a girl walks along
a desolate river bend
the river, once glorious

is now dead
only but a drop remains
a myth of its splendor
the only evidence left the girls traced her steps
back around and around the bank
looking into the dirt
and letting her lonesomness
ask the river some questions

"do you feel empty too?"
the river responded
"yes, the better part of me has died
and now i count the days until the end."
the girl held back tears
in her droopy eyes
the river was solemn in saying
"a river runs within you."
