everyone around you so happy. And then you realize that you don't have that. And you just keep sinking into a darker and darker place because no one comes to pull you out of the water.
Her: Oh.. thats so sad!
Me: Thats the point.
