"Hold me like this forever," Ashley said to Ryan, tears
streaming down her face. She felt his tears landing on her head.
Deep down, she knew it was over. But of course, she didn't want
it to be.
"I will." Ryan shakily whispered. "I will."
As much as she wanted to believe that, it wasn't possible. In
just 10 minutes, she would be going on the plane to travel across
the world and she would never see him again.
"I'll write you, okay?" Ryan said. "I'll
e-mail you and I'll call you and write you. We can make this
work."
"I won't ever see you again." Ashley said after
hesitating.
"Yes you will. I'll visit you and you'll visit me and
we can make it work. We can."
Ashley's shoulders shrunk and she pushed out of his arms. She
sat 2 feet away from him with on the floor with her legs pulled to
her chest, her face covered by her knees. Ryan crawled towards her
and picked her head up with his finger.
"I have faith in us. I wouldn't regret what happened
between us and the love we felt for each other. I know your
parents are keeping us apart and you think that we weren't
meant to be. But we were. No matter what, we were meant to be. At
some point in our life time, we would fall in love. I can feel it.
Can't you?" He asked. He didn't wait for an answer.
"We were meant to be together. We were meant to fall in love.
I love you like I've never loved anyone else in my whole life.
No one will ever be able to compare with you, because you're
the best thing that's ever happened to me. I love you. I
can't lose you. We will make it through this, okay? We
will."
Ashley turned her head and looked out the small window the shack
had to offer. Ryan put his finger to her cheek and turned her head
to face him.
"I love you." He whispered and kissed her cheek. He
kissed her mouth and he felt her resisting. "Say it
back." He said and looked into her eyes. He kissed her lips
one more time. "Say it back." He repeated.
"I'll never forget you." Ashley said, instead of
saying that she loved him.
The door banged open and Ashley was forced to her feet by her
father, tears streaming down her face.
"I told you never to see him again!" Her father
yelled.
Ashley's world spun around her. Ryan called after her,
"Say it back, Ashley. Say it back!" He searched her eyes
for some sign of love. It was there; it had to be.
Their eyes met one last time, and they watched one another's
half walk away.
Forever.
