I Love to Hate You
PROLOGUE
"But it's opening night! Where else am I supposed to find a bouncer last minute?" I yelled through the phone, becoming impatient.
"Really? Some motorcyle show is more important than the opening night of a karaoke bar that belongs to your neice that you've known your entire life?" I asked, tapping my french manicured nails on the granite countertop.
"Fine. Send him. Yeah, have fun." I said, clicking the 'end' button on my brand new iPhone. I can't believe it. Opening night of my karaoke club, and my uncle decides to ditch. And he tells me the day of! I shook my head and sighed, walking into the small bathroom in my apartment.
"Everything's going to work out great." I said to myself, trying to believe the words that just came out of my mouth. I looked in the mirror and smiled to myself.
My name's Carly Thompson, and I'm nineteen years old. Right now, I'm residing in the UK, where I grew up. I lived in London up until the end of my sophomore year of high school. I moved the summer before my junior year, because I just couldn't handle it anymore. I wasn't pretty. I wasn't funny. I was a nobody, and it really wasn't easy. I was picked on continuously, which is the reason why I moved.
I didn't want to give in, but I just couldn't take it. So over the past three years I've been gone, I've gone from gross to glamorous. I lost over seventy-five pounds, and now weighed a healthy 120. I re-created my wardrobe, buying designer names and cute clothes. Most importantly though, I became more outgoing and confident. Standing in front of the mirror smiling, I am a different person than the girl I was all those years ago.
Being back in London has been dificult. I never really had any friends here, so the only person I hang out with is my twenty-one year old cousin, Madison. She's always there for me though, so that's a good thing. It's been really awkward when I see people I went to high school with for the first two years around town, because they don't recognize me. Or maybe they just didn't remember me.
But I think the hardest thing about moving back to England is that I have to deal with the news stories surrounding One Direction, the most famous boy band right now. Hearing about those five boys makes my stomach churn.
You see, Liam Payne and I were classmates. But that's it. We weren't friends, we weren't pals, we weren't acquaintances. We were simply two people who had some classes together.
We were enemies. Liam never liked me, and the feeling was mutual. It's not that he picked fights with me or spread nasty rumors, he just made fun of me along with all the other cool kids. And it really hurt, although I would never let him know that.
So here I am now, gorgeous, funny, and the owner of a soon-to-be-successful karaoke club, called 'Carly's Karaoke.' All the kids who teased me in middle school and high school, they will be shocked. Because Carly Thompson's back. And I'm better than ever.
