This particular format is one by br0kenwings. I took its code and simply changed the background image and color fade. (I use http://patorjk.com/text-color-fader/ for fades, and tumblr has really gorgeous vertical nature photographs.)
If you need a more detailed explanation let me know, but I'm assuming you already know how to get a quote's code and edit it. (:

I do know how to get a quote's code but I am not sure how to edit it. I have never tried to change backgrounds of quotes and stuff like that.

In this particular code, where it says background image, you'd remove the URL in parentheses and replace it with the URL of the image you want to use. To use your own color fade, you'd go to the website I mentioned above, type what you want it to say, and then copy the code they give you, remove the previously used fade's code, and replace it with yours by pasting it there.
I hope that didn't sound too confusing -- I'm awful at explaining processes. But, as with any new thing you attempt, it's a matter of trial and error. I think you'll eventually get it. You seem smart.

I have a quick question, how do you format your quotes? Like the text and the picture in the background?
