It's weird for me to talk to other Harry Potter fans when they actually realise my situation:
1. I grew up in Scotland where Hogwarts is hidden, and while it's not like we have huge castles like that dotted all over the place, I see scenery like that every day. Plus, Rowena Ravenclaw came from Scottish moors.
2. I'm beyond used to all the accents so they didn't really register. It just felt like home.
3. I go to a private boarding school. Like Hogwarts. With uniform and a dining hall and houses and dormitories and everything. (Although it's not a castle and it's a day and boarding school, so I'm just a day pupil -- chil, kids.)
4. I have teachers like Minerva McGonnegal. Literally. They talk like her and act like her and get you in trouble for everything like her *cry cry* And one teacher who has Snape's exact accent, haha.
5. I use the world 'bl00dy' like Ron. He is my kindred spirit.
6. I've been to the cafe where JK wrote most of the books for lunch.
And it's just so weird for me to realise that not everyone grew up feeling that the wizarding world was as close to them as I did. And when I hear American fans immitating British accents or imagining going to a British boarding school, I wonder if I too would have found that extra magic in the books if they were further away. But I doubt it. I think we all find the same special thing in those pages. ♥
Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.
