If you put,
"I cut" or "I am gonna kill myself/I tried suic/de on this day two years ago"
Blah or "I suffer from depression" Then I believe you are craving attention.
Go get help, don't post it on the internet to people you don't know.

I understand where you're coming from . But maybe they post it because the internet is where people truly care about them . I say I suffer from depression or i used to cut , because I'm letting people know that this is the REAL me . But i TOTALLY understand where you're coming from . Because a lot of people will say it for the attention or to poke fun . But you know i don't think you should've posted this , because a lot of people would take offense to this .

If you say you use to cut then that is good. That is like showing you can get through it. I think there are of course people who do it to know there are others out there and want to show who they really are. But you get that there are quite a bit of people who do it for people to feel sorry. And with all do respect, this is witty and I post how I feel.

Did you ever think that maybe, just maybe, this is the one place some of those people feel safe enough to actually admit that to themselves and to other people?
thumbs up 0 thumbs down reply

*Yours Truly* · 1 decade ago
Of course I have. And those people do it for themselves but I think there are a lot of people who do it for attention too. If you would've read the comments below you would've seen that's what we were discussing. There are both types of people on here.

Why would I read all the comments below..? And anyway, I know that a lot of people are doing it for attention, that's why I said "Maybe." :)

*Yours Truly* · 1 decade ago
Ya. And I dunno o.o maybe it is just me that does that. Whenever I see quotes on a comment I am like "I want to read those xD"

I completely agree with this quote. If you want to "write down" or "express" your pain in a creative way, get a journal or a canvas and start writing/painting. Show it to your closest friends/family, not 300,000 strangers on a website looking for funny and inspirational quotes. Talk about it with a professional, instead of a bunch of 13-year-olds who don't know what they're talking about.
This is going to sound extremely selfish, but I come to this website everyday to read interesting and thought-provoking quotes, not sentences about triggering/depressing things.

See? I mean, if you have lived through it then that is different, but if you are putting out there "I am gonna end it" or something it is just ridiculous.

I see your point but, personally, as a person who has experience with this, I think that, by writing about what you're going through, you can often better understand yourself, what you're going through, and it can often be a lot of help. Also, when you see that someone is going through the same thing as you, suffering much like you are, it's helpful to not know you're alone. I mean, some people might post things like, "I cut" for attention, but some of them might be posting it because they need to know that there are other people out there, people in the world who are there for them and who understand.

I think this is the biggest conflict of witty. Half of the people want to see funny, inspirational and heartfelt quotes, and the other half is deeply troubled and looking for a way to get it all out. Based on the setup of witty, with the top quotes pages, we are somewhat forced to see both. Sure, we can follow who we want and block users, but that might stop is from seeing good, creative quotes. We are two completely different outlooks on the world expected to live within each others expectations, and that causes so much argument here.

Delicate* · 1 decade ago
I don't think that the differences is what causes the arguments. I mean, I see users who post the funny quotes, faving some of my "darker" quotes. I think that the conflict is the inability to accept that there are people on the website who have different styles of quotes, or different opinions, etc, etc, etc, but I totally understand. I think that the way that Witty's designed can be a downfall of the site, because you're forced to see both, but, at the same time, it only takes a few seconds to scroll down past (unless your computer freezes or you have to switch pages, or you have a slow connection). But still, I think we can all live in harmony here.

It is true. But I truly honestly think that there are a lot of people out there that do it for attention. I see where you come from though.

I had a guy friend once who thought the same way, and I totally understand that, especially because I've had friends/known people who have done it because it's "cool" or because they wanted attention.

*Yours Truly* · 1 decade ago
Ya. I have friends who have cut previously. And they tell me how it was, and how it isn't something you advertise. I am sure some people want that reassurance they aren't alone, and that's fine. But I feel like people who make quotes that say "I am ending it. For real this time" Definitely want the attention, because you know that will get a million comments being like "Don't do it."

Delicate* · 1 decade ago
See that I can understand, but, at the same time I feel like, if I were truly going to end my life, I would want the people who I care about, my friends on here, to know, and making a quote would be the easiest way. At the same time though, I'd feel like if I were to do that, and then attempt to take my life and fail, it just wouldn't be right.

*Yours Truly* · 1 decade ago
Ya, that too. I guess there are different sides of it. Some people I will believe, but some I don't. I guess it is just the matter of who is really actually suffering, and people who do it for attention.

For the most part, I agree, except for the 'on this day two years ago' one, cause I see those as a celebration of survival/a message of hope.
thumbs up 1 thumbs down reply

*Yours Truly* · 1 decade ago
Ya true, but sometimes people will say that then be like "I wish I had succeeded" and stuff.

kelly* · 1 decade ago
maybe they don't want people bullying them or something
thumbs up 0 thumbs down reply

*Yours Truly* · 1 decade ago
Eh I doubt it. No one really does that on here. There are SOME people. But I have known people who have cut in the past and they told me you don't advertise that. It is personal so. Ya I dunno, I may seem like a b/tch for saying it but it just seems like a cry for attention.
thumbs up 1 thumbs down reply

kelly* · 1 decade ago
yeah, most of the time they want attention to act 'brave'. it's sort of like bragging.
thumbs up 2 thumbs down reply

*Yours Truly* · 1 decade ago
Ya. I just think it is for attention. I don't think that about cutting or suicide in general of course! But when you advertise it and tell random people online I think it is.
