For Better Or For Worse
Chapter Eight
~ Jackie's POV ~ http://www.polyvore.com/end-of-summer_barbeque/set?id=50152998 ~
“We’ve made it through the first week of school, you guys!” I said, looking at my new group of friends. Ever since I went to Verizon with Tanner, we haven’t been jumping down each other’s throats as much. Well we have, and we still hate each other, but there’s an understanding between us. Thanks to him, I haven’t been tortured yet, and I’ve been buying normal sized lunches. It’s Friday, the day of the barbeque at Hannah’s house.
“Hey, you look really pretty tonight,” Tanner said, sneaking up behind me. I blushed, as I thanked him.
“You look pretty, too,” I joked. I put a hamburger, barbeque Lays, a pickle, and a hotdog on my plate. And some more chips – they’re my favorite. And another pickle – also my favorite. I went over to sit at the huge, circular, white table set for the eight of us. I sat next to Tanner and Mandy, and across from the rest of them. Tanner looked at my plate and laughed.
“What?” I shoved a chip in my mouth, being careful not to mess up my lipstick.
“Is someone a little hungry?” He winked at me, indicating it was just a joke, so I laughed.
“Ha, ha, you’re not funny,” I laughed a little more.
“Do you want some ketchup?” Mandy asked, passing it to me.
“No thanks, I don’t like ketchup.” I said, taking the bottle anyways.
“Fork over the gold!” Tanner said, his eyes getting wide. He yanked the ketchup and poured it into his burger and on the side for “dipping purposes”, whatever that means. I cringed at him when he licked the ketchup off of his mouth.
“Mmmmm,” he emphasized it to gross me out, obviously. Out of nowhere, it started to rain. Not spit, not drizzle, but rain. Hardcore rain; like, thunder storming. Everyone grabbed their food and ran into Hannah’s tiny, one-floored house. I watched through the glass sliding door as the rain hit the patio. The thunder crackled and basically shook her house, and then lightening struck, causing the power to go out. My hair was slightly damp since I barely made it inside without getting wet, but it wasn’t like I was drenched.
“Change of plans, I guess,” Hannah laughed nervously.
“Hey, guys, wanna play truth or dare?” Mandy’s eyebrows crept up her porcelain face as she suggested the game. We all nodded in unison, thinking it would be fun – boy, were we wrong.
