I walked out of school at 3.30, with Reece’s’ arm around me.
I looked around for Finn, and instantly spotted him waiting for me outside the gates.
“I’ll talk to you later, alright?” I say, giving him a hug.
“Why don’t you come to the beach with us?” Reece asked, and then he notices Finn.
“Oh you’re walking with this”-
-“Reece” I moan.
“Oh yeah, I forgot, he’s your ‘friend’. I’ll call you later, Dani”.
I turn around to Finn, who has his head bent kicking the stones around him.
“I’m sorry” I say, giving him a sad smile.
“It’s ok” He smiles, “He really doesn’t like me, does he?”
“Well...”
I hear him sigh, “So you’re going to prom with Reece?”
“Well, it’s in a month, so if everything runs smoothly ‘til then, well yeah I suppose”.
Finn says nothing, and stuffs his hands in his pockets.
“Who are you going with?” I ask him, not able to bare the silence.
“Oh, um, I’m not sure” He mumbles, “I might just stay at home, I mean, there’s no point in me going without a girl.”
“There are loads of girls who’d go with you!”
“Really?”
I stop at my gate, “Of course! Hey, do you want to come in?”
He looks around, “No, maybe I shouldn’t…Reece wouldn’t approve”.
“Reece can’t control who I hang around with” I smile, “Come on, come in for a while, Abby would love to see you”.
He follows me in, and of course, I’m right, Abby runs up and hugs him.
“Finn!” She squeals.
Finn laughs, I laugh, Abby laughs and when Mum comes out to the hallway, she laughs.
Everyone is laughing.
It all seemed so perfect.
