In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with it if you guys end up dating *in the future* as long as your friend is cool with it. You HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE TO ask her first because she might get really hurt by it. You may like this boy, but you and your friend are really close. The only thing you can do is wait it out and talk to your friend about it.

Don't worry about it. The same happened with my friend and I and I did go out with I'm once she didn't care for him anymore. It was all cool and this was a year ago and were still best friends. Don't worry about it unless she still has feelings for him. Then worry. That's all I can say.

Maybe you can write him a note or letter asking him out on a date and leave it in his locker before schools end, that way if you're too nervous, you don't have to look him right in the face and don't have to worry about second guessing yourself. If you do go out with him, you can tell your dad you trust him. It sounds as though you two have known each other for a couple of years so you should already know what he's like and whether or not he's a good guy or not. You dad just probably meant that he just wants to meet him before you go on a date. Hope that helps, good luck :D.
