Sing for the Moment
THE END
I tried to make this the best I could!
“Cosmo what are you saying?” Niall said and I forced myself to look at him.
“I’m saying I’m leaving the band,” I said. “I’m not changing my mind.”
“Cos-“ he started, tears forming in his eyes.
“Don’t make this any harder,” I said and he sniffled. “I can still be with you and see the guys, but I can’t do the band thing anymore. It’s too hard.”
“There’s nothing I can do?” he asked, more tears falling onto his cheeks.
I wiped them from his face and smiled. “You can know that love you more than anything and, even though I’m leaving the band, I’m never leaving you. Ever.”
“You even love me more than food?” he asked and I nodded, laughing.
“Yes, I love you more than food,” I said, pulling him in for a kiss.
“I love you too,” he said, after pulling away. “But I’m not sure if you top food.”
“Hey!” I said and he laughed.
“I’m kidding,” he chuckled and I smiled. “Want me to get the guys?”
“Why are you getting the guys?” Louis asked, dancing into the hotel room.
“Why are you dancing into my room?” I asked and the other guys laughed.
“Seriously,” Louis said. “Why do you need us?”
“Cosmo’s leaving the band,” Niall said. “Stuff has been said and she can’t deal with it anymore.”
“Cosmo,” Liam said and I shrugged.
“I need a break from all of this,” I said. “I’m still going to hang out with you guys but I can’t do the band thing.”
“Okay,” Harry said. “But we’re going to miss you.”
We all ended up in a huge hug and tears started to fall.
“I’m going to miss you guys too,” I said quietly.
Within the next month things started to become a bit more, real you could say. Tonight I had one last song I was going to do with the guys and then I’d be back off to Doncaster. We actually were having a small concert for only people who supported me. It was Louis’ idea and I couldn’t say no, he wouldn’t let me.
“Alright,” Liam said. “We’re going to do a song that touches a few things.”
“It goes all the way back to Cosmo’s childhood and it means a lot to us, seeing that she’s leaving today,” Harry said.
“I wasn’t notified of this song,” I chuckled. “So I better know it.”
“You will,” Niall said, putting his arm around me and holding his microphone to his mouth.
“We go together like,” he sang slowly. “Ra ma lama lama ka dingatty ding de dong.”
I smiled really big and the other guys joined in.
“Remember forever like,” they sang slowly and then the music picked up.
“That’s better,” Louis’ shouted and they all started making complete fools out of themselves.
“Chang chang, changitty chang shoo bop! We’ll always be together. Wah ooo yeah!” all six of us sang.
By the end of the song, we were all in a line, arms around each other, in tears. On the screen behind us, the day we were put together as a band started playing. We all turned around to watch it with the crowd.
There I stood in between Niall and Zayn. We were 16 and they had their arms around me.
“Thank you so much for coming back,” Nicole said. “I know, judging from some of your faces, this is really hard. We’ve thought long and hard about it, and we’ve thought of each of you, as individuals, and we feel that you’re just too talented to let go of. We think it would be a great idea to have two separate groups.”
“We’ve decided to put you both through together,” Simon said and we all lost it.
The six of us, even though we hardly knew each other then, ended up in a circle, all smiles, hugging and screaming.
“Guys, guys, guys,” Simon said, making us all get into a line again, “this is a lifeline. You have got to work 10, 12, 14 hours a day every single day, and take this opportunity. You’ve got a real shot here, guys.”
Then the interview after that came on.
“How’d that feel?” I was asked.
“It was the worst feeling of my life,” I said, “but then everything changes for the best and it’s a complete rush of just, happiness.”
“Too bad it’s the end,” Zayn choked out.
“Yeah,” I said, “too bad it’s the end.”
I broke away from Niall and Louis’ grip on my shoulders and walked offstage, just sitting on a broken amp, thinking. The other guys walked offstage too, on the other side, but Louis stayed on there, sitting on an amp.
“And I’ll look after you,” I heard Louis sing. “I’ll look after you…”
More tears fell from my face as the kid who was like my brother sang those words.
“Woah woah, woah woah be my baby, and I’ll look after you,” he choked out one more time before looking at me from the stage.
“I’ll look after you,” he said. “Whether you’re in the band or not. I promise.”
He walked off stage where the other guys went and I opened the back stage door that led me outside. It was raining but I didn’t mind. I drove past the X-Factor studio intentionally and memories flashed back. Every little memory I could remember.
Louis’ recent words played in my head.
“Woah woah, woah woah be my baby, and I’ll look after… you.”
