    Fight For Her
    chapter two
    Hunter
This couldn't be real. Jason Vance was not back. But yet here 'he was, standing infront of me for the first time in three years.
"Jason?" I'm pretty sure I sounded nowhere near as shocked as I felt. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm back for the the year." He replied, smiling at me. The smile that used to get me all the time. Immediately my guard went up. I needed to get out of here right now.
"Well, welcome back, I guess." I deadpanned turning and walking away.
"Hunter, wait!" He said so quickly, it almost sounded like a plea. No. Keep walking Hunter. And I kept walking until I was safely in the library with Jacque. Jacque Durkin has been my best friend since grade school. A lot of people call us the Irish tiwns since we're both red heads and constantly together.
"You look like you just saw a ghost. What's up?" She asked as I sat down. God, it must be written all over my face.
    "Jason's back." I whispered.
"Jason?" She was confused for a moment. "Ohmygod, Jason Vance?"
    "Yup."
    "Hunter are you sure?"
"Jacque he was at my locker no less then five minutes ago."
"Okay, okay. What are you going to do?"
"What do you mean? I don't plan on talking to him. Hopefully I never see him."
"We don't exactly go to a big school Hunter."
She had a point there. Our school was basically one big square and everyone knew everyone.
    "One can hope right."
"You're sure a wishful thinker. Does Chris know he's back."
    "Oh no, Chris."
Chris Connelly has been my boyfriend for about a month now. I really sturggled with letting people in after what happened freshamn year, especially a guy. Chris was a lot different from Jason though. He was tall, well Jason was too. Chris is blonde and wore his hair in mainly a short cut. Jason's was dark, curly and kind of all over the place. Chris had these sea green eyes and Jason's were dark like his hair. But Chris seriously was a lot of things Jason wasn't and I really liked him and I'm glad we were together. He has made it very clear he was really upset about what Jason did to me. Now that's Jason's back who knows what's going to happen. I had a bad feeling our relationship was about to be put to the test.
    Big time.

    Fight For Her
    chapter one
    Jay
I remember standing ourside this building for the first time three years ago.Three years ago, why I was stupid. Three years ago when I made a big mistake. Three years ago when Hunter was still my best friend.
    **************************************
It's day one of freshman year. The classroom is still pretty empty and the only light is coming through the windows. It's the first class of the days it's English. I'm not very good at English. Something I'm good at is hurting myself. Accident prone should be my middle name. So I sprained my ankle and get to start the year on crutches. That automatically put me in the first desk right next to the door. I could turn around and talk to the kids in the desk behind me but he's super quiet but there's really no point. Then suddenly, the seat next to me was filled. I glance over and and see a girl with long reddish-brown hair that flows well past her shoulders has filled the desk. She catche's me staring, these peircing green eyes meet mine for the first time, and gives me a smile. Did my stomach just flutter?
"What's your name?" She asked. Huh? Is she talking to me?
"Ja-Jason Vance." Why the hell am I stuttering?
"Hunter Denver. My parents thought they were having a boy and decided to stick wiht the name anyway."
I laughed. We had an instant connection. I knew we were gonna be good friends. Who knew by Feburary I'd screw everything up.
    **************************************
"Welcome back, Mr. Vance." Our dean, Mr. Trist greeted me in his office. "I trust I don't need someone to show you around the building?"
"Well it has been a few years." I joked.
"Okay your locked is still the same. Here's the combonation. "
    "Thanks, Mr. Trist."
    "Glad to have you back."
I left his off and headed for the second floor. I shoved my stuff in my locker and grabbed what I needed for my first class. I was in such a hurry I barely noticed the once grey lockers were now red. I wanted to find her right away. The sooner the better. Then I heard a voice.
    "J.V. ?"
I knew the voice instantly, my best friend Riker Hudson.
"Dude is this for real?! You're back?!" He basically jumped into my arms.
"Yes, it's real. Yes, I'm back."
"Why aren't you on the team yet?"
He had to be talking about soccer. I did want to play but it wasn't my first priority.
"I got something I gotta do first." I started toward her locker again. If mine was the same, her's had to be too.
    "What?" Riker asked.
"Come with me and find out." I got to the last locker in her row. Thats when I saw her. Se was putting some stuff on the top shelf of her locker. I never understood why she put stuff up there, she could barely reach it. I was always getting the stuff down from there for her. Well, at least I used to. I took her in for a moment before making my move. It was the first time seeing her since freshman year. She was just as pretty, if not prettier than before. Her hair still hung long and she totally pulled off the cliche catholic school girl uniform. Just as I'm about to move forward, Riker grabbed my arm.
"You sure about this? I have a good hunch of what you're about to do."
"I'm sure. I have to do this." I took his hand off my arm. Deep breath Vance, you can do this. I walked over to Hunter's locker, her view was blocked by the door but she spoke immediately.
    "Hey baby."
Baby? Hell, maybe this was going to be easier than I thought. The locker door slammed shut, snapping me out of my thoughts and he tone immedaitely changed.
    "Jason?!"

    Jason "Jay" Vance
I made my mistakes. Hunter was my best friend, but then I kissed her. A few times. Then I made it all worse. I let everything spiral out of control and took the coward's way out. Not anymore though. I'm back now and determined to make everything right. I'm going to get her back or die trying.
    I will fight for her.
    Chris Connelly
It's going to be the perfect year with the perfect girl by my side. I waited three long years to make Hunter Denver mine but she finally is. The outlook on the year looks so good, until I get to my first period class and see Jason Vance is back. I let him win once but not again. If he thinks he's getting her back just like that he's got another thing coming.
    I will fight for her.
    Hunter Denver
What is happening? He's not honestly back. Jason Vance is not back. But he is. Wrost nightmare come true. Now you think he'd ignore me and leave me alone just like freshman year. No. He wants to make things right. He wants to fix what he broke. Chris has been crazy since he's been back and those two are on the edge of killing each other. When did my life become such a mess?
So I'm giving it a shot again. If this gets enough likes I'll go forward with the story

So I'm awful and left you all hanging with Golden Boy. Truth is I will very likely not be finishing it. I just lost it with the story. I had ideas of where I wanted to get to but not how to get to those points. I'm sorry. There may be another story coming from me eventually. I'm not sure. But I felt I owed all of you an explanation.

    Vinny
"You took an insane risk man." Drew said as nurses tapped up the burns on my wrists.
"It was worth it." I said back to him. I meant it to. I'd do it all again if it meant saving Drew. He was my best friend and couldn't imagine anything without him.
    ************
I ducked under the barricades and made a break from the house. As soon as I was in the front door I knew there was no turning back.I bolted upstairs past the firemen who were doing a bad ob of finding my best friend.
"Drew! Drew! Where are you man?" I was shouting barely able to see through the flames but I wasn't turning back without him. I felt one of the flames touch my arm. Man that hurt. I shouted again. "Drew!" I heard a pounding and then jiggling. I followed the noise. The bathroom door handle was jiggling. There was a chair wedged under the handle and I knew in Drew's house this was the only door that locked on the outside. What was this chair doing here? I kicked the chair out of the way, popped the lock and flung the door open.
"Vin?" Drew was clearly baffled to see me.
"I'll explain later. Let's go!" I grabbed his arm. I heard the roof cracking. It was going to cave in and if we didn't get out of here soon we were going down with it. I noticed the three firemen retreat from the house, clearly willing to let us die in here. That wasn't an option. The roof continued to give way and I knew we only had seconds left. As I heard the finally crack I knew this was it. I saw the front door and shoved Drew out and then launched myself out there. We made it out. We were okay. My arms stung but Drew was alive.
    ***************
"I'd do it all again man." I told him.
"I truly appreciate it. Like I can never repay you. You saved my life Vinny."Drew said.
"You're my best friend Drew. I wasn't going to sit back and do nothing."
"I know. Now I just don't know what I'm gonna do. Someone put that chair there. Someone locked me in that room. I can't live like that." Drew said softly. I looked at the tiles on the walls of the emergency room. This conversation was getting very emotional. Someone had tried to kill my best friend. One of his parents. They were supposed to kill for him not try to kill him.
"You can live with me." I said.
"Dude I can't intrude like that."
"Dude it wouldn't be like that. My parents love you. We have plenty of room."
    "Are you sure?" He asked.
"Of course." Drew practically flung himself at me and hugged me.
    "Thank you so much Vinny."
"You know its not problem man. Next time give me a warning when your going to attack me though."
"You didn't mind when Brooklyn did it today." He said with a smirk still hugging me.
Ahh yeah. That hug Brooklyn gave me when me and Drew made it out of the house was indescribable. I never wanted to let go. But for now I was gonna hang on to my best friend and thank God over and over that he was still here.

    chapter nine
    Brooklyn
We were having a good conversation while we were making up a schedule for baby Graham. Vinny's phone kept going off continually but he was ignoring it. Finally, I think the constant buzzing got to him and he checked his message. Suddenly he shot out of his chair.
"Oh.my.god!" He shouted. His sudden shouting startled me.
    "What's the matter?" I asked.
Drew's house is on fire!" He said. Vinny's face was flushed now and his hands were shaking. Question though, why was he still here?
"Oh.my.god. Vinny go!" I shouted at him.
"Can you come with me? I don't think I can go alone right now or drive." He asked. I immediately got out of my seat.
    "Let's go." I said.
Next thing I know I'm in the drivers seat on Vinny's car flying down side streets to avoid the main streets traffic. Drew's house wasn't to far away from the school but the sooner we got there the better. Vinny's was literally rocking in the passenger seat. I know he called Drew a few times and he didn't pick up.
"He's gonna be okay." I said never taking my eye's off the road.
    "I'm worried." Vinny confessed.
Well were about to see the verdict because I had just turned onto Drew's street. I could see the flames rising above the fire engines that were lining the street.
"OH.MY.GOD!" Vinny shouted at the top of his lungs.I pulled the car over and Vinny bolted out of the car. I tried to keep up with him. I caught him at the barricades that were up keeping the crowd back.
"Tell me something!" Vinny was shouting at a fireman.
"Son calm down. There were three people in the house and two have made it out. One person's inside." The fireman said.
    "Who?" Vinny was still shouting.
"The son. Now I need to move on." The fireman walked away.
"I'm not gonna sit around and watch them do nothing."
    "Vinny what are you doing?"
He didn't answer because he was to busy ducking under the barricade and making a sprint to the house.
"Vinny!" I shouted. Was he insane? He was going to run into a burning building. They officers and fireman saw Vinny and raced to grab him. He dodged all of them and made it through the front door disappearing into the flames.
    ******************************
The seconds past and they felt like hours. Flames were still spreading through the house. The water seemed like a mist on the flames as they tried to control the fire. Why wasn't he out of there yet? Why didn't someone run in there after him to stop him? "There's two kids in there!" An older looking fireman yelled.
"Captain this house is going to go down. The roof's second from giving out. There's nothing we can do at this point." The other fireman said.
The captain just shook his head and looked at the house. He grabbed the collar of his jacket and spoke into his walkie talkie "All men inside get out now. I repeat get out now!"
WHAT? Vinny and Drew were still inside."
You could hear the roof start to crack.
    Crackkk.
Oh.my.god they were gonna die. I felt my heart rate pick up even faster than it already was.
    Crackkk.
Three fireman came out of the house. Come on Vinny! One more crack and it was gonna go.
    Crackkkk!
And there it went. I felt tears spring to my eyes. I threw my hands to my eyes to wipe them away. When I removed my hands there were two more figures on the front lawn.
There Vinny stood on the front lawn with Drew at his side. I couldn't help it, I ducked under the barricade and ran to Vinny, throwing my arms around him. I'd never been so happy to see him in my life. He took an insane risk and saved Drew. He saved his best friend's life.
The Golden boy was a hero.

    Vinny
Today was the interview with Brooklyn for winning homecoming king. Honeslty I could of cared less that I won and the girl who
was my queen Selena Curry. Dear lord I couldn't stand the girl. She thought just because she was the head cheerleader
popularity was entitlted to her. She also thought she was entitled to be my girl friend because we were the two most popular
kids in out grade. Gag me please. I like girls who actually have a nice bone in thrie bodies and Selena doesn't have a single
one. I was about to the journalism room when I could hear Selena's voice already.
"Oh the baby project. I heard everyone has a parnter, but I bet your a single mother because who'd want to partner with your
ugly-" She was saying. Thats when I decided to burst into the room.
"How's my baby-momma?" God I loved being able to say that. And for the first time it made Brooklyn smile. I went over and
looked at my son. Brooklun asked me to sit down and went off to look for something else she need and Selena took that as a
sign to start talking to me.
"Are you seriously her partner?" Selena asked.
Yes and I was stoked about it.
"Yeah so what?" I shrugged, rocking Baby G in his seat.
"Well because you're you and she's so you know. Whatever. When can we hangout again? Its beenn too long?" She placed her hand on my arm. I shrugged it off.
First off Brooklyn was so much better than Selena and no I did not want to hangout with her.
"I'm gonna be kind of busy for awhile." I nodded my head toward Baby G.
"Just dump the baby on her. Who cares not like she does anything."
And not play mommy and daddy with Brooklyn Hamilton for a month? She couldn't be serious.
"I'm not gonna do that. I'm gonn earn my grade on this project."I told her.
"Whatever Vinny." Selena glanced at her watch. "Can we do this sometime today Brooklyn? I have practice soon."
Brooklyn came back and started asking question. I had to give answers that everyone expect from the Golden Boy. After answering her final question Selena left, giving me some alone time with Brooklyn. Score. But I still needed to answer that last question.
"Can you just write something like it felt awesome. People wouldn't want to know the truth." I told her. And she look intrigued.
"What do you mean?" She asked me.
"Is this off the record?" I asked glancing at the recorder and notebook.
"Sure."I shoved it aside immediately. "Now what did you mean?"
"I didn't want to win. I didn't even want to be nominated. But I got all of that becuase of how people view me. Because I'm the
    Golden Boy."
"What could possibly be bad about being you?" She asked.
"Being the Golden Boy doesn't mean you get everything you want." I looked her in the eyes for a split second after saying
that. "I know you're probably thinking what could I possibly want that I don't already have, you might be surprised."
"Okay. I'm not going to push it. Did you wanna make a schedule for the baby?" She asked.
"That sounds like a good idea." I said. We were having a nice normal conversation and my phone started buzzing like crazy. I tried as long as I could. Ugh.What was so important? I had six texts from Jack. The last one caught my attention immediately.
Jack Elliot: DREW'S HOUSE IS ON FIRE!
"Oh.my.god!" I shot out of my seat.
    "What's the matter?"She asked.
"Drew's house is on fire!" I was panicing. I didn't know what to do.
    "Oh.my.god. Vinny go!"
"Can you come with me? I don't think I can go alone right now or drive."
    "Let's go." She agreed quickly.
We were flying down every back road possible to beat traffic. The girl could drive but I couldn't really think about that right now.
All I could think about was my best friend being okay.
Please God let Drew be okay.

    Brooklyn
After school I headed to the journalism room. I loved this room more than anything. On one side of the room was computers and on the side I was currently on had one big round table where we sat during staff meetings. Then there were smaller tables for interviews. I'd be on the staff since I was a freshman. I didn't get to do too much freshman year, I basically just passed out papers and read articles written by the upper classmen. Sophomore year I got to do small articles. Then every year a junior is given their own section and that was me last year. Now as a senior I was the editor-in-chief of our newspaper at our high school. It was a lot of responsibility but I loved to write. Its what I want to major in next year. My jobs were the sports section and front cover. We just had our homecoming and I did the football article and now I had a scheduled interview with the homecoming king and queen. I was never sure why we did this but the front cover after homecoming was the king and queen, but we did, every year. I had the baby sitting up on the table next to me while I was waiting. Suddenly, the door flung open. In walked Selena Curry. She was about five foot six, platinum blonde, head cheerleader and the typical high school mean girl. She thrives on people being afraid of her, but I've never been one of those people so she's always been extra mean to me. She sat down across from me and flipped her hair before she spoke.
"Hello Hamilton." Selena said with sarcastic enthusiasm.
"Hi Selena." I said meeting her tone.
"Oh the baby project. I heard everyone has a partner, but I bet your a single mother because who'd want to partner with your ugly-" She was cut off when another voice said.
"How's my baby-momma?" Vinny joined us in the room, walking right over to baby Graham.
Did I mention the Golden Boy was the homecoming king? How cliche. But the look on Selena's face was priceless right now.
"Can we get started?" I asked motioning for Vinny to sit down. Vinny turned the baby seat toward him as he sat down next to Selena. Thats when I noticed I didn't have the recorder for the interview. "I forgot something. I'll be right back."As I crossed to the other side of the room and looked around for a recorder, I couldn't help but over hear the conversation going on between Selena and Vinny.
"Are you seriously her partner?" Selena asked him.
"Yeah so what?" He shrugged, rocking the baby seat.
"Well because you're you and she's so you know. Whatever. When can we hangout again? Its been too long?" She placed her hand on Vinny's arm.

"I'm not gonna do that. I'm gonna earn my grade on this project."
"Whatever Vinny." Selena glanced at her watch. "Can we do this sometime today Brooklyn? I have practice soon."
I snatched a recorder up and walked back over to the table.
"Okay. My first question is for Selena, were you surprised to find out you were in the running for queen?" I asked.
Of course she wasn't but she'll lie to make herself look good.
"I was shocked, but honored my classmates found me worthy to be nominated." She said.
"Okay Vinny, same question."I looked at him.
"Well, I'd kind of be lying if I said I was." He said.
    Wow conceited much?
"Selena, how did you feel finding out you won?" I asked.
"I was so excited. It was truly honored that the school voted for me. Now if that's it I have to go to cheer. Bye Vinny." Selena winked at him. No shock she didn't bother saying bye to me as she left the room.
"Okay Vinny how did you feel finding out you won?" I asked him.
I bet he feels he was entitled to it since he was the Golden Boy.
"Can you just write something like it felt awesome. People wouldn't want to know the truth." He said.
    "What do you mean?"
"Is this off the record?" He asked glancing at the recorder and notebook.

    chapter six
    Vinny
A month of school was now behind us. For a lot of people it was about the count down to graduation. I wanted to enjoy ever moment of senior year that I could. But I did want more than I had. I know that I'm the Golden Boy, and should be happy that I basically have everything a guy my age wants, and have the pick of any girl in the school. But the one thing I want, doesn't want me. But I'm determined to change that. I was heading to my first class of the afternoon. Life Management. This was one of my favorite classes because it was one of my few classes with Drew. Me and Drew walked into the classroom and I immediately was drawn to Brooklyn. I walked as close to her as possible hoping to catch a whiff of her perfume. She wore this vanilla stuff that made her smell like cookies. It drove me wild. But today all I could smell was whatever the foods class had been cooking earlier today; chili?
"Yo over here." I recognized Jack's voice calling out to me and Drew from a pink covered table at the opposite end of the room from Brooklyn. Once I sat down, I started to fiddle with the pink plastic cloth on the table. Why is there a pink cloth on the table? I started to look around the room all the tables had these plastic cloths in pink or blue.I looked around the room more and noticed the baby car seats at the front of the room. Oh.my.god. the baby project. My older brother Anthony did this project a few years ago. He had to take care of a baby for a few days. He was really bad at waking up when it would cry so it would cry all night. It was a real pain in the you know what. But I sleep really light so I wouldn't have to worry about my baby crying all night.
"Looks like its the baby project." I said to no one in particular at the table.
"I am gonna nail this project." Drew said. A bunch of the other guys said the same thing but I knew deep down why Drew wanted to do a good job on this. He wanted to prove he was going to be a better dad than his was to him. I leaned over to him.
"You're gonna be a great dad man." I whispered.
    He smiled. "Thanks."
"Settle down," Mrs. Auger said."If you remember when we went over the syllabus we have a few big projects this semester. Well welcome to your first project, baby care! For the first time with this project, since we have an even amount of boys and girls, you will be paired off to take care of one of the babies for a month." Mrs. Auger continued talking.
Everyone started talking at once. I immediately looked around and started counting girls. I had a one in ten chance of getting Brooklyn as my partner. I was liking my odds. I stayed silent while the boys discussed who the best "mom" would be in class. Mrs. Auger walked up to Brooklyn with the bag first. I crossed my fingers under the table and watched her unfold her slip of paper.
    "Vinny Carlson!" Brooklyn said.
Jackpot! I couldn't help it, I threw my arms in the air and shouted yes. I didn't care, I was pumped. A month of playing mommy and daddy with Brooklyn Hamilton was a dream come true.
"So what did we have mommy?"I asked once I was over by her.
"A boy." She said flatly. She did not look excited. There was no brightness to her beautiful green eyes like there usual was. This was my golden opportunity to make her realize I was the one. That me and her were perfect together. I went and collected the baby while she grab the other necessities we needed for this.
"So what do you think we should name our son?" I asked.
"I don't know." She said still seeming bored.
"Vinny junior?" I decided to suggest something I knew she would never go for.
    "Not a chance."
"What about Graham?" I knew this was risky.
"That's my grandpa's name." She said softly.
"I know. So how about it? Baby Graham. Baby G for short." I shot her what hopefully a sexy grin.
    "Okay thats good." She agreed.
I started to play around with Baby G. I was looking at his but when suddenly I heard. Pffft. Oh.my.god. this thing farts for real. I heard Brooklyn start to laugh. I look over and see her smiling and the brightness in her eyes is back for the moment. I'll let this baby fart in my face everyday if it means making her smile like that.

    chapter five
    Brooklyn
We were now a month into school. Senior year was supposed to be a blast, and I was not off to the best start.I was heading to my first class after lunch which was Life Management. Its the class that's supposed to prepare you for life after high school. Entering the hallway it smelled amazing. The advanced foods students must of made something really good today. That smell was going to be very tempting because the Life Management room doubled as the foods classes room. Being distracted by the smell, I didn't notice until I sat down that the room had a complete make over. The room looked identical to a nursery. Up at the very front of the room, there were baby bottles, diaper bags, baby carries, strollers, snugglies, pink and blue baby hats, and in the very center babies. Mechanical babies of course, but babies none the less. Our teacher had even went as far as to cover every other in either a pink or blue table cloth. As people came into the room the were all whispering about what was going on. I had a feeling we all were going to have to take care of a baby for a few days. Thats shouldn't be too bad. Finally our teacher, Mrs. Auger, walked in.
"Settle down," Mrs. Auger said."If you remember when we went over the syllabus we have a few big projects this semester. Well welcome to your first project, baby care!"
Exactly what I thought. Taking care of a baby for a few days, this would be an easy A.
"For the first time with this project, since we have an even amount of boys and girls, you will be paired off to take care of one of the babies for a month." Mrs. Auger continued talking.
WHAT? First of all a month? And second, a partner? I started to look around the room and look for potential "fathers". There was ten boys in this class. There were five boys sitting at one of table with a blue table cloth and five at the one with the pink. The boys at the blue were guys I didn't really know well but they were all better than the guys at the pink table. The pink table had all baseball players at it. Gabe Kane, Mike Summers, Jack Elliot, Drew Mazz, but any of them would be better than the last guy at the table because the last guy was the "Golden Boy".
"Now I'm going to go around and the girls and you will pick your partner from this bag. Then you will announce the name you picked and go grab the gender of the baby assigned and arrange yourselves accordingly." Mrs. Auger came up to our table. This was being left to chance? There was a one in ten chance of pulling the wrong name from that bag. Suddenly the bag was shaking in front of my face. I felt like I was sticking my hand in the a dog's mouth and asking it to bite me.
Please not Vinny. Please not Vinny.
My heart sped up as I unfolded the piece of paper.
    Vinny Carlson
    (B)
    "Vinny Carlson." I choked out.
"Yes!" Someone across the room yelled. I wiped my head to look at the screamer, to see Vinny with his arms in the air. I looked at him and his eyes were practically dancing. What in the world was he so happy out? He got up out of his seat and walked over to me.
"So what did we have mommy?"He asked me.
    "A boy." I said.
"Wonderful. Shall we go pick up our son?"
Why was he being so chipper? This was a nightmare. Well I grabbed all the little things, Vinny got the baby. He still had a huge smile on his face and it got even bigger when he picked out the baby. Once we were sitting he started chatting again.
"So what do you think we should name our son?"Vinny asked.
    "I don't know." I said.
    "Vinny junior?" He suggested.
    "Not a chance."
"What about Graham?" He said next.
    "That's my grandpa's name." I said softly.
"I know. So how about it? Baby Graham. Baby G for short." He shot me a grin. That stupid grin.
    "Okay that's good."
Vinny smiled and then stated examining the baby. He was looking at Graham's butt. Pffft. Vinny made a grossed out face and I started laughing. It may not have been the blast I was looking for but it was a start.

    Vinny
Day one of senior year was awesome. Brooklyn is in every single one of my classes which means I get to see her everyday, even if she's not thrilled about it. When the school day ended I was met by my best friend Drew Mazz. Me and Drew have been best friends since were little. Like there isn't a memory from my childhood that I can remember that doesn't involve Drew. He was with our other buddy Jack Elliot waiting for me to drive them home. Jack was one of our buddy's from the baseball team. Thinking about the baseball team made me think about Brooklyn and how she still hated me. I wanted so badly to change that. As we walked out of school, I saw her waiting by her friend Mackenzie's car. I couldn't help but look at her. It always happened when I was near her, my eyes were just drawn to her. I caught her eyes and she immediately looked away. I'd be lying if I said that didn't sting a bit, but I kept on a front for my friends.
"Ready boys?" I asked them as we approached my car. My car was my baby. She wasn't a monster or anything big but she could fly. Blew those big cars out of the water. Drew called shotgunand slid into my co-pilot and Jack piled into the back.
"So how was everyone's first day?" Jack asked.
"It was going good till English. I got Kasper." Drew said.
"Aww man you're going to have to work your butt off. And you better because I will kick your butt if you're ineligible in the spring." I warned my friend. Drew was smart don't get me wrong but Kasper is the toughest teacher at this place. She ruins kids.
"No worries man. How were your classes?"
"Actually pretty perfect.Senior year is going to be a breeze." I left out the part about Brooklyn being in all my classes cause I didn't want them to get a lectured on me. I pulled up in front of Jack's house.
"Get out you ugly monkey." I jokingly said.
"If I'm ugly I don't wanna know what you are. See ya tomorrow." He slammed the door. I headed in the direction of Drew's house.
"Can I come over?" Drew whispered. Oh man. Drew only spoke softly when something was bothering him. I looked over at him, and could tell he wasn't ready to talk about whatever it was.
"Ofcourse man." I turned the car around and headed to my house. I pulled into the garage next to my dad's giant SUV. His car was nice but like I said I love my baby. We went straight to the kitchen where my mom was at the counter.
"Hi Vinny. Hi Drew how are you?"
"I'm great Mrs. Carlson how are you?"
"I'm good. Would you boys like a sandwich?
"Thats sounds great."Drew beamed at my mom. Drew loved my parents. I knew his home life was all messed up since he dad was barely around and when he was all he did was fight with his mom. I wonder if something happened last night and that's why he wanted to come over. I'd have to find out later. After we ate some sandwiches I asked Drew if he wanted to do some batting practice in the yard. We went and set up the pitching screen. There was nothing but woods behind my house so we could blindly hit balls into the woods without breaking any windows. After Drew hit we went to search for the baseballs in the woods. I decided maybe now was the time to talk to him.
"Drew buddy everything all right? Did something happen last night?"
"He came home. Fought with mom.Took money and left. Then mom left.I get a call from a bar at three am that I need to come get my mom cause she's wasted. I'm so sick of being an adult when I supposed to be a kid still. I can't wait to move out next fall."
I can't imagine having Drew's parents. They expect him to be an adult when they act all childish. I wish I had a better way to help him.
"Maybe this weekend can I crash here and we go out and pick up chicks?"
My mind immediately went to Brooklyn.
"Sure, I'll play your wing man."
"Wing man? You got your eye on someone already?" He thought for a moment. "Dude no."
    "What?"
"Please do not tell me you're still hung up on Brooklyn Hamilton? You could have girl in school you want. You already had her. You need to move on."
No. I wanted Brooklyn. And I was gonna do whatever it takes to get her.
    Moving on wasn't an option.

    chapter three
    Brooklyn
I survived day one of senior year. I was headed out to the parking lot to meet Mackenzie at her car. Mackenzie Benson has been my best friend since the sixth grade. It was one of those things you don't really know how you became friends but you just feel like you always have been. That was me and Mackenzie. I knew Mackenzie was probably still walking to her locker, even though most people were finishing up and leaving school, she doesn't feel the need to rush. So I waited outside her car by myself. As I waited Drew Mazz, Jack Elliot, and Vinny walked by. I didn't want to look at any of them but I felt one of them looking at me. So I glanced up to see Vinny looking at me. Ugh. I purposely looked away and thankfully saw Mackenzie heading my way.
"Girl open the doors." I called out. I saw her fish into her bag.
    BEEP BEEP.
I swung the door open quick and didn't bother looking back to see if he was still looking at me. I didn't want to know. I didn't care. Mackenzie finally joined me in the car.
"Hey girlie, how was your day?"
Normally we wouldn't have to ask this question because our schedules had aligned since freshman year. Wouldn't it be that senior year that we have not a single class together.
"Well my days starts, goes on and finishes with the "Golden Boy." I said.
"Get out! Vinny's in all your classes?"
    "Every single one."
"Thats crazy. I'm sorry. Maybe he'll just stay out of your way."
"He's been staring at me all day. Its creeping me out."
"Did you ever think maybe he still cares?"
My jaw dropped. Mackenzie knew better than to talk about this. Vinny made it perfectly clear freshman year the thing that was more important to him. It was baseball. Relationships and people don't matter to him.
"Don't even say that. Kenzie you know how he is. He doesn't do relationships. He just plays baseball and hooks up with girls."
    "Brooklyn."
    "Mackenzie please just don't."
I flipped her the visor in the car down. I didn't want to hear her talk about how he did like me, how he did care, how baseball wasn't more important that it was just important. I didn't want to hear it because it wasn't true. Did he like me? Maybe. Did he care? Maybe. Was baseball more important than me? Absolutely was. Vinny was always going to car more about baseball than girls. I took a minute to look at myself. Despite how I was feeling at the moment my eyes looked bright, I still had a nice tan going from the summer, and my hair looked good long and straight. I maybe only be five foot three compared to my blonde five foot six blue eyed best friend,I was cute. I could get a guy right? Maybe it was time to start trusting boys again.
Maybe it was time to move on.

    *Flashback Freshman Year*
She stood out from every other girl immediately. One because she was in white where as every other girl was in some sort of dark color like black or blue. Two because she was also the prettiest girl there. I knew she was in one of my classes and my lunch period, but because due to my insane schedule she might not know who I am. Thank god we didn't have a fall ball tournament or I would miss this chance. I saw her looking my way so I decided it was time to make my move.
    "Hey."I said.
"Hi." She squeaked out and then started playing with the bottom of her dress. God she was cute. Her brown hair hung long with some curls on the end. She had bright green eyes that sucked me in immediately. I decided I wanted to test if she knew me or not.
"You're Brooklyn right? I think your in my lunch and science class."
"Yeah I am."She paused and went into deep thought. "I'm sorry, I can't remember your name."
Ahh, well I couldn't blame her. I was out quite a bit in the first few months.
    "Vinny Carlson."
"Your the kid who the teacher is constantly calling absent."
I laughed because that's so true,
"Yeah. I've been playing a lot of fall baseball tournaments."
    "Ahh your a baseball player."
    "Yeah. You like baseball?"
    "Yeah."
I must of hit the jackpot. Pretty and likes baseball. Suddenly I couldn't shut up. I was telling her everything about summer baseball and fall ball. All the tournaments and everywhere the team went this summer. The dance was going on behind us but I was perfectly content talking to this pretty girl all night. When the fast pace of the music changed to a slow tune I decided it was time to hit the floor.
"Hey wanna dance?" I held my hand out to her, she didn't say a word but took my hand. I slipped my arms around her waist and pulled her as close to me ash she would allow. I decided a little sweet talk wouldn't hurt.
"Man, I should of asked you to be my date. Then I would have gotten to hold you this close all night and not just for one slow song."I flashed her what was hopefully a sexy smirk.
"You can hold me this close whenever you want." She smiled at me.
Ah she matched my charm. She was truly perfect.
"Sounds like a plan to me."
And that's where our relationship began. And throughout the year everything was perfect. Freshman year was perfect. But then the summer happened. Then baseball happened.
    *************************
It the first day of school. My first period class is american government. I'm already in good shape for this class because Coach Ryan, the varsity baseball coach, is the teacher for this class.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't the Golden Boy."
Yeah I'm kinda known as the golden boy around school since sophomore year because I was a big reason of why the Varsity went to state. Someone called me the Golden Boy and it stuck. When I turned to scan the seats, that's when I saw her. I knew she probably wasn't pleased to see me. She hates baseball because of me. Hell she hates me. But its not mutual. In fact its completely opposite.
    I love Brooklyn Hamilton.

He stood out to me immediately. The dark hair and dark eyes. He was tan, a sweet golden brown, that truly showed his spent his summer outside. His dress shirt sleeves were rolled up to his elbow. His shirt was black and his tie was was a nice blue. How had I not seen this guy before? The freshman class wasn't that big? Did we have a class together and I just never notice? But how could I not notice him? He was too cute. Suddenly he looked right at me. Oh no he caught me staring at him. Wait what was he doing? He broke away from the group of guys he was with. Was he coming over here? Oh.my.god. he was!
"Hey." He said. His voice was already deep.
"Hi." I barely squeaked out and actually looked down and played with the hem of my dress.
"You're Brooklyn right? I think your in my lunch and science class."
"Yeah I am." Lunch and science. Two times a day and I had no idea who this guy was. I really have to pay attention more. Well might as well go the honesty route. "I'm sorry, I can't remember your name."

As soon as I said yeah he was talking a mile a minute, but I didn't mind. I wanted to hear everything he had to say. He was telling me all about his summer ball team and all the cool places they went for tournaments. The dance was going on behind us. I don't know how many girls spend their freshman homecoming against a wall chatting with a guy all night but I didn't have a single complaint. The fast paced music that was blasting throughout the room slowed down.
"Hey, wanna dance?" Vinny asked holding out a hand to me. I couldn't think of the right words so I just took his hand. He led me out to the gym floor where some of the crowd had dispersed because of the slow song. He slipped his arms around my waist and brought me close to him. I swear a shiver ran down my back. After a bit of silent swaying, Vinny spoke again.
"Man, I should of asked you to be my date. Then I would have gotten to hold you this close all night and not just for one slow song."
"You can hold me this close whenever you want." I smiled at him.
Umm excuse me, who said that cause I know I would never have the confidence to say that.
"Sounds like a plan to me."
And that's where our relationship began. And throughout the year everything was perfect. Freshman year was perfect.

One of the perks of the first day is being able to sit wherever you want because most of the teachers don't care or have more important stuff to talk about. Epilogue
Three weeks after bringing home the win and everything calmed down with the media and the hype of winning, I finally relaxed. It was a tad stressful coming home after it all. Part of me didn't want to leave the game because it was going to be difficult to leave the moment behind. Then the media erupted again, but now to show off that we beat the odds and won. Tonight they were hanging the banner that had finally arrived, and that would be it. We would be a team for one last time tonight.
    ********************
    Allie: you ready?
Allie must have been out front and ready to go to the banner hanging ceremony. I slipped my state champions sweatshirt on and headed outside.
"I'll take that as a yes."She said as I was locking the door.
    "Yup. Let's go."
"Are you okay? Like that tonight's the end of it all?" Allie asked as we got closer to school.
"It's not like there's much I can do about it. Plus I'm a little relieved its all going to be over. So much drama went along with this."
"That is very true. But at least its all worked out now."
We were just outside the school when someone suddenly swung an arm around my shoulder. I jumped, startled for a second, but when I saw those sweet green eyes I calmed. I couldn't believe it took me so long to figure out Cam had feelings for me and that the feeling was mutual. When we walked in I glanced around looking for the team when I caught Austin's eye. Austin didn't take me choosing Cam so well in the beginning. And when we came back to school the week after winning, he started dating LeeAnn which clearly was out of spite. But it only lasted a few days and then I sat down and talked to him. We got everything out and now he was finally coming around and I had a feeling we were going to be friends, eventually. We went and joined the team who were currently standing under where the banner would hang.
"I can't believes it's over." Cam whispered quietly but I knew everyone heard him.
"I know. It seems just like yesterday we worried about even having a team." Fitz said.
Everyone fell into silence their own silent reminiscing about the past four years. (Well in Austin's case one). This team was truly incredible, I loved every single one of these boys. They made me a stronger person and a better ball player. The rooms attention was called to where we were standing. My dad and Coach Larson were on ladders, one end of the banner in each other their hands.
    SMACK!
Everyone looked up and the now hanging banner.
    St.Johns Braves
Home of the 2013 State Champions.
Now that the banner hung it truly was over. In seven weeks we would leave all of this behind to move on to summer basketball for our future high schools. In a sense grade school was over and it was time to move on.
"One last time." One of the boys shouted. Seven hands went into the air with pride.
    "Braves!"
feedback? well thats it! New story ideas will be up soon because I can't choose!

    Chapter Nineteen
Stupid boys. I broke up with one boy just to be blown off by the other. Granted I'm pretty sure I didn't like the boy I broke up with anymore anyways but why did Cam blow me off? He likes me doesn't he? Ughh. Days went by and nothing changed. It was now game day. The state championship, and clearly two of my teammates weren't speaking to me or each other. We showed up early enough to watch the third place game. I was sitting row above my team just trying to relax my nerves. Time was winding down. And the buzzer went off giving us our time to take the court. Out of nowhere Austin turned toward me.
"Is there any chance you'll change your mind?" He asked.
    "About what?" I asked.
"Us. The break up. I still like you. I don't want it to be over."
Just as I was about to answer I was cut off.
"She broke up with you. Let it go." Cam said.
"This isn't your conversation Stabler. Stay out of it."
"She doesn't like you anymore. She likes me."
"How can she be sure. Everyone know's you blew her off."
Omg did everyone know about that?
"Shut up. I made a mistake."
    "Well that could change things."
"Why don't we just ask Woods?"
"Fine. Woods, me or him?" Cam laid down the question.
I thought about what Allie said the other day. Boys will get over themselves. I had to do what I wanted to be happy. So I brushed past both of them, because right now what I wanted more than anything was a state championship title.
    *****************************
At half time we were down ten points. The other team clearly thought they had this in the bag. The whole reason we were losing because Austin and Cam decided they weren't going to play together. I did not come this far to lose. Just as the boys started to filter out of the locker room, I caught their attention.
"If your names are Cam or Austin do not leave this room."
The both stiffened but turned around to face me.
"What is-" Cam started to say but I cut him off.
"Don't talk, just listen. What is the matter with both of you? Does winning this game mean anything to either of you? We have overcome so much to get here and now you two are gonna blow it over liking the same girl and then fighting about it. If either of you has a brain cell in your head you'll talk this out right now. Because I guarantee I won't like either of you if we lose this game." I left them with that leaving the room. They didn't come out right away which I took as a good sign. A few moments later they came out together, they looked at me and I held my breath.
"Let's do this." They both said together. They threw their hands up, I followed and then so did the rest of the team.
"Let's go Braves! Let's win this."I shouted. The boys starting bouncing. It was go time. Time to take the title home.
    ******************************
There was no time on the clock. We were down one point. I was on the free throw line because one of their guys shoved me as I went up for the game tying layup. I was all alone here. Everyone else stood at half court. At least Austin and Cam played together in the second half and we managed to stay in the game. And now was time to seal the deal. Two chances to at least tie this game and send it to overtime. I took a deep breath and let the first one go.
    Woosh.
Our crowd went crazy and the game was only tied. Now or never. I put the ball up and closed my eyes. Then I heard it.
    Woosh.
The crowd went wild again and now the team was too. I glanced to the scoreboard, Braves 47, Raiders 46. We won! I turned around to celebrate with my team. That's when I jumped into his arm. And that's when I knew it was him.
    He was the one.
feedback? So Cam or Austin? Next chapter is the last chapter.

We pulled off a come from behind win to make it to the state championship. A come from behind win that we only won by two points. My head wasn't in the game at all. I had a whole four days to turn my game around and straighten this all out. I needed Allie.
Me: EMERGENCY I NEED YOU! PLEASE COME OVER!
    The response was immediate.
    Allie: be there in five.
I sat on the steps waiting for her. How did I get into this mess? Moments later Allie arrived.
"Why do you look so miserable? I thought you guys won today?" Allie joked.
"We did, but I'm having a problem." I said.
    "Which is?"
    "Cam likes me."
    "Yeah and?"
"Did everyone know this but me!" I threw my head into my hands.
"Come on Woods its been obvious to everyone for at least a couple years. We all just figured you weren't interested."
    "I had no idea!"
"Okay calm down.Whats the problem? Your with Austin." I stayed silent trying to find the words to say this. "Omg you don't wanna be with him anymore. You wanna be with Cam."
See this is why she's my best friend. She's able to say the things I can't bring myself to say. I nodded at her to let her know she's right.
"But he's been my best friends besides you for like the last four years. And I don't want to hurt Austin. God this is such a mess."
"I think either way someones gonna get hurt. But you don't want to hurt yourself Woods. Do what you need to, to make you happy. Both boys will get over themselves. You think about that for a second. I'll be inside."
I pulled my phone out and texted Austin.
Me: Can you come over? We need to talk.
    *******************************
Austin walked up but didn't smile at me the way he usually did.
    "Hi." I said hesitantly.
"Just get it over with Woods."
    "What?"
"Oh come on. We need to talk. I know you're gonna break up with me."
"Okay. Well I just, I'm really confused Austin. I'm sorry."
"Why are you doing this? What did I do wrong?"
    "It's not you. It's me."
Wow if this wasn't sound like the most cliche break up I don't know what was.
    "Is this about Cam?"
I stayed silent. Not knowing what to say.
"Guess there's my answer. See ya at the game Woods." He walked off.
I pulled my phone out again this time texted Cam.
    Me: Come over?
Cam: Be there in a bit.
Ten minutes later he was here.
    "What's up Woods?" Cam said.
"Just wanted to see what you were up to. Wanted to hangout." He joined me on the steps.
"So what you been doing today?" He asked.
"Well Allie's inside. And well Austin came over for a bit and I broke up with him." Cam turned toward me immediately.
    "You did?"
    "Yeah."
"Why? Thought you guys were good?"
"Well we were but then all these other feelings came up."
    "Me?"
    "Well, yeah."
He starred at me. God he was adorable. I think he was going to- he was beginning to lean toward me. He was gonna kiss me. I slowly let myself close my eyes.
"Wait, I-I can't do this." My eyes snapped open.
    "What? What's the matter."
"This is just to soon. I- I gotta go Woods." He jumped up from the stairs and jogged off. Leaving me to sit there confused. I said it before and I'll say it again, my life was easier when my only love was basketball.

    Chasing Woods
    Chapter Seventeen
"What?" He released his grip on the door and turned to look at me. We were the only two left in the locker room which is probably why I blurted it out in the first place. If I had said this in front of everyone-Austin-this would of been ten times more awkward then it already was.
    "Are you Cam?"
    "Where did you get this?"
    "LeeAnn-"
    "You honestly trust LeeAnn?"
    "And Fitz."
He looked at the ground and ran his hand through his hair.
"Woods this is not the time for this conversation."
"Is it ever going to be? This has been driving me crazy Cam."
"Woods not now. We'll talk about it later."
"No I'm sick of putting this off. I need to know."
    "Why? You have a boyfriend."
"That not the point Cam. Your my best friend. We've never kept things from each other."
"Well please tell me how you're supposed to tell your best friend you've been in love with he since fifth grade when she made the sacrifice to save this team? The fact that you've gotten closer and closer since that day. And then when you finally plan to tell her another guy shows up and she falls for him. Does that answer your question?"
    Oh.my.god.
"Cam why didn't you say something before this?"
"Because everyone was always like dude I don't think she's interested. But this year I was like you know what I'm gonna take the chance and tell you anyways but then Austin showed up and threw my plan out the window."
"You had time to tell me before I started dating Austin."
"I knew from the moment he walked in you were gonna fall for him."
    "How?"
"I am your best friend right? I know everything about you. Even those things you don't know."
"You are my bestfriend. I can't believe I didn't see this."
"I didn't make it obvious Woods. I was pretty discret about it. I kept it to mysef."
"Then how did everyone else know!"
"I don't know and Woods seriously none of this matters because your with Austin and you don't like me. Just drop."
The door suddenly opened. "Are your two coming or what?"Austin asked.
"Yeah." Cam said taking one last glance at me and walking out. Austin walked up to me.
    "You okay?"
God he was so cute. But I wasn't looking at him.
I was looking past him at my six foot, tall brown haired,
    best friend.
