It's actually called TSS, toxic shock syndrome, google it for more information but its just caused by having a tampon in there for too long. If you look on a box of tampons there's information on TSS

Toxic Shock Syndrome, and not everybody can have it. If you leave it in for longer than 8 hours u can get infected, but you only get TSS if you already had it. Just undiagnosed

***also never use a tampon bigger then you need (:3 lol) use the smallest one neccessary to not bleed through and as she said change it often
