The Little Things
~Chapter 9~
I pick at my food quietly, sitting on the couch, watching the guys goof off. Well, except for Liam. He's too busy oogling at Danielle to notice the rest of the world. Then it hits me, I know what I have to do to get Liam really jealous! "Harry, wanna take a walk, I really need to talk to you," I use my most flirty face, knowing Harry really can't resist a little batting of the eyelashes. "Sure, Valarie, of course," He stands up quickly, leaving the guys and following me outside. "So, what's up?" He asks when we're outside. "I've missed you," I say, staring at the ground, walking slowly. "Yeah, well, try being in the same room with Liam the past five months," He rolls his eyes. "What do you mean?" I try not to sound too eager. "The only thing he can talk about it you, he misses you," Harry mumbles, looking the other way. "Really?" I ask. "Well he can find a new best friend anyway," I shrug. Harry grabs my arm to stop me, "No, Valarie, he can't." He lets go and we start to walk again, I keep silent. "Besides, that's not what I meant anyway," Harry laughs. I stare at his face in amazement before we decide to head back.
When we get back, I keep to myself, but all the time, I'm watching Liam and Danielle. I watch the way he stares at her, the way she laughs when he tickles her. I watch as her eyes light up when she looks at him.. And I wonder if that's how we were those two days when we were a possible couple. No, I shake my head, thinking to myself. We were different. How? Liam's eyes werern't dead when he looked at me. He was alive. We were alive. I ask my mom to leave early, I can't stand watching Liam pretend to love someone just to hurt me anymore.

Two days later, a picture of Harry and I is on the cover of a magazine, just as I had planned. He calls me and we laugh it off, but I secretly hope Liam sees it. What Harry said last night, though, it makes me wonder if this is all worth it. Then I remember the way he stared at Danielle, my heart crumbles and I know my answer. I walk into the kitchen right as I hear my name on the Tv. I walk over and turn the volume up. "What the hell," This wasn't scheduled. "So, after seeing these pictures," Two photos of me in a club a few weeks ago, dancing with guys flash on the screen, "What do you think?" The reporter comes back on. I start to breathe heavy. "Is Valarie the idol everyone thinks she is? Or is she just another trashy teenage girl blown way out of proportion?" I recognize the woman as someone I used to watch. Her show's all about trashing celebrities, I'd always found it funny. The pounding in my head reminds me of how cruel she is, and how it's really not funny at all. I sink to the ground and start to rock, crying. Mr.Manson will be mad, it's too early for some party girl scandal to come out. Mom will be mad that I'm ruining my reputation. I start to sob and I don't stop.

It's late, but I haven't moved from my spot on the floor. Mom hasn't come home. Suddenly the door opens, and I'm too nervous about the trouble I'll get in to be scared. "Val?" It's too dark to know who it is, but the familiar nickname makes me look up anyway. He sits down next to me and pulls me in his arms, cooing soothing words in my ear.
"Did you hear what she said?" I ask, my voice breaking. I feel him nod against the top of my head. "I didn't do anything wrong," I shake my head. "I'm not a bad girl," I whisper, my lips quivering.
"I know, Val, I know," He whispers, kissing the top of my head.
