Forever Young
Chapter Nineteen
After finishing out outfits, we ran through
the songs.
“The Real Slim Shady,” Sophie said. “Weasel,
go.”
“Y’all act like you’ve never seen a white
person before. Jaws all on the floor like Pam and Tommy just
burst in the door,” I started rapping.
Once I got to the chorus, I took a break and the girls took
it.
“Cos I’m Slim Shady, yes I’m the real
Shady,” they started and I chuckled.
That song as fine, and we moved to The Story of Us. Now,
we’ve done this song time and time again, so I really
don’t understand why we have to rehearse it.
“Now I'm standing alone in a crowded room and
we're not speaking, and I'm dying to know is it killing
you like it's killing me, yeah? I don't know what to
say, since the twist of fate when it all broke down, and the
story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now,” we all
sang.
“Next chapter,” I said and the girls smiled.
“How'd we end up this way? See me nervously pulling
at my clothes and trying to look busy, and you're doing
your best to avoid me,” Avery sang.
“I'm starting to think one day I'll tell the
story of us. How I was losing my mind when I saw you here, but
you held your pride like you should've held me,” Kyra
sang.
“Oh, I'm scared to see the ending. Why are we
pretending this is nothing? I'd tell you I miss you but I
don't know how. I've never heard silence quite this
loud,” I sang and we went to the chorus again.
Lastly, The Fighter. Like The Story of Us, we know this song so
well.
“Just wakin’ up in the morning and to be well,
quite honest with you I ain’t really sleep well,” I
rapped.
When that verse was over, Sophie came in.
“Give em hell, turn their heads. Gonna live life til
we're dead. Give me scars, give me pain. Then they'll
say of me, say of me, say of me,” she sang.
“There goes the fighter, there goes the fighter. Here
comes the fighter,” we all sang. “That's what
they'll say of me, say of me, say of me. This one’s a
fighter.”
Then, we finished off that song. We went through them a few
more times, and by that point it was around six. Now, three
hours really isn’t enough time to get ready, but we
pulled it off. The shirt I was wearing showed off rather much
of my stomach, and my shorts were a bit short…
“Revealing, eh?” Sophie asked and I shrugged.
“I don’t care,” I said. “It gets hot on
stage.”
“True,” she said, nodding.
We left for the Tampa show at eight thirty and arrived at eight
forty five. The guys were already there. I didn’t really
know where they were, but Avery did. She nudged me and I turned
to her.
“What?” I asked as someone played with my hair a
bit.
“Niall,” she said quietly.
“What about him?” I asked.
“Look up and to your left,” she said and I did just
that.
There stood Niall, his hair being done by Lou Teasdale. His
eyes were… wider than normal, his mouth the slightest
bit ajar, and he had his left hand around the back of his neck,
like he was scratching it… but he wasn’t.
“Mission accomplished,” Avery said quietly and I
laughed, putting my focus back on the girls.
“No crap,” Kyra chuckled, “look
down.”
“Sophie! Kyra just admitted to looking at my
boyfriend’s… you know… area,” I
whined and Sophie laughed.
“Niall!” she shouted. “Calm
yourself!”
“Tell that to your friend,” he hollered back, right
as Lou finished his hair.
“Girls! You’re on stage in five minutes,” the
stage manager shouted.
“Alright,” I said to the girls, ignoring my
boyfriend. “You guys ready for this?”
“Yeah,” Avery said, smiling.
“Alright, let’s do this,” I said and we ran
onto the stage.
