Chapter Two

“What did you just say?” Jason asked, raising an eyebrow.
“You heard me. I said no.” I let it come out of my mouth. I wasn’t going to be his doll
or puppet anymore. I have a mind of my own.
“Haha, you’re so funny. Nice joke. Now be my partner.” Jason said
“No” I said. Now everyone was looking at us, watching us fight.
“Why not?”
“Well because you’re dumb. You only want me to be your partner so you could get
good grades because I’m smart. Everyone knows that.” I yelled at him. I looked around
and saw people nodding in agreement.
“Well then who else could you be with” Jason said, raising his eyebrow again.
“Anyone I want”
“Oh really? Like who”
“You must be even dumber than I thought, I just said it. Anyone” I repeated. I looked
around and all the boys were nodding again.
“Well then go ahead, pick someone. Who are you gonna be with?” Jason asked. I looked
around pretending I need to pick. But I didn’t, I already knew who.
“Ryan” I said. Ryan looked up from his desk, his eyes green sparkling with disbelief. Oh,
how I loved his eyes. And his hair, too.  It was light brown and messy. No gel or anything,
his was naturally cute.
Jason laughed. “Ryan? That little wiener? You’ve got to be kidding me!”
“No, I’m not kidding” I said and walked up to Ryan. “Ryan, will you be my partner?”
Ryan just nodded. He knew that I wouldn’t make him do all the work, since everyone
herd it from the fight that just happened. I sat back down in my seat and the crowd
disappeared, everyone looking for a partner. I saw Jason team up with the girl who was
sitting next to him. She was one of my ‘friends’. Well, she was in the popular group, for all
I know. I think her name was Tiffany.
“Has everyone found a partner?” Ms Leahy asked. I turned my head back to the
front and nodded with everyone else.
“Good” she said, and then explained the project we were going to do. I think it was
something to do with Land or Energy. I don’t know, I wasn’t listening.
 
Lunch. My favourite time of the day, not. I hated every part of the day. I usually tried to
avoid people at lunch, you know, cause I don’t eat and I don’t want anyone knowing
that. This time I was a little late getting out of class, and I saw that there were no
empty tables. I looked for the one with the least people. I certainly wasn’t going to sit
at the popular table. I didn’t really like it, but Jason used to always make me sit there.
This time I couldn’t find him, so I was free to sit anywhere I wanted. I saw a table with
only one person on it. That would work. I walked towards it and as I got closer, I saw
who that person was. It was Ryan. I didn’t want to sit there anymore but I had no choice,
all the other tables were either almost or completely full. I sighed and sat down in front
of Ryan.
“Hi” I said, almost in a whisper.
“Hey” Ryan said as he looked up and smiled. His smile made me get butterflies
and my legs started to wobble. How could a girl not fall or him as easy as I did?
There was an awkward silence for a minute. I really didn’t want to eat even though I
was starving. I managed one bite so that Ryan wouldn’t think I’m weird. I decided to
end the silence.
“What was our project meant to be about? Sorry I wasn’t listening” I said with the last
part almost in a whisper.
“We have to answer some questions about our land and then build a model. Ms
Leahy gave me a copy of the questions.” Ryan said. I had to look away when I heard
his voice. It was too amazing.
“Oh okay. Do you wanna meet up today after school to start working on it?” I asked.
“Sounds cool.  Your place?”
“Sure” I said as I wrote my address on a slip of paper and handed it to him.
“See you at 7” Ryan said and headed off as the bell rang. Was this a study date?
