Chapter
1.
I walked slowly through the front doors at school. I
stopped for a moment to take in all the new surroundings.
It all felt so new, probably because it was. I still
couldn't get over the fact that I was really in
California. It's such a big jump from New York, I
thought to myself. I missed all my friends back home a
lot. It had been at least two months since we've left,
but it feels like forever. My mom keeps saying that this
will be better for the both of us. I'm just hoping
she's right. I continued walking down the main hallway,
until I finally reached the junior high hallway. I paused
and took a deep breath. "Here goes nothing," I
whispered to myself. I took my first few steps into the
hallway. I could feel eyes following me. I tried my
best to move quickly and avoid eye contact, but obviously I got
too ahead of myself. Before I knew it, I could feel the
cold floor pressed against my back. I quickly stood up only
to realize I had run into someone. "I'm so
sorry!" I quickly blurted out. I could feel my cheeks
getting red. A tall boy with long brown hair looked at
me. "Don't worry about it," he replied
softly, giving me a half smile. "Oh, okay," I
stuttered shyly. "I havn't seen you around
here?" He said acting surprised. "My name
is Josh," he then added. "I'm Emma, we just
moved here a few months ago from New York," I responded
briskley. "Oh, New York?" he said in an amazed
voice. "I bet it was really cool there."
Now I could really feel people starting to stare.
"Yeah, I guess." I said reluctuntly.
"I miss my friends and all, but the whether is nicer here
anyways," I said jokingly. He laughed a little.
"Yeah, I bet," he then replied. "Well i
should probably get going, the bells gonna ring soon," he
then added. "Maybe i'll see you
around?" I smiled. "Yeah." He
gave me a quick smile, then headed for his locker. As I
turned to go to my locker, I saw a few girls looking at me
and whispering. I just ignored them. I reached my
locker and through all my books inside. The lockers here
were much bigger here than they were at my old school. In
fact, the school itself was bigger than my old school. The
bigger the better, I thought hopefully to myself. I moved
my things around in my locker and gathered my things for my first
class, which happened to be social studies. I loaded my
books into my backpack and then smoothed out my dress. The
dress was nothing special, it was just a casual dress. But
it looked really cute with my new black flats. I ran my
fingers through my long silky blonde hair. It was still
warm from when I straightened it this morning. I drug my
fingers under my eyes to get rid of any excess makeup that
might've smeared. I then started off to my first
class. I pulled out my scheduled and started walking
towards room 420. I walked down to the end of the hall and
entered the last room on the right. I took an empty seat
near the back of the classroom. Today, I wouldn't mind
being invisible, I thought to myself.
