The
Truth Behind a Smile #28
I
didn't know what to do. My dad was in the kitchen crashing around,
doing what, I'm not quite sure. I heard pots and pans clang around,
him swearing. I was, on the other hand, locked up in my room.
But don't worry, I locked it..from the inside so I have a way
of getting out. There was a pounding on my door and I meekly opened
it. My dad rushed into the room. I held my breath.
"Macy, you're breaking up with Matt. I've thought about
it-"
"By punching the living daylights out of me?" I mumbled.
Obviously my dad heard it, though I didnt mean for him to, but he
didn't react. He kept staring at the wall.
"I think you'd be better off without him."
"And you know this how?"
"We're different, Macy-"
"I get that! Matt's mom said the same thing but sometimes,
Dad, different is good!"
"Not in this situation and I'm trying to keep you
safe!"
"How? You promised me that you'd stop drinking and you'd get a
job but I knew it wouldn't last! And guess what, I was right!
Is keeping safe punching me?"
"You have no idea."
"Then tell me. I'd like to know why i've suddenly been getting
beaten!" My dad spun around and glared at me deathly. I did
not shy away.
"That is none of your business. The job didn't work out and I
covered the pain with alcohol. It's easy to understand!"
"No it isn't. I dont understand why you're throwing your life
away! It's plain stupid!"
"The point remains the same...you're breaking up with Matt or
Matt won't be around much longer." My dad casually strode out
of my room, leaving his threat sitting in the air. I gulped. Was it
better for me to keep Matt's life in danger or keep my
happiness?
