I'm Your Mate
Chapter 8
Cammie and I had a blanket under us
and as we were laying on our stomachs in the grass by the school.
We got here a little earlier than usually so we could just
relax.
"Is Jace coming to school today?" I asked after taking
a sip of my iced coffee.
"No clue. I didn't see him this morning." She
shrugged.
"Oh." I huffed. I need him today. Everyone is going to
be curious about the bruises on my neck.
"Don't worry. He'll come to school. He wouldn't
leave you alone today." She said squeezing my hand.
I got up from the blanket and dumped my iced coffee into the
trash.
Looks like I'll be dealing with this school day alone. I
yelled out to Cammie that I'd see her in class. I made my way
towards the school. Someone put there arm around me making
me yelp in shock.
"Calm down. It's only me, bunny," Derek teased.
"Don't do that to me!" I yelled at him slapping him
in the arm.
"You're neck looks really bad today." He commented,
continuing to pull me up the stairs and into the school.
"Gee thanks, not like I haven't noticed." I replied
rolling my eyes. He stopped walking and pushed me up
against the lockers.
"Does it hurt?" He asked lightly tracing the bruises. I
nodded my head.
"Do you know if Jace's coming to school today?" I
asked.
"He should be here any minute." He stated. I pushed him
away from me sensing that Jace was near us.
"Hey guys." He said possesively pulling me towards him.
I looked over at Derek to see him roll his eyes. I sent him a
wink.
"I didn't know if you'd come to school today because
you didn't pick me up." I said trying to distract
him.
"Yeah, I asked Cammie to pick you up because I had to take
care of some things." He said eyeing Derek.
I suddenly got angry. "Right. I get it." I said,
shoving his arm off of me and walking away.
"Hey Avery! Where are you going?" He shouted jogging to
catch up to me.
I turn to him and shouted, "away because you're totally
ignoring me and would rather send Derek jealous glares."
"Well, it's not like he didn't deserve it." He
said grabbing my hand.
"Derek and I are just friends." I replied.
"I saw the wink you sent him, Avery. Don't lie to
me." He said sternly.
"I was joking around with him. It's not like it meant
anything! God. I feel like I'm back in my old relationship.
Always having to explain myself and appologizing when I do
nothing wrong." I spat, ripping my hand from his and
stroming in the other direction.
It was almost homeroom time so there were a lot of people in the
hallway. Most of them were looking in our direction.
I took a few breaths trying to calm myself down. I pushed through
people and ran to the bathroom. I don't want Jace catching up
to me. I leaned onto the sink and closed my eyes. When I
first met him I was smitten by him. Now he's just
aggravating. I do really like him, but he's crazy jealous and
I can't deal with that again.
I took a deep breath and pushed open the door walking out. Maybe
I should just skip school. I just need a day to think if I can
really deal with all this.
I got to the back door before I remembered I didn't drive to
school.
"Ugh!" I groaned throwing my hands up in
frusteration.
"What's the matter?" Someone asked from behind
me. I spun around and saw Derek.
"I went to leave and remembered that I didn't drive to
school." I shrugged. I need to get my car fixed as soon as
possible.
"Well, I happen to have driven to school today." He
replied with a smirk.
"Then what are we doing still standing here?" I said
smirking back at him.
"You know Jace is going to kill you right?" He asked as
we were driving away from the school.
"I just need a day away from him." I replied
sighing.
An hour later we were wandering aimlessly around the
mall.
"I want ice cream!" I shouted jumping up and grabbing
his arm.
"Calm down, bunny. I'll get you ice cream." He
chuckled.
"Why do you call me bunny?" I asked raising an eyebrow
at him.
"I don't know. I just do." He shrugged. We
walked up to the ice cream place and ordered our ice cream.
My phone began ringing in my back pocket. I let out a frusterated
grunt and pulled it out.
I grabbed my ice cream cone from the lady as I put my phone up to
my ear.
"Hello." I answered without looking who was
calling.
"Avery, where the he// are you?" Jace growled into the
phone.
"I um, went home sick. Yeah, I wasn't feeling
good." I replied raising my eyebrows to Derek. He just
shrugged his shoulders and continued eating his ice cream
cone.
"No you're not. Derek isn't in school eaither."
He growled into the phone.
"Derek took me. I just wanted to get away from
everything." I sighed.
"You mean you wanted to get away from me."
"Yeah.." I breathed into the phone.
Derek and avery are getting
cozy. That can't be good! Let me know what you guys
think!
