Chapter 28: Val's P.O.V
“Bye, Dan.” I smiled as I pecked his lips.
“Bye, Val.” He kissed me again and I laughed before shutting the door and walking back over to the couch.
“He seems nice.” Sharon walked in as I sat back down.
I smiled. “Yeah, he’s been great.”
“Why don’t you and Ben go do something? Get out of the house?”
“Yeah, I’ll go see what he’s up to!” I said as I hopped off the couch and headed upstairs to Ben’s room.
I knocked on the door lightly, but he didn’t answer. I knocked a little harder, and still no answer. So I just decided to walk in. Ben was sprawled across his bed, sleeping soundly. I smiled at how innocent he looked before running and jumping onto his bed, landing right in front of him.
He groaned loudly and turned the other way. I pursed my lips before shaking his arm and yelling, “BEEEEN!” in his ear. He threw a pillow at me and I laughed.
“What do you want?” He muffled into his blankets.
“Your mom suggested that we go do something, so get up!” I drummed on his arm.
“No, thank you.” He said as he shuffled himself on the bed.
“Come on, don’t you want to hang out with your best friend?” I urged and he didn’t respond. “Fine,” I said, “if that’s how it’s going to be.” And then I started screaming at the top of my lungs.
Ben shot up and covered my mouth with his hand. “Geez, Aly! The whole neighborhood is going to think I’m murdering you!” He said as he released my head. I took in an exaggerated deep breath and pretended I was going to scream again. He threw his hand over my mouth again. “Alright, alright! I’m up!” He said and I smiled triumphantly as I removed his hand.
“Good,” I said as I got up and walked to the doorway. “I hope you’re hungry.” I called from out of the door. “Oh,” I poked my head back in. “And change your shirt, it’s all wrinkled.” I winked at him as he threw a pillow at me. I dodged it and started down the stairs, calling “Missed me!” back up to Ben before laughing.

Christmas was fast approaching and things seemed to be going alright with us. My mom was still sad over the divorce, but she tried not to show it around me. I still knew she was though, because some nights, when she thought I was asleep, I could hear her sobbing in her room and it killed me. I knew there was nothing I could do about it though, except for try to be as happy and well-behaved as possible.
Christmas break started today; Christmas Eve, and I was going to a party with the drama club and some other kids from school. Danny left on Friday to go visit family out of state for the holidays, and I really hated that he always left; I wanted to celebrate with my boyfriend and with everything else that was going on, I really needed him. Aside from that, our relationship has been great.
I slipped on a simple red dress with some patterned tights, and paired the outfit with some black heels, and of course, my ‘V’ necklace. I quickly twirled a piece of hair back and used my curling wand on the ends. I applied some makeup before grabbing the keys to my mom’s car, kissing her quickly, and rushing out the door.
Ben had offered me a ride, but I was Skyping with Danny and told him I would come later. I really missed Danny even though I had seen him three days ago. I was upset that I wouldn’t be able to spend Christmas with him, or kiss him at midnight on New Year’s. Even when I finally have a boyfriend, I still won’t get my New Year’s kiss.
I wrapped hard on Roxy’s door so I would be heard over the music, and she opened it with a wide smile. “Hey, baby! Someone looks hot!” She hugged me and let me inside. “I might even be into you.” She added and I laughed as I hung up my coat. “Sorry, Rox, I’m taken.” I winked at her and she laughed as we walked into the party. It looked like everyone else was already here and I went over say hi to everyone.
After I made my rounds, I walked into the kitchen to find Ben and Brett talking intensely. Ben was facing the other way and when Brett saw me he immediately stopped talking and cleared his throat. Ben stopped and spun around. “Aly,” he said.
Brett whispered something in his ear and laughed, as Ben punched him in the gut. I looked at them questioningly before asking, “Sorry, am I interrupting something? I was just coming to get a drink.”
“Nope, it’s fine. How are you Val?” Brett asked as he walked over and gave me a hug. Most of the drama club new about my parent’s divorce and they were really supportive about it. They always made sure I was okay, and I was because I knew that I had such great friends that cared so much about me.
“I’m okay.” I reassured him.
“Well, you look good.” He winked at me before laughing and I rolled my eyes, laughing with him.
“You’re such an idiot,” I started and an offended look overtook his features, “but I love you!” I finished and this time he rolled his eyes.
“God, you’re annoying.” He retorted and I stuck my tongue out at him. “Come on, let’s go back to the party.” He put his hand on my back and led me to the doorway, as he nodded at Ben to come too.
“Oh wait, Val can you get my cup right there on the counter?”
“Sure, lazy.” I smiled as I grabbed it and walked back over to them.
“Thanks, lovely. Oh, wait.” He smirked.
“No, I’m not getting anything else for you Brett.”
“No it’s not that,” He said and Ben and I looked at each other confused before looking back to Brett.
“Hey everyone!” Brett shouted as Roxy lowered the music. “Look where Ben and Val are standing!”He smirked. Ben and I looked back at each other, and then looked up simultaneously.
Oh God…
