I turned
18 today.
I still believe Disneyland is the happiest
place on Earth.
I still climb trees.
I still cry when I watch Bambi.
I still dress up in my mom’s jewelry and heels.
I still go down the Barbie aisle at Target.
I still have coloring books and crayons stashed in my
drawers.
I still kiss my mom goodnight.
I still make faces in the mirror.
I still make wishes
I still paint my nails crazy colors.
I still pick my mom flowers from the neighbor’s garden.
I still plan on going to Neverland.
I still play on the monkey bars and slide down the slides.
I still play with chalk.
I still shoot nerf guns.
I still have duels with my sister.
I still do the noodle dance.
I still play with the toys in the doctor’s office.
I still plop myself down in front of the TV and watch Disney
movies.
I still pretend I’m a mermaid while swimming.
I still read Dr. Suess and Winnie the Pooh.
I still sleep with my stuffed animals.
I still slide down the banister.
I still tell knock knock jokes.
I still think the owl delivering my Hogwarts letter got lost.
I still trace my hand and make turkeys.
I still wave to planes as they fly over me.
I still write letters to Santa.
I’m still a hide-and--seek champion.
Yes, I turned 18 today,
but my childhood isn’t over.
