A Softball Player...A girl who once steps onto the field, is transmitted from daddy's little girl into a fierce unrelenting competitor who will stop at nothing in order to win a game. Characteristically with dirt all across her face, ratted sweaty hair, bloody knees, and dirt stained socks and uniform.

    Chasing Woods
    Chapter Four
Cam: Woods if you a$$ is not outside in the next five seconds I'm leaving you.
Only my best friend threatens to leave me on the the first day of school. Today was the start of everything. Our last year in grade school, all the 8th grade priveligies, the run at the state playoffs. Today was also the day Austin Filbin would be introduced to our class. Maybe I would be lucky and we won't be in the same room. When me and Cam finally reached school I immediately saw Austin with a few of the other guys. God only he could make our stupid school uniform look good. I spotted a bunch of the girls huddled together not to far from where he was clealry squealing and giggling about them. LeeAnn and Ally broke from the circle at the same time. But whereas Ally was headed in my direction LeeAnn was headed for Austin
"Hey Woods. Hey Cam." Ally said to him as he broke off from us to the rest of the guys.
"Let me guess. He's all they talked about all morning?" Like it wasn't it obvious enough.
"What gave it away?" I looked at where LeeAnn was clearly flirting with Austin and he was loving every seocnd of it. It was moments like these I really hated LeeAnn. Yeah, we were teammates but outside of basketball I really didn't like LeeAnn. She was self-centered, and thrived on drama, usually she kept it away from basketball though. I walked with Ally to where the rest of the girls were.
    "Hey Woods." Austin called out.
    Wait what?
I looked over at him. Even LeeAnn looked baffled, that he had stopped paying attention to her to say hi to me.
"Ummm, hey." Needless to say my greeting was not as warm and welcoming as everyone elses probably had been so far today.
When we got upstairs, I was happy to discover LeeAnn was not in my class but sadly Austin was. Our teacher thought it would be fun if someone would show Austin around the school. Everyones hands shot up immediately, except mine. I had no interest in spending anymore time with him then I had to.
"Riley." My teachers said sweetly, school was the only place my frist name was used, "Would you mind showing our new friend Austin around?" I was so tempted to say no but I didn't want my teacher to see me as a disrespectful brat.
"Sure." I shrugged getting up. "Let's go."
We were silent when we stepped outside the classroom and when the tour started I sounded like a cranky museum tour guide who'd given the same tour all day. About halfway through the tour Austin stopped me in a stairwell.
"Do you like hate me or something?"
    "Um kind of."
"Why? I've been in this place like five minutes."
"Hello, do you remember what you said to me at th first practice?"
"Okay I admit, I was way out of line the other day, but I was just caught off guard."
"Didn't coach warn you there was a girl on the team."
    "I thought he was joking."
    Unbelievable.
    "Newsflash not a joke."
"I know. I know. Then I get in there and not only is there a girl but a gorgeous girl at that. Look can we start over?"
Did he just call me gorgeous?
"How do I know you're not just trying to butter me up with that compliment?"
"I never lie to a girl about her being pretty."
    There it was again.
"Fine we can start over. But I swear you better change your attitude on the court with me."
"I promise, you'll come to love me." He started to walk ahead of me. "Everyone does."
    feedback?

    I love my coach.
    He understands me.
He doesn't call attention to my injuries.
Only treating me like another athlete.
He understands when I'm in pain.
He wont talk to me unless its necessary.
    I don't want special treatment.
I just want to know whats going on.
Only for the love of the sport.
I am willing to give it up.
    Thank you coach.

    Curveball
    Chapter Thirteen
    Zach's POV
This game was so boring. Why was I here again? I hate Hannah Baker and I'm not a huge fan of her friend Emmie either. Chip was acting like and idiot, just like the rest of the guys. I was relieved when the game was over , but Chip wouldn't let us leave. After Hannah's team came out and they all said hiand whatever we could leave. Where was Chip anyways? I started to look around when these two girls were standing infront of me. Make that two very hot girls.
"Hi cutie, what's your name?" The darker haired one asked.
    "Zach. How about you two?"
"Erin and Alyssa." The blonde answered.
"So your a friend of Hannah?" Alyssa asked.
    "Well were teammates."
    "We love Hannah." Erin gushed.
    Ofcourse. Everyone loves Hannah Baker.
I decided to change the subject, talking about anything I could think of. The conversation was going well but people looked ready to clear out. Suddenly, I heard Hannah's voice.
"Thanks girls! Bye Zach!" She smirked at me. What was that all about?
"Thank god thats over." Alyssa mumbled.
"Later loser." Erin coughed. Oh.my.god! she set me up. Those girls came over and flirted with me because Hannah told them to. God, she was such a-. You know what, it was time to get out of here. Wait a minute, wheres Chip? I grabbed my phone.
"Where are you? What do you mean you left? Dude you did not. Dude just come back and get me. Ughhh, fine!" Man I didn't know any of these guys well enough to ask for a ride. Well, except John. Guess, I had no choice.
"Hey John." I called out to him.
    "Yeah?"
"Umm, Chip kind of bailed, could I get a ride."
    "Yeah sure. Let's go."
About halfway through the ride John turned down the radio.
"Dude can I ask you a serious question?"
    "Yeah sure. I guess."
"Why, after all this time do you still hate on Baker?"
Was he serious? He was there that day. Guess he didn't remember either.
*She turned and walked away laughing, straight to Emmie and John. John looked at me and just shrugged and turned away.*
    "I-you know what forget it."
"Zach? Is this because of what happened in 7th grade?"
    He rememberd?
    "What if it is?"
"Why are you all bent out of shape out over a joke you were playing on Hannah?""
"Is that what you all thought? Newsflash John I was serious that day." John turned and looked at me, clearly baffled.
    "But you hate Baker."
"Well, I had a summer of lapse in judgement. I've never told anyone this."
    "So Chip doesn't know this."
"No and let's keep it that way. Do not tell anyone this. Especially Hannah! Got it?"
"Yeah. But Zach," He pulled up in front of my house.
    "Yeah?"
    "I'm sorry."
Yeah well he wasn't the person who needed to say it.
