“Kate, how did you? What did
you? Why are you?” I tried to spit out. I was deeply
confused. “Oh Chloe, do you really think I wasn’t
going to figure it out? I mean come on, we live in the same
house.” she said while taking something out of her bag.
“But but but how?” I managed to stumble out.
“Remember when you told me I could borrow these
shoes?” she asked pointing to my shoes on her feet. I
nodded my heat. “Well, when I was in your closet I found
the boot. Just one lonely boot. The other I saw on the news in
Dylan’s hand. It wasn’t hard to figure out, you
liar!” she started to shout getting angry. She slapped me
across the face as hard as she could. I felt it burn but I
didn’t dare say anything. “Then,” she started
to continue more calmly. “I decided to get some details on
this whole thing. When you went to bed that night, I checked your
email on your phone. You know, you really need a better password.
Anyways, I found the email you sent to your friends about what
you decided to write Dylan. How frickin’ charming. But it
had to be stopped so here you are now.” she said grinning
an evil smile. She gathered up my hands and tied them in a note
with some kind of rope. “What are you doing?” I asked
sounding alarmed. “Making sure you don’t ruin this
night for me. If Cinderella doesn’t show up tonight, Dylan
will think you stood him up and his feelings will get hurt and
he’ll forget about you. And then come crawling back to me
so we can live happily ever after.” she pulled the final
knot. Then she took a hankercheif from her bag and started to
twist it around. “And you’re just going to leave me
here?” She nodded her head a few time, “Duh. But
don’t worry I’ll come and get you after Dylan leaves.
And if you drop the whole Cinderella act after tonight I’ll
forgive you Chloe. But don’t you dare even try because you
know what I’m capable of.” she said while tying the
handkerchief around my mouth. “Looks like Cinderella
won’t get her happily ever after, after all.” Kate
said while slamming the janitor door behind
her.
I was all alone, in the dark, on the
best night of my life. I tried to untie the knot around my hands
but it was pointless. I tried screaming for help several times
but the fact that I was wearing a handkerchief and the music was
drowning out my voice made it impossible for people to hear. I
gave up and just started to cry. How could I be so stupid and
naive? How could I think this would actually work out for me?
Maybe fairytales didn’t exist. I guess the good
didn’t win and evil won in the real world. Maybe there was
no such thing as true love either. Maybe everything I believed to
be true was all a lie.
