Still Beating
Chapter 2
I climbed the steps onto the bus I could already hear the laughs and voices of my friends. I walked to the back of the bus and plopped down into my usual spot.
“What happened to you?” One asked giving me an odd look.
“Nothing,” I responded pushing my hood over my head knowing I probably looked like a girl who hadn’t slept in days and caked on makeup she didn’t know how to apply.
I was still sore from my mom and knew I had bruises all over so I tried carefully not to show any.
“Don’t worry,” My best friend, Sam, the only one who doesn’t just like me because I’m branded a ‘popular’ smiled, “You look fine!”
“Thanks,” I responded and continued with the usual gossip of the bus ride to school.
When we got to the school the bus hit the brakes suddenly and the girl in front of us dropped her drink and it splattered all over Mia, the meanest one of my so called friends. She glared at the girl then stood up taking the remains of the drink and pouring it on her head. The other girls beside me all joined smearing it into her hair everyone helped, beside me and Sam. They all got off the bus but I knelt down beside the weeping girl and smiled.
“Sorry about them let me help you,” I began to clean up the mess but she stopped me.
“Your all the same, you don’t care you just want to humiliate me, go away leave me alone,” She continued to glare at me.
I stopped helping, stood up and practically ran off the bus I’d never been so humiliated by anyone in my school ever. I entered the school Sam waited for me.
“Come on lets go fix your makeup in the bathroom,” She tugged on my arm, she was the only person I had trusted, and told about my mom.
She dragged me into the bathroom and helped me fix myself up, “That girl, she hates us,” I exclaimed!
“Well it’s not like she’s going to love people who smear coke in her hair,” Sam laughed and wet a paper towel.
“No really Sam,” I stopped her from wiping away the last of the makeup with the towel.
“Sorry, it’s just a lot of people hate us it’s just the way it works,” She began to wipe the makeup.
“I know it’s just I tried to help her but...” I stopped.
“But she still would never forgive you or your friends!” Sam finished with reapplying the makeup, “Done!”
“Thanks,” I smiled and we left the bathroom.
That night there was going to be a party and like always I was expected to attend so I took the bus like usual three towns over to my job, if anyone found out I had to work they’d hate me forever so I had to go to a different town! I worked at a small shop and got my pay check today so happily after work I headed to an out of town hammy-down store and shopped for ‘new’ party clothes! I didn’t want to go home; otherwise I’d have to face my mom so I just sat on benches and walked the sidewalks until it was time to get to the party. I took the bus into town then went to a public bathroom changed and did my makeup with the cheap stuff I had, then I headed to Mia’s house! You could hear the music blaring from three streets away, I walked inside to see red cups floating around and a blur of people I remember ‘thinking this is my type of scene’ then everything after was a black
blur!
