    Slipping Away
    Chapter 2
Yesterday at practice Vivian found out she was moving, to Twisp Washington. It was time that we voted on a new Head Cheerleader, which also meant we needed a new Co-captain. Guess what, I was voted head cheerleader! That means I have to wear my uniform everyday, but I haven't told Maddie that I'm a cheerleader yet...she hates the Cherrios.
Today, during 5th period I got a request to report note during 6th period.
As I walked down the empty hallway towards the gym I ran into Maddie.
"Hey, Penny. What are you doing?"
"I have a request to report."
    "Oh, where you headed?"
    "The locker room."
    "Why?" Maddie asked, confused.
    "I don't know, it didn't say."
    "Oh, well see ya."
    "See ya."
I walked into the locker room, into Ms. McKenny's office. I knocked on the door.
    "Come in." Ms. McKenny said.
I walked in, "Hi, Ms. McKenny. I got a request to report..."
She looked at me, "Ah, yes. Ms. Jackson. You are varsity head cheerleader, correct?"
    "Yes."
She reached over and grabbed a ribbon from her top desk drawer, "Here is your gold ribbon, you must wear it whenever you are wearing your uniform. Everyday."
"Why do I need a new ribbon?"
"Captain get's a gold ribbon, co-captain get's blue with a gold stripe down the middle, and everyone else get's blue ribbons."
    "Oh, I see."
"Are you prepared to declare your co-captain today at practice?"
    "Yes, I am."
"Good. You may go back to class now."
I walked back to class, holding the ribbon in my hand. I got the gold ribbon, I thought. I am head cheerleader, I have the power over the other cheerios. Who am I going to choose as my co-captain? I think either Melanie or Katy...I have some time to figure it out. Either way, our squad is going to be even more amazing than we already are.
    I'm head cheerleader.

    Slipping Away
    Chapter 1
"Hey, Penny." I heard Maddie say cheerily.
I turned towards the voice, "Hey, Mads."
    "What's up?"
    "Uhhh...not much."
"Do you wanna do something today?"
    "I-I can't, sorry."
    "Why?"
"I...I promised my mom I would babysit the twins."
    "That's okay, I'll come along."
    "No, really. You can't."
    "Why?"
"Hey, P!" I heard a cheery voice call.
I turned toward the voice, the cheerleaders.
    "Hey Viv!" I called back.
Then I turned back to Maddie, "Hey, I gotta go. Bye Mads."
"Wait," Maddie said, "Why do you have a cheerleader nickname?"
    "W-what?"
"The cheerleaders, they always call each other by their nicknames...when do they ever talk to you?"
"It's no big deal, I gotta go." I said as I hurridly grabbed my duffle bag with my cheer uniform in it, and ran off.
I ran around the building and into the gym from the far entrence. I walked into the girl's varsity locker room. Everyone else was already there, of course I had to be late because of Maddie.
"Hey, guys, sorry I'm late." I said as I hurried to change.
"Pen, what's up?" Vivian, head cheerleader, asked.
    "Whatdya mean?"
"Who was the nerdy girl you were talking to?"
"Oh, that's this girl named Madison."
    "Oh." Vivian said with disgust.
Then we all walked out to practice.

    Hey "Broken" Fans!
Witty apparently hates me right now, I tried adding another chapter of broken, and it keeps saying it's too long. I even shortened it down to just the title and said it was too long. I have the chapter saved to my computer, and I will try again tomorrow. So sorry!

    Chapter 18- Olivia's POV
"Tyler!" I screamed as I ran into his open arms!
"Olivia! I can't believe I found you!" He cried.
He held me tight, tighter than ever, "I'm never letting you go." He said.
Suddenly, from an adjacent room I heard, "Livvy? Who's there?"
"It's just me and a friend mom!" I called back.
Then my "mother" came into the room. She's a slightly heavy set women, with long brown hair pulled into a pony tail.
    "Hey, mom."
"Hi sweetie." She said smiling, then she looked at Tyler and stopped, dead cold.
"M-mom?" I asked, "Are you alright?"
Then I looked at Tyler and back at her, "This, this is..."
    "Tyler." She whispered.
    "Y-yeah, how'd you know?"
She looked at us both, "He's your brother. I'm almost sure of it. Same hair, same eyes, same intense gaze."
    "M-m-my brother?"
    "Yes." Tyler said.
I looked at him, "How do you know? Is that why you approached me that day on the beach? What do you want from me?"
"Calm down, I know because I could tell how alike we really are. I didn't know that first day on the beach, and all I want from you is for you to come home safely."
"I don't belong with Karen and Dean," I whispered, "I belong with my mother. This woman may not be my biological mother, but she's the closest thing I've ever had."
"Liv, I know you love her, but she has to return to her family, and you have to return to yours."
    "Karen and Dean aren't family..."
Tyler cut me off, "I wasn't talking about Karen and Dean. I was talking about my mom and dad."
"They gave me up, Ty. Why would they want me back?"
    "They didn't give you up..."
I cut him off, "Y-yes they did."
"No, they didn't. They adopted me, about a year after you were put into the care of your mom."
I just looked at him, why didn't he tell me and how did he know?
As if he could read my mind he said, "I found out one day. Come live with us, it's for the better."
I nodded, and gave my mom one last hug as I whispered, "Goodbye, forever."
Then with tears slowly rolling down my face Tyler put one arm around me and led me to the door.

    Chapter 17
I walked down the boardwalk, "I wish I knew where you were" I mumbled to myself.
I walked towards the volleyball net, there hanging from the net was a lavender envelope. I ran towards it, I ripped it open and read,
You're really close. Just remember one more thing to know where I am, where did I get the 'L' shaped pendant on my necklace?
I thought for a moment, her mother. The one adult who she considered a parent.
"But how do I find you?" I said out loud.
I turned around, and walked back down the boardwalk towards my house, there, taped to the mailbox was another lavender envelope. I opened it.
    8012 Salsburry Lane
That's just a couple miles away, I thought. I called Jason as soon as I got into my room.
    "Jason." I said.
    "Yeah, bro."
    "I need you're help."
    "Sup?"
    "I think I've found Olivia."
"Sweet bro, what do you need me to do?"
"Do you know where Salsburry Lane is?"
    "Yeah."
    "Could ya take me?"
"Course man, be there in 10."
    "See ya in 10."
I hung up the phone, grabbed my back pack, my phone, my wallet, some extra cash and some extra clothes. I ran out the door, just in time to hop into Jason's car. We were on our way, finally after what felt like hours of driving we pulled up in front of 8012 Salsburry Lane.
"You sure this is the place?" Jason asked.
    "I'm sure."
"Okay" Jason said openning the door.
"Wait, wait, what are you doing?" I asked.
    "Going with you."
"Nah man, I'll be fine. Let me do this on my own."
He shrugged and let me walk across the mosaic stepping stones up the porch steps. I knocked. Nobody answered, I looked inside, it was dark. I tried the door, it opened. I leaned my head inside, "Olivia?" I called.
    "Tyler?" I heard Olivia call.
    "Olivia!" I cried louder.
Then suddenly a light went on and Olivia ran into my open arms.

    Chapter 16
I stood there. This can't be happenning. She can't just leave me like this. What can I do to find her? Let's see, every envelope is lavender, purple, her favorite color. These hints are all about something we've done together. What else can I do?
My mom interrupted my thoughts, "Tyler? Your friends are here."
I looked up at her, a little dazed.
"They want to go to the beach."
I nodded and walked down the stairs to the front door.
There they were, Kellan, Jason, Carter and...where's Ricky?
    I stepped outside, "Where's Ricky?"
    "He's grounded." Jason replied.
    "Oh..." I trailed off.
"Dude are you okay?" Carter asked, sounding worried.
    "Y-yeah, I'm fine."
"Man you don't look so good." Jason said.
    "It's fine. It's...it's just that Olivia's gone."
    They all stood there, speachless.
Jason broke the silence, "What do you mean by...gone?"
"She just left, nobody knows where. Not Karen or Dean, or anybody."
"Gosh man I'm so sorry." Carter said, patting my back.
    "Whatever..." I trailed off.
Then a sarcastic voice said from behind, "Told you she was no good."
My head snapped in the direction the voice had come from, Ricky.
"I don't even know why you cared about her." Ricky said.
Then I angrily shot, "I cared about her because she's my sister!"
Everyone fell silent, I couldn't believe what I had just said. I mean, I knew I had a hunch but I wasn't certain.
    Jason said, "Yo-your sister?"
    Carter said, "Olivia? Really?"
I just looked at them, "I don't know for sure, but I have to find out."
They all nodded, and I walked back inside.
I decided I needed to find Olivia. NOW.

    Chapter 15
As I walked up the porch steps to my house I saw a box sitting on the porch swing where Olivia and I would always sit. I picked it up, no name or address. It was just a box, wrapped in purple paper, tied with a while ribbon. I took the box inside with me.
Once I was in my room I untied the ribbon and unwrapped it. I folded back the lavender tissue paper. Inside was a little purple note card that said, Look by our favorite ice cream shop.
I looked inside, there was nothing else in there. That was it.
I quickly ran down the steps towards the boardwalk and into Freezy's Ice Cream shop. I walked in, but nobody was there. I thought about what Olivia would do if we were in there together, then I realized she would buy some ice cream. I checked by the Rocky Road ice cream flavor, her favorite. Sure enough there taped to the glass over the Rocky Road name tag was a lavender envelope.
I grabbed the envelope and walked outside. I opened it. Inside it read, "Guess what we're going to do today." -Tyler
I looked at it, preplexed. Then I realized it was a quote. Something I had said to her on the beach. What did we do that day? Why couldn't I remember? Surfing. We went surfing that day! I ran over to the surf shop. As soon as I got inside Jonah, the owner handed me my board and said, "Have fun Tyler!"
    I nodded, "Thanks."
I ran outside, and ther tapped to the back of my surf board was another lavendar envelope. I opened it, Louie's got a hot pizza waiting for you. Be sure to check the bottom of the box.
I ran to Louie's but it was closed. This had to be a mistake. I read the last note again. Be sure to check the bottom of the box. What? Louie's pizza doesn't come in a box unless the deliver. That's it! I ran home as fast as I could. There, sitting on the door mat was a Louie's pizza box. I opened it but there was nothing inside. Then I flipped the box over. Tapped to the bottom was another lavender envelope.
    It said, Make up.
I ran to Olivia's house and into her room. I walked straight to her bathroom where all her make up was still sitting. Underneath her eye shadow was a small box, purple paper, white ribbon. I walked home and opened it. All that was inside was her necklace. The one she always wears with the rinestone 'L' and the charm I gave her. This can't be right.

    Chapter 14- Tyler's POV
I woke up kind of late. I looked out the window, the sun was high. I turned my head the other way towards the clock, then I shot out of bed.
"Crap! Crap! Crap! Crap!" I muttered to myself.
It's already 10:30, Olivia's probably waiting for me. I knew I shouldn't have stayed up late last night. I threw a t-shirt on and some board shorts then grabbed my sunglasses and my phone and ran down the stairs. I was about to walk out the door when I saw a small piece of paper taped to the outside of the window. I reached outside and grabbed it. I unfolded it, I read it.
    Dear Tyler,
I'm so sorry I didn't say goodbye. I'm hoping you'll know what to do when you read this. Remember that conversation on the beach we had a while back? When I told you you never know when you could lose someone? Do you remember how I told you to find me, if you ever needed to? If not, try your best to remember. By the time you read this I'll be gone. I can't tell you where I'm going, but I can tell you I will always be close.
    Love always,
    Livvy
"No. No no no no no no." I whispered.
This, this can't be true. She didn't leave. She wouldn't.
Out of instinct I ran through the back alley to Livvy's house. I ran up the steps to her house and rapidly pressed the doorbell.
Karen answered, worriedly she said, "Oh, Tyler. I thought you were Olivia."
    "She's really gone?"
    "What-what do you mean?"
I handed her the note that was on my window. She read it, then looked at me.
    "Y-you knew?"
I looked at her, "I found this tapped to my window this morning."
"Where could she have gone? What did she tell you about finding her."
I thought for a minute, "She said I would need basic information to find her someday."
"Well what kind of things? What can I do to help?"
I knew Karen wouldn't like hearing this but I knew it was the right thing to say.
"Karen, I know you're worried. But Olivia also told me that I wouldn't be able to find her if I had other people helping me. This is something I have to do on my own."
With that I turned and walked through the bushes, down the back alley and to my house.

    Chapter 13
Midnight. Just another half hour until my mom's car would be here, just around the corner. I did one last final check to make sure I had everything. I was ready to go, but for some reason I kept stopping myself from calling Tyler. I don't know why I wanted to talk to him so badly. I just needed to let him know that I was going to be okay. Finally I decided I would write a note, I would put it on his front door before I left.
    The note read:
    Dear Tyler,
I'm so sorry I didn't say goodbye.
    Love always,
    Livvy
I folded the note in half then quietly snuck out the door and headed through the back alley to Tyler's house. As I approached his porch I could see a light on in his bedroom window. I had to be sneaky, he was still awake. If he saw me I wouldn't be able to leave. I quickly ran up the porch steps and taped the note to the window. Then I scurried down the steps and through the bushes. I only had about fifteen minutes before my mom's car would be here.
I got back into my house and grabbed my bags. I glaced at the clock, 11:55 pm. I might as well go downstairs and wait. As I crept down the hall I heard Karen walking around in her room. The door opened slowly, I froze dead in my tracks. Quickly I stashed my bags in the hall closet to my right.
    "Olivia?" Karen said drowsily.
    "Yeah.."
    "What are you doing sweetie?"
"Just getting a drink of water."
"Oh okay. Well get back to bed, it's almost midnight."
I nodded and pretended to go to the bathroom to get a drink. Then when I was sure the coast was clear I snuck back out, grabbed my bags and ran down the stairs. I was late.

    Chapter 12
Today's my last day here, my last chance to spend with Tyler. Tonight at midnight, I leave to go meet my mom. She's made a plan and called six times already just to confirm it. More importantly, I have one more day with Tyler. I have to make it memorable. Suddenly as I was getting ready I heard a knock at my door. I ran down the stairs, as I looked out the window I could see Tyler standing outside.
I opened the door, "Hey Ty. I'm still getting ready, why don't you come up to my room."
I lead him up stairs to my room.
"You can just sit in the chair there, or on the bed. I'll only be a couple minutes."
    "Okay, cool."
I walked into the bathroom to continue getting ready. As I was putting my hair up into a messy bun I heard Tyler say from my room, "Hey, Liv? What's all this?"
"All what?" I asked from the bathroom.
    "The bags of stuff..."
I stuck my head out of the bathroom, "Oh those? Just some stuff I never unpacked...."
    "Oh okay."
I stepped back into the bathroom to continue getting ready. I put on a thin layer of lip gloss and one more layer of mascara. I walked out of the bathroom and slipped my feet into my jeweled sandals, and said, "Ready?"
    "Yeah totally!"
We walked down stairs and out the door, headed straight for the boardwalk.
We were walking down the board walk looking in all our favorite shops and botiques when we ran into the boys. All four of them, Kellan, Jason, Carter and...Ricky.
"Hey guys!" Carter called to us and waved us over.
We walked over and Tyler said, "Oh hey guys!"
    "What's up?" Asked Jason.
"Olivia and I are just walking around the boardwalk."
    Then Ricky said, "Hey, Olivia."
    I sarcastically shot, "What. Rick-y."
"Woa girl, no need for 'tude."
    "Can it."
Then Tyler interjected, "Hey...Olivia, why don't we go get some ice cream." Then he turned to the boys and said, "We'll see you guys later."
The boys nodded and we left.
I turned to Tyler, "Tyler, we could have stayed with them..."
He cut me off, "No Olivia, I saw how you and Ricky were saying "Hello" it wasn't a good idea."
"Yeah, I guess you're right. Sorry."
"Don't apologize. Ricky looks for trouble."
"I just feel bad, making you fix all our problems, and picking up all the pieces when he breaks me."
"It's not a problem, Olivia. I would do anything to protect you. Anything to make sure you were happy."
"I know, and thank you. I don't think I've said that enough."
    "You don't have to."
I smiled at him, and we walked down to the beach.

    Chapter 11- Tyler's POV
I looked over towards Olivia from where I was standing in the water. I looked over there, but she was gone. Then I noticed Ricky getting up from the chair she was sitting in. I took a quick scan of the beach and saw Olivia running off. I knew I shouldn't have left Olivia alone on the beach with Ricky here. How could I be so stupid! I ran out of the water and up the beach towards Ricky.
As soon as I got to him I shot angrily, "What did you say to her!?"
Ricky just looked at me, with a 'who me?' expression on his face.
"You know what I mean Ricky. Answer me!"
He calmly said, "I didn't say anything that should have upset her. She just sort of freaked."
"You had to have said something Ricky."
He just looked at me as if to say, maybe I did.
"What did you say to her Ricky?"
    He thought for a minute.
"Nothing. She told me not to call her mystery girl, so I called her Livvy..."
I cut him off, "You did WHAT!?"
    "I called her...Livvy."
    "Why!?"
"What's the big deal? Are you the only one that can call her that or something?"
Now I said in a pleading way, "God Ricky, why would you do something so stupid?"
"Hey, sorry man. I didn't think I was harming anyone."
I just shook my head, "You know what Ricky, nevermind."
Then I ran off in the direction I saw Olivia go. As I got closer I slowed, and listened for any sign of where she was. Suddenly I heard a soft, muffled sob come from around the corner of the building.
    I turned and whispered, "Olivia?"
I heard a sniffle. I turned the corner to see Olivia, sitting with her back agianst the wall of the builiding, knees pulled up to her chest and face burried in her hands.
I sat down next to her, "Olivia? What did Ricky say to you?"
    She just shook her head.
"Olivia, if you don't tell me what he said I can't help."
She sniffed, "He called me Livvy."
I paused, that couldn't be it, "I heard...But what else did he say?"
"He said something about me being 'given away'"
I stopped, my blood ran cold, how could he say that?
"Olivia, I'm so sorry. He has no idea what he's talking about, he..."
She cut me off, "It sounded like he knew EVERYTHING."
    "Wh-what do you mean?"
"He kept asking me stuff and saying stuff about the name Livvy. Like, 'is Tyler the only one who can call you that?' or 'did someone else call you that? Someone....important?' and it really got to me."
"Oh gosh Liv, I'm so sorry. I didn't tell him anything, promise."
    "It doesn't matter."
"Olivia, it DOES matter. It matters to me."

    Chapter 10
Two more days, I kept thinking, two more days. I couldn't just leave him here. I can't do what I planned on doing all along. Just vanishing, leaving in the middle of the night. I couldn't. I was planning on leaving to meet my foster mother, the one that cared for me for so long. She had made the plans months ago, I was to leave in two days. Now that I've met Tyler, I can't just leave. I have to tell him, but if I do then I won't be able to go. If anyone finds out where I'm going or why then I won't be able to go. I have to go, I need to see my mom. For the longest time she was the only thing I had that was remotely close to family, until Tyler. Man, I knew I shouldn't have talked to him that one day on the beach, the day we first met. My thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door, I got up to see who it was. Tyler.
He waved and yelled through the closed door, "Hey Liv!"
I opened the door, "Hey Tyler, what's up?"
"Wanna go down to the beach with me and the guys?"
I snuck a look behind him, there they were, Kellan, Jason, Carter and even Ricky.
I looked at Tyler worriedly and whispered, "Ricky's here? Do you still want me to come?"
He turned around breifly as if realizing Ricky for the first time, "Yeah, it'll be fine."
"Alright! Let me grab shoes and my phone and we can go."
I headed upstairs and put on my teal flip flops, my bug eye shades and grabbed my phone off the dresser. I ran back down the stairs and out the door hollering, "Bye Karen! I'm going to the beach!"
Right as I shut the door I heard a muffled voice yell, "Bye sweetie! Be back by eleven!"
Then all six of us headed off through the side street towards the boardwalk. The boys walked up ahead while Tyler and I lagged behind a little. We talked, but I was barely listening. I was debating wether or not I should tell him I was leaving. I knew I shouldn't, but I felt like I had to. Then I remembered that he knew-subconciously-that he would have to find me some day. I decided I wouldn't tell him and I would just have a good time with him and the guys on the beach.
The boys started up a game of volleyball on the beach with Daniel, who met us at the beach. While they played I tanned with Daniel's girlfriend, Tori. We talked while we were tanning and we watched the boys play for a while. Then Tori announced that she needed an ice mocha and ran off to the coffee shop on the boardwalk. All the boys decided to take a break and just hang out for a while. A couple of them ran into the water and splashed each other. But Ricky walked right over to me.
He sat on the edge of my beach chair, "Hey mystery girl."
"Ricky," I said a little annoyed, "You already know my name. Stop calling me mystery girl."
He sneered a little, "Whatever you say, Livvy."
I shot up, and just looked at him. How did he know? He couldn't know, could he?
I sat there speechless, then he said, "What? Only Tyler can call you that?"
I just gaped at him, astonished.
"Is there someone else who calls you that? Someone...Important?"
He was playing me, I could feel it. But that didn't keep the next comment from turning my blood to ice.
"What'd they do, to get you like this? Give you away?"
That's when my eyes filled with tears, hopefully he couldn't see it through my sunglasses.
    "Well girly, say something."
I couldn't, I knew if I did I would burst into tears. So instead I just got up and walked towards the bathrooms. I took no more than six steps before I started running. Praying that Ricky wouldn't follow.

    Chapter 9
The next couple of days Tyler and I spent time on the beach, walking around the boardwalk, and hanging out. I really got to know him. If I needed to I could tell you his favorite color, his favorite band, what he wants to be when he grows up, his biggest pet peeve, his lucky number, his celebrity crush, his future plans, what he wants to do when he graduates, who inspires him, where he wants to travel, and so much more. Sadly, he can't say the same about me. All he knows about me is my first name, my favorite color, my favorite place in the whole world, my favorite animal, my lucky number, and my favorite flavor of ice cream. There's not much more I have to tell him though, but soon I have to leave. There's nothing I can do, they're going to find me soon if I don't escape.
"Olivia," he said, interrupting my thoughts.
    "Yes?"
"Did you hear me?" He said sounding a little worried.
"Uhh, no sorry, spaced out for a second."
"I asked if you wanted to get some ice cream?"
"Ummm....why don't we walk around the boardwalk instead?"
    "Sure."
We set off, towards the small shops and botiques. As we walked he pointed something out to me.
"That necklace," he said pointing to the one around my neck, "You always wear it, don't you?"
I looked down at it subconciously.
    "Yeah." I said hesitantly.
"Does it have any special meaning to you?"
I looked at my feet, it did have special meaning, painfully special.
"My...My mother gave it to me. When I was little."
"I thought you never knew your mom..." he trailed off.
"I didn't. I meant one of my foster mothers. She took care of me more than anyone ever had. I consider her my real mother."
"That's sweet...Why'd she give you up?"
    "I wasn't hers to keep."
    "Why didn't she adopt you?"
"She didn't think she could handle me. There were so many other kids she had already adopted. I told her it was fine for her to let me go."
"Ohh.." He said, his voice trailing off.
Then, he took something out of his pocket, it was a charm. It was a charm that had three silver interlocking hearts on it. He held it out to me. I took it from him, and looked at him questioningly.
"I bought it for you." He explained, "I was waiting for the right time to give it to you."
I whispered, "Thank you, it's beautiful."
I unhooked my necklace and slipped the charm onto it. Then he took it from me and hooked back around my neck. The hearts when perfectly with the rinestoned "L" right next to it.
"Why is it an L?" Tyler asked.
"She used to call me Livvy instead of Olivia."
"She really meant a lot to you, didn't she?" He asked softly.
I just nodded, afraid that if I spoke I would start crying. He looked at me, saw the look in my eyes.
"I'm sorry," he said, "I shouldn't be so nosey. Lets get some ice cream."
I sniffed a little, and nodded, as he led me out of the little shop and back onto the boardwalk.

    Chapter 8
Tyler and I didn't finish our surfing lesson, however. Instead we sat on the edge of the boardwalk for a while. Then when we saw the boys leaving Louie's we jumped into the sand and ran into the water. We splashed each other and he tackled me a couple times. Then, as the sky turned orange, we got some ice cream and walked down the boardwalk. Once we finished our ice cream we watched as the sun sunk down into the waves.
    He turned to me, "Olivia?"
I gazed up into his gorgeous dark eyes, "Yes?" I whispered.
He didn't say anything for a long time, then he whispered, "I don't want to ever lose you."
I looked at him, afraid to tell him that someday, someday soon, he would lose me. Possibly forever. It was then that I realized I didn't have much time, I needed to tell him all the things he would need to know. Need to know to find me, if he even cared.
    "What's wrong?" He whispered, concerned.
I realized then that I was crying, I hadn't even felt it.
    "Olivia? Olivia, are you alright?"
I just nodded, afraid to speak.
He pulled me in close, as close to his heart as he could get, "Everything's going to be okay." He whispered.
That's when I really started to cry. I couldn't help myself, these tears had been welled up inside me for a long time. As I sobbed he didn't say anything, he just held me in close, gently rubbing my back. I just stood there and cried, I cried for a long time. I couldn't believe I was going to lose him, there was something I had to do. He was the one person in this wold that I could trust. Now, I had to trust him to do what it takes to find me, when he needs to. I couldn't just leave, not until I was certain he would find me again. I knew it wasn't up to me, but I could hope. Hope that he would know what to do, and where to look when I was gone. It was then, that I realized, I could trust him. Trust him enough to know what to do. To do what it takes. I felt connected to him, in a family way. As if, he was my brother.

    Chapter 7
I was laying on the beach, trying to tan my hideously pale body, when someone's shadow stepped in front of my sun. I looked up, a little peeved off, right into Tyler's face. He was staring down at me, surf board under his right arm and a huge grin on his face. I tilted my sun glasses down and said, "Tyler? You're blocking the sun."
He smiled and sat down next to me, "Sorry, hey you wanna know what we're doing today?"
I looked at him, guessing it had something to do with the surf board, I pointed to it, "I'm not riding that thing, if that's what you're thinking."
His smile broadened, "Of course you are."
He grabbed my wrist and pulled me up, and dragged me towards the waves.
"It's easy." He said, "All you have to do is stand on it, and don't fall off."
"It can't be that easy." I retorted.
He just looked at me, grinning.
"What do I do if I fall off?"
"Just get back up and try again."
I looked at him, as if to say, you can't seriously think I'm going to surf.
He laughed, "You're not leaving the beach today, until you get on that board."
Finally I gave in and decided I might as well try it. Who knows, I could be pretty good. I was wrong. I sucked. I fell off everytime, and everytime I hit the water I could hear Tyler laughing. He finally let me take a break and we went to Louie's for some pizza and milkshakes. As we sat there eating and talking, about nothing in particular, Tyler asked, "Olivia? What did you mean when you said I would need to find you some day?"
I looked at him, choking a little. He waited. Once I stopped chocking I asked, "What do you mean?"
"You said I would need the little things you tell me, to find you. When will I need to find you? I've already found you."
I thought for a minute, "You never know, Tyler. You may loose me someday and that might be the only way to find me again."
We sat in silence for a minute, questioning. Finally he said, "I don't plan on ever loosing you, Olivia."
I looked at him and sighed, "Those things are never planned. That's my point."
He looked at me, with a confused look on his face. I just shook my head, as if to say don't worry about it. A couple minutes later Jason, Kellan and Carter came in for some pizza. When they saw us there they sat down at our booth, squishing us into the corners.
"So Ty, you and mystery girl, huh?" Jason said jokingly.
    "Lay off man." Tyler said.
"So mystery girl, when do we get let in on the big secret?" Kellan said slyly.
    I looked at him, confused.
"What's your name? When do we get to know?"
I looked at them, "Tyler didn't tell you?" I said glancing at Tyler.
"Nope." Said Jason, "But I'd like to know."
    I looked at Tyler questioningly.
He just responded with, "I told you I could keep a secret."
"Yeah, but I thought you'd tell them...maybe not Ricky, but at least the others. Why didn't you tell them?"
"Yeah, why didn't you tell us?" Asked Jason.
Tyler sighed, "I didn't tell you because the only way I got to know her name was after I promised I wouldn't tell."
Everyone looked at me, then at Tyler, then back at me. I sat there uncomfortably.
Kellan said, "So girly, why don't you want us to know who you are?"
I looked at him, the said, "I don't care if you know my name, my name is Olivia."
    Jason said, "Ooohh Oliviaaa."
I looked at him, shooting him a threatening look, "You know my name, not my story."
Jason replied, "That's okay, I like a girl that's feisty."
I just looked at him, with a sort of daring look on my face and a smirk.
Tyler, seeing the look on my face and not knowing what was going to happen said, "Jason, back down." Then he looked at me and said, "Sorry to break up the party guys, but we've gotta get going. We have a surfing lesson to finish." He said this with a smile dancing at the corners of his mouth.
We pushed past the other boys and walked down to the beach.

    Chapter 6
The next day I was walking on logs along the beach when I saw Tyler up ahead. He looked over in my direction and smiled. I waved to him, and then jumped off the log and ran across the beach in his direction. When I got to him he just smiled at me for a minute. Then said, "Hey, wanna go get some ice cream or something?"
I looked up at him and said, "I would rather just walk along the beach with you."
He smiled at me, then took my arm and led me down the beach. We walked in silence for a while, then he said, "What's on your mind?"
I looked up at him, confused. He just shrugged and said, "I was just wondering."
I sighed, the said, "I have a lot on my mind, Dean and Karen want me to spend more time with my younger siblings but the little gremlins hate me, but mostly, I want to know what you're thinking right now."
He looked at me, his eyes met mine and he really concentrated on me. Finally, after a long silence he said, "I want to know more about you, it doesn't have to be your story, or deep personal thoughts, just basics. I find you interesting, and...familiar in some way. I'd like to know why."
I looked at him, then said, "It will take a lot more than pizza and a walk on the beach to get me to talk."
He stared at me. Questioning me. I just shrugged, as if to say, did you really think it would be that easy? Then I gave him a sly smile, and ran off into the water. I looked over my shoulder and shouted, "Come on! If you want to get to know me you have to spend some time with me!"
After a pause, he ran in after me and tackled me in the water. We laughed and splashed each other until the sun went down. We stood there, with the water up to our knees and watched the sun go down. Then we turned, and wadded out towards the sand and our shoes. Once we got back to the boardwalk he turned to me with a slight smile dancing on the corners of his mouth and said, "Isn't that worth a little fact about you?"
I looked at him. I waved him closer to me. He bent down far enough so that I could whisper in his ear and said, "My....favorite....color is purple." Then I pulled back really quick, giggling.
For a second he just looked at me, as if he wasn't quite sure what I had said. I looked at him, a playful smile dancing on my face. Then he just looked at me, "What?"
"You said you wanted to know the basics about me, so I told you my favorite color."
    "That's not what I meant..."
I cut him off, "You'll need to know that someday, you'll use all the little things I tell you to find me some day."
He looked at me. Confused. I gave him a quick smile then turned, and started walking down the boardwalk. Leaving him there, incredulous.

    Chapter 5- Tyler's POV
She turned on her heel and walked out the door saying, "Bye, Tyler." As if there was nothing on her mind. I stood there, stumped. What had I just found out about my former mystery girl? Actually, she's still a mystery to me. I may have figured out her name, but I still have no idea who she is, or why I want to get to know her so badly. She was, well beautiful, in a mysterious way. There was something familiar about her, but I couldn't quite place it. Her long, thick, black hair flowed down her back, and her dark eyes twinkled when she laughed. She was...amazing. I needed to figure out more about this girl. Why she's so gaurded. Why she suddenly decided to trust me. My thoughts were interrupted by someone banging on the pizza shop window.
"Hey! Hey Ty! Come on out!" Ricky yelled, his voice muffled from the glass.
I sighed, wondering when I would see Olivia next, soon hopefully. Then I put some cash on the table and walked out the door.
"Hey bro, what's up?" Kellan said.
"Whatcha doin' at Louie's all alone?" Asked Carter.
Ricky said, "I bet he wasn't alone. He was probably with that freaky girl from the beach."
My head snapped to him, my eyes filled with heat. I glared at Ricky daring him, just daring him to say more.
"Woahh, no need to hit me or anything, I was just kidding man." Ricky said, stepping back a little.
Angrily I shot, "What you said about her yesterday really hurt her, Ricky. You can't take that back."
"Whatever man, it's not like it matters."
"It DOES matter Ricky. It matters to me, and to her. God Ricky, I can't believe you're so insensitive." I said as I shook my head in disbelief.
Ricky and the others just stood there for a minute, not knowing what to say. Then, I lightened up a little and said, "You know what, forget it, I can tell now that it doesn't mean anything to you. I'm going home."
Kellan said, "I thought we were goin' play some ball?"
"Forget it." I replied, as I turned my back on them.
Then as I was walking away I heard Jason say to Ricky, "Go apologize man, we need Ty to play."
Ricky said, "Why should I? It's not like he's going to ever learn that girl's name, or talk to her again."
That's when I whipped around and stared at him with firey eyes. I could tell by the way he looked at me Ricky knew he had said the wrong thing. I just looked at him, for a long time. Teasing him, tempting him, testing him, to see what he would say next, but he didn't say anything.
Finally I said, "Ricky, you were right about some things, I was in there with the girl from the beach, but she's definately not a freak." With that I turned and walked down the boardwalk towards my house.

    Chapter 4
"Olivia." He whispered, as if my name held the key to the world.
I looked up at him, wondering what was going through his mind. What is he thinking? Does he like my name? Does he hate it? It's nothing special, it's just an ordinary name. Does it bring back some sort of memory for him? I gave him a questioning look as he looked out into the water, still holding my arm. Finally, he came out of his trance and looked at me.
"Is something wrong?" I asked, hoping he wouldn't say anything unusual about my name.
"Everything's fine, why do you ask?"
I gave him a questioning look, "You just fell into like a trance, after I told you my name..." I trailed off.
He looked down at me, as if trying to remember it, "Oh, that? That......that was nothing." He said, not sounding quite sure of it himself.
I just looked at him, trying to figure him out. What was he thinking about? What kinds of things could possibly be linked to my name. As I looked at him, he probably realized that he needed to tell me more.
"It's just that, when I was a baby I remember hearing my mother say your name. All the time. As if...as if you were there too."
I blinked at him, wondering what he was thinking. He must be mistaken. I couldn't be in anyway linked to him, even though we did have the same dark eyes, and thick black hair, but that was nothing...right?
"I must be crazy." He mumbled to himself.
He looked down at me. Into my eyes, as if he could see right through me. It was getting late, I shivered a little. He put his arm around me, and we walked away from the water and into a near by pizza shop. We sat down in a booth, and he ordered a medium cheese pizza and two diet cokes. As we sat there waiting for our food he asked, "Why didn't you tell me your name the day we met?"
I choked on my soda, and looked up at him. He stared back at me, his intense eyes locked on mine. We sat in silence for a while, then finally I said, "I don't trust people."
He looked at me, as if I was crazy, or joking. When he realized I wasn't he asked, "Why, if you don't mind me asking..."
I looked at him for a minute then replied, "My mom put me up for adoption when I was a baby, but she gave me to my father. When he decided he wanted to get back together with her, she told him he had to give me up, or give her up. It was one or the other. He chose her, and gave me to another family."
    "That's terrible." Whispered Tyler.
"He didn't even care where I ended up." I said, sourly.
"If you could meet them, what would you say?" Asked Tyler softly.
I thought a minute, then I said, "I would ask my mother why she didn't love me, and I would ask my dad how he could love a woman who only had a heart big enough to love one of her kids."
Tyler looked at me questioninly, "What?"
"I had a twin, she kept him, but gave me away. Nobody knows why."
We both sat there in silence, then the pizza came. I wondered if I had said to much, Tyler had said I could trust him. Didn't he? Tyler and I ate in silence for a while, then I said, "I better be getting home. Dean and Karen are probably getting worried."
"Who are Dean and Karen?" Tyler asked.
    "My adoptive parents."
"You call them by their first names even though they were like parents to you?"
"They weren't really like parents to me. I was in foster homes until I was nine."
    "Oh..." His voice trailed off.
"Bye, Tyler." I said as I left the pizza shop.

    Chapter 3
I stayed away from the boardwalk for a couple days. Not wanting to see Ricky or Tyler, or any of them. I just wanted to forget them, make them forget me. I was afraid of what they would say if they saw me again. Would they think what Ricky had said was true? I bet Tyler doesn't even care, I thought.
I went back to the beach, missing the summer air. As I walked along the water, letting it splash against my ankles ever so lightly, I thought about what Ricky had said. Not being able to get it out of my head, ever since I left Tyler standing there on the boardwalk that day. I angrily kicked at the sand, wishing Ricky wasn't right about me. Wishing I had never met Tyler, but most of all, wishing that Tyler had never talked to me. As I angrily kicked at the sand splashing wet sand on my white skirt I heard a familiar soft voice say, "Hey, watch it. You're getting dirt all over that pretty skirt." I looked up, right into Tyler's face. He was just inches away from me. Looking down with a shy but knowing smile on his face. As I turned on my heel to leave he grabbed my arm, "Wait." I stopped not having a choice, he was strong.
"Look at me." He said, not unkindly.
I turned to face him, his beautiful eyes glistening down, looking into mine.
    "I never got your name."
I just looked at him, dumbfounded. I couldn't believe that he was still trying to get my name. Why on earth would he want to talk to me? A girl that had run from him, crying.
"Please? Just tell me your name, I need to know." He whispered. His voice was so quiet, I almost didn't hear him. I looked down at the sand, then back up into his face.
"Why do you care so much?" I whispered back.
He looked at me, for a long time, then replied, "I care because...because I want to know you. I want to know why you're so gaurded, why you don't trust me. Most of all, I want to know what I can do to help."
I looked at him, wondering what he knew about me. How he knew so much about me without even having a real conversation with me. I was afraid, afraid if I did tell him my name, he would want to know more. He would figure out who I really am.
"Don't be scared." He whispered. "I won't tell anyone, I can keep a secret. Trust me."
He looked at me, pleadingly, wishing I would just give in.
My lip quivered a little, then I looked down at my sandals in my hand. He was still holding my arm. With his other hand he lifted my chin up until my eyes met his.
"You want to tell me, don't you?" He said softly.
That's when a single tear ran down my cheek.
"Don't cry. I won't harm you. Whatever it is that's tearing you apart, I'll stop it. I'll do whatever it takes." He said as me pulled me in close.
After a long pause, he let go and looked at me.
"Please, please, tell me who you are. I don't want your story, I just want your name."
I looked up at him and said, "My name's....."
As I trailed off he looked at me, I looked away wiping a tear from my face.
"It's okay, you can trust me." He said softly.
"Olivia." I whispered. "My name's Olivia."

    Chapter 1
I pushed my toes into the cool sand, while the soft breeze blew my hair back. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath of salty cool summer air. For a minute I was all alone, in my own world with no one there to remind me of what I had run away from. For once in my life, I was happy. Nobody could tell me I was wrong, nothing could hurt me. I was finally free.
"What's a pretty thing like you doing here all alone?" Said a male voice.
I turned around, coming out of my world, and into the cold reality.
"You really shouldn't be around without someone keeping an eye on you. Someone might try and nab you." Said the voice. I looked up into the boy's face. His dark eyes were covered by his thick black hair, his tan muscular body glistened in the sun light.
As the boy sat next to me he asked, "What's your name?"
I just looked at him, expressionlessly.
The boy stared back at me for a minute. Then When I didn't respond he said, "My name's Tyler."
I stared at him for a long time, trying to figure out what he wanted. Why he would ever talk to me. Then, I said, "Hi."
He gave me a sly smile and said, "What's up?"
When I didn't respond he just said, "Are you going to tell me your name?"
I just looked at him, then turned back to the ocean, watching the light glitter over it like crystals.
"Fine, let's play a game." Tyler said. "You tell me your name, and I'll leave you alone. If you don't tell me your name I'll just sit here and bug you until you give in."
I sat there, thoughts about what this boy wanted running through my head. As I sat there watching the waves splash onto the shore, I saw the boy staring at me. Waiting. I didn't respond. Then someone called out, "Hey! Hey Ty! Come on! We're gunna be late! Who's that you're with?" Tyler looked over towards the voice, then turned to me, "You win this time, but I'm sure I'll see you around...Mystery girl." Then he got up, and ran off to meet the other boys. As he turned his back to me I watched as he ran off towards the town. I watched until he was out of sight.
