I opened my eyes and looked around, unsure as to where I was. I looked from left to right and nothing seemed familiar. I heard some beeping noises that sounded like that heart rate monitor in hospitals.
Oh, that’s it!
I must be in a hospital.
I heard footsteps as a doctor and nurse walked by my room. I could just make out what they said as they stopped in front of my closed door.
“Sir, shouldn’t we check in this room?”
“You know she’s not going to be awake. She’s been in the comma for two and a half years, Lisa.”
Comma? Four years?
Suddenly, everything came rushing back. I screamed at the top of my lungs at the memory of being stabbed and hit and knocked unconscious. Had I really woken up for the first time two and a half years later?
The doctor came rushing in.
“Drew,” he exclaimed. “Nurse, the patient is awake! Call her family!”
My family? I was going to see my family!
