We walked into the mall and hit the shops. First we went to Eileen
Kirby. I found a few dresses I liked, including a light blue silk
dress that came down to about mid thigh, a flowy white one, in silk
again, that had a wavy sequined design on it near the top, a gold
sequined one, and a few others, so we put them on hold. We then
stopped in at DVF. I poked around and tried a few things on, and
Marie did too just for fun. I was having trouble finding things
that made me look good compared to her, because whatever she put on
looked absolutely stunning, and on me it just looked…meh.
She insisted I just had to look at the right styles and colors, but
the cold hard truth is that Marie is just prettier than me. We
didn’t see anything of particular interest there, so we
headed to Matthew Williamson. We got there, but most of it was
above my price limit, so we left.
We walked into Karen Miller, and they were having a sale. I looked
around and I found a really nice satin pink dress. It was a nice
dress, but not good enough for me.
I wasn’t very pleased with what I had found this shopping
trip. I wanted a nice dark green dress, but it wasn’t looking
like I would find what I wanted… at that point I was
thinking maybe I would have to settle for less than my dream dress.
I guess the disappointment showed on my face, cause Marie looked at
me and said, "Hey, don't worry, we'll find just the
right one."
"Ok.” I sighed. We walked into Alice and Olivia, and I
liked what I saw immediately! I left Marie in the shoe isle and
went up to a salesclerk whose name tag said “Lisa” on
it.
“Do you have anything in petite sizes that’s dark
green?” I asked her.
“Of course honey! Follow me y’all!” Lisa drawled
out in her southern accent. “So what’s the
occasion?” she asked heading towards a rack.
“Well, my school semi is coming u-”
“Ooh!” she squealed, “Are y’all going with
your boyfraaand?”
“Well-well yeah…” I stuttered, blushing.
“Oh, these dresses are too plain!” she gushed,
“We need to find y’all somethin’ simply
gorgeous!”
Lisa ushered me over to a different part of the store. “Here,
these just came in! Y’all look through these and if you need
any help or want a changing room, you just call me on ovah
sugahpie!” She trotted away, her heels clicking on the tiles.
Wow, I thought going through the dresses. Talk about
enthusiasm… I was going through the rack fairly
quickly, until some wispy material caught on my fingertips. I
looked down and I saw a dark green dress that I loved right
away.
“You find anything?” Marie materialized behind my
shoulder.
“Yeah…” I said, awestruck. My dress was just the
dark green color I was looking for, and it was magnificently
unique. It tied at the shoulder, and it was loose, with the
material laying in folds all down the body.
“Oh, Scarlett!” Marie exclaimed as she set eyes on my
dress, “It’s perfect!”
“Yeah…”
“Should we get a changing room?”
“Yeah…”
“Ok, come with me.” She grabbed my shoulder in one hand
and the dress in the other and guided me over to a clerk.
“You going to try that on, honeybun?” Lisa’s
annoying drawl snapped me back into the present.
“Um…yes please.”
“Right this way, y’all!” she babbled leading us
over to yet another section of the store. I hopped into the
changing room, pulled off my converse, jeans and shirt and slipped
the dress on. After staring at myself in the mirror, dumbstruck,
for three minutes Marie tapped on the door lightly.
“Scarlett, hun? Can I see it?” I walked out of the
changing room.
“Oh Scarlett!” Marie said, her eye’s twinkling,
“It’s perfect!”
“Oh, y’all look RAVASHING,” Lisa chattered.
“We’ll take it! Wait- how much is it?”
“Three hundred,” I said, checking the tag.
“Yes, we’ll take it!”
“Oh, ain’t that just the cutest lil’
thang?” Lisa jabbered. “Y’all look cute as a
button!” So I changed back into my clothes, Lisa rang us up,
wrapped the dress up and we paid and left.
“Wow, what a nightmare!” Marie choked out after we were
a safe distance away from Alice and Olivia. We both cracked up.
“Ok, let’s go get some shoes to go with that
masterpiece!” We headed over to Saks to look for shoes. I
found some subtly glittery sandals I liked that were so high I
would be about as tall as Chris wearing them, but they were way
over my price limit.
“These,” I said pointing to them.
“But they’re one thousa-” Marie started. I held
up my hand right in front of her face, shushing her, and whipped
out my cell. I speed dialed my mom.
“Mommy?”
“Yes sweetie?”
“I’m at Saks looking at shoes for semi. But the ones I
want are one thousand.”
“Just put it on the credit card I gave you for emergencies.
There’s five thousand on there.”
“Ok, thanks mommy! I love you!”
“Love you too, sweetheart. Have fun at semi!”
We hung up. I gave Marie a smug smile. We paid for the shoes and
left. We went back to the previous stores and took all the other
dresses off hold.
“Well, that was fun!” Marie said as we climbed back
into the car. “And it’s only five! We should be back to
SA by seven.” We took off, music blasting, both of us
singing. It was a great shopping trip. The semi was in two days, so
I would have to get a great hiding place for my dress and shoes.
Oh, I know! Marilyn’s! I couldn’t hide it at
Anna’s because Chaise might find it.
“Hey, do you want to stay for dinner?” I asked Marie as
we pulled into SA two hours later.
“Oh, I would love but I gotta hit the road, sweetie. Tell
Chris I love him! By Scar!” She leaned over and we kissed
each other’s cheeks. I hopped out and dialed Marilyn’s
number.
“Hey Scarlett! 'Sup?”
“Hey, I just went shopping for my semi dress and shoes. Can I
hide them at your place? I don’t want Chris to find
them.”
“Only if you put it all on for meee! And Anna’s coming
over too.”
“Ok, thanks a billion!”
“Yep. Byebye!”
“Bye.” I hung up and walked over to
Marilyn’s.
