Can’t Control Love
Chapter Three/Melody’s POV:


Junior year was coming to the end, summer was just around the corner. Friday after school I went over to Luke’s house. We were in his basement making out. His hand started to reach towards my boob. “No.” I shook my head while moving his hand away from me. I got up and dusted off my uniform skirt. I gathered my purse and keys. “Where are you going?” he asked. “I’m going to Chase’s gig.” I told him. It was nearly a year since Chase and I started to be friends. Now we were extremely close. “Melody, you can stay a little longer.” he said while putting his hands on my hips trying to pull be back towards the couch. “No, I can’t be late. I got a talent scout to come to this one.” I told him while smiling brightly. “Whatever, have fun. Just remember, I’m your boyfriend.” he said while letting go of me. “What’s that suppose to mean?” I asked raising an eyebrow. “You spend a lot of time with him. And I’m not saying you’re cheating on me or anything. All I’m saying is that you shouldn’t be spending more time with Chase than your own boyfriend.” he complained while walking away. “I’m sorry, it seems that way. I have to go, I’m sorry.” Lately Luke’s been a little jealous of me spending so much time with Chase. I can’t blame him though, I mean I did spend an awful lot of time with Chase. But Luke was my boyfriend and I loved him and I didn’t want to loose him.

I walked in in the middle of Chase's first song. He smiled at me when he saw me and I smiled back. I scanned the room for the scout that I told to come here and finally spotted him. “Mr. Brownfield?” he looked up at me. “Hi, I’m Melody. The one who told you about Chase.” I told him while pointing up at him. “Oh, hello there.” I sat next to him and we listened to the whole set. I tried to read his body motions to see if he liked Chase or not, but I couldn’t exactly tell. Chase didn’t know I had brought a scout to come watch him. Last time I got a scout to come listen to Chase and I told him about it he totally freaked out and was really nervous. It didn’t exactly end well. I nervously twiddled my thumbs as we listened to Chase’s last song. He clapped at the end of it. “So?” I asked the scout. “He’s defiantly very talented and has great potential and everything.” I nodded my head smiling, “But he’s not exactly what I’m looking for. I’m sorry.” he said. He shook my hand and then left. I took a deep breath and took a big sip out of the coffee I ordered. “Excuse me miss?” a middle aged lady asked me. “Yes?” I responded sounding confused. “That young man that just sang, you know him?” she asked raising an eyebrow. “Yeah, he’s my best friend.” I told her. “He’s very talented.” she said. “Thank you.” I responded taking another sip of my coffee. “Listen,” she started, “My name’s Trisha Burkwell. I come here sometimes to scout out young talent and I haven’t seen talent like your friend’s in quite a while. He has an amazing voice, I like his lyrics and his songs, and he has the perfect image that I’m looking for.” she pulled a rectangular piece of thick paper out of her Gucci bag. “Here’s my card, if he’s ever interested in a record deal give me a call. I expect big things from him.” she handed me the card then shook my hand before she left. I was so overjoyed I couldn't stop smiling. This could be Chase’s big break. I looked up the lady I had just talked too. Apparently Trisha Burkwell was very successful at making musicians famous, this wasn’t some joke.
“Hey, how’d I do?” Chase asked while walking up to me. “Amazing!” I told him smiling. I decided to tell him the news later, after all it was really big news and I couldn’t just spill at some coffee house. I drove him over to my house for dinner. The car ride was spent with laughter, I felt closer to Chase than I did with Clara and Steph. “Hi, Chase!” my mother exclaimed as Chase walked in the door. “Chase, how are you?” my dad asked. My parents loved Chase, I wasn’t quite sure why. They were always more excited to see him over than my boyfriend, Luke. We had a nice enjoyable dinner. “How’d Chase do tonight?” my mother asked peering over at me. “He was great, as usual.” I said while taking a bite of corn. He didn’t argue with me like he used too. But he was still way too modest for being so good.
After dinner, Chase and I went to go hang out in the game room. “You’re keeping something from me.” he said. “No, I’m not.” I said trying to lie. “Yes, you are. I know what you’re like when you’re not telling me something and you’re defiantly not telling me something.” I continued to deny it. I wasn’t sure if it was the right time or place to tell him. “Please Melody!” he begged. I kept shaking my head, “I told you, I’m not keeping anything from you.” All of a sudden he started to tickle me and I laughed uncontrollably. “Chase stop!” I managed to say in between giggles. “Not until you tell me.” I continued laughing. “Please stop!” I told him while laughing. He continued to tickle me, he knew it was the only way to get something out of me. “Fine, I’ll tell you!” I told him. He stopped. “Okay, you might want to sit down for this.” He looked at me weird and sat down. I sat down on the couch next to him. “Okay so today, when you were playing at the coffee shop I had a scout come and listen to you but he didn’t seem interested.” He started to frown, “Oh.” “I’m not done yet, listen. So after he left this lady came up to me and she was all did you know the person who just played and I’m like yeah. So then eventually she ends up saying she loved you and she gave me her card and she wants to give you a record deal!” I exclaimed smiling. “Are you serious?!” he said sounding super excited. “Why would I joke around about something like this?” I pulled the card out of my pocket and gave it to him, “Give her a call!” I tried convincing him. “I defiantly will, thank you, Melody. I wouldn’t be where I was now without you.” he took my hands, “You’re the talented one, Chase.” I started to blush, “If it wasn’t for you I would have given up by now, I mean it.” he told me. He was so excited, all his dreams were so close to coming true. We could barely contain our excitement; Chase had the shot to become famous.
