BYE!<3
This is my goodbye to Witty! I'm sorry for stopping my story in the middle but use your imagination to come up with your own ending. Or if you want, you may take my story (but change it in some ways) and finish it on your own. I really don't care. But I've lost the inspiration to write cause i'm working on something much better. Thanks to some people who've been there for me since the beginning. I love you all.

The Truth Behind a Smile #28
I didn't know what to do. My dad was in the kitchen crashing around, doing what, I'm not quite sure. I heard pots and pans clang around, him swearing. I was, on the other hand, locked up in my room. But don't worry, I locked it..from the inside so I have a way of getting out. There was a pounding on my door and I meekly opened it. My dad rushed into the room. I held my breath.
"Macy, you're breaking up with Matt. I've thought about it-"
"By punching the living daylights out of me?" I mumbled. Obviously my dad heard it, though I didnt mean for him to, but he didn't react. He kept staring at the wall.
"I think you'd be better off without him."
    "And you know this how?"
    "We're different, Macy-"
"I get that! Matt's mom said the same thing but sometimes, Dad, different is good!"
"Not in this situation and I'm trying to keep you safe!"
"How? You promised me that you'd stop drinking and you'd get a job but I knew it wouldn't last! And guess what, I was right! Is keeping safe punching me?"
    "You have no idea."
"Then tell me. I'd like to know why i've suddenly been getting beaten!" My dad spun around and glared at me deathly. I did not shy away.
"That is none of your business. The job didn't work out and I covered the pain with alcohol. It's easy to understand!"
"No it isn't. I dont understand why you're throwing your life away! It's plain stupid!"
"The point remains the same...you're breaking up with Matt or Matt won't be around much longer." My dad casually strode out of my room, leaving his threat sitting in the air. I gulped. Was it better for me to keep Matt's life in danger or keep my happiness?

    "Let's watch a movie," I suggested.
    "Of course."
    "You don't want to?"
"Anything so I can be with you." I smiled. Matt sat down and pulled me onto his lap. Matt started playing The Blind Side. I knew Matt wasn't paying much attention but I tried to. Tried to. I was too self conscious. Matt, I knew, was only staring at me. Thankfully he couldn't see my face. But eventually my mind drifted away and I fell asleep in his arms. However long later, I felt a shake.
"Wake up, Macy." I groaned and reluctantly opened my eyes.
"What time is it?" I mumbled.
"2 a.m." I jumped up, suddenly wide awake. Unless my dad was drunk and had passed out, he'd be up and waiting for me. Oh crap oh crap OH CRAP! I was dead, though I hoped not literally.
    "I have to go!"
    "Why, baby?"
"Matt, my dad's already gonna pound me into the ground!" I rapidly started searching for my keys but I couldn't find them. I glanced at my phone...50 unread texts. I opened one. BIG MISTAKE...
Macy, where the heck are you? Get your butt home NOW or you'll be dead. I mean it!
    "Matt, where are my keys?"
"Macy, stay for the night. It's not safe to drive this early or late in the morning."
    "I have to get home."
    "I'll drive you then."
"I have my own car. Now where are my freakin keys?!" I shouted.
"In the kitchen. Gosh, calm down. I did not know you got so hyper active and controlling at night." Matt quickly retrieved my keys for me and I headed out. I immediately texted my dad saying I was coming home. Too bad for me I didn't remember what my excuse was. I slowly opened the door and I felt a blow to my cheek, the same one the got bruised before. I saw stars flash before me. I felt another kick to the stomach, again the same place as last time. My dad has some pretty good aim.
"HOW DARE YOU?! I TEXTED YOU 50 TIMES AND STAYED UP BUT YOU NEVER SHOWED! DO YOU HONESTLY KNOW HOW THAT FEELS?! YOU COULD'VE DEAD FOR ALL I KNEW!"
"Sorry, I fell asleep by accident."
"Where? I think you said you were at the library or going shopping. Did you fall asleep on one of those mattresses at the mattress store cause i'm pretty sure they don't allow that. You would've been arrested."
"No, Dad, I was at Matt's. I accidentally fell asleep and so did he."
    "Not on each other hope."
"No," I lied. I received another punch to the face for that one. I heard a little crack coming from my nose and then a warm sensation. But I was too out of it already. I felt one more kick to the shins before everything faded from focus. Something was severely from with my dad. And I knew it had nothing to do with me dating Matt. It was something else, something I needed to find out.

The Truth Behind a Smile #26
School ended and I ran as fast as I could out of the building. With my hand covering my cheek of course. I had successfully avoided Matt all day, hiding in the bathroom for lunch. I slammed my car door shut and tore out of the parking lot. I pulled into my driveway and went inside quietly. I hoped my dad wouldn't notice me. But then my cell rang. Oh crap. If my dad was sleeping, and was drunk, he'd kill me right about now. I answered and went to my room for some privacy.
    "Hello?"
    "Macy, it's Matt."
    "Oh, um, hi."
"Wanna come over again? Watch a movie or something?"
"If this is your sneaky way to find out what happened to my face, I fell okay?"
"I believe you." Wait, what did he just say? He believed me? But i was lying. So now I'm suddenly feeling guilty about lying. But why? We shared one day together that started perfect, turned horrible, changed to beautiful, and then ended in the worst way possible. That was a rollercoaster day. So how could he still love if i lied? Oh wait, he didn't know that.
"Um, yeah sure. When you want me over?"
"ASAP." And then he hung up. I smiled involuntarily. Maybe there was a chance that Matt really did love me. Love me or not, I left a note to my dad, saying i was at the library and would be out for awhile so don't worry, and the went to Matt's. The whole ride there I had butterflies. Would he kiss me again? I found myself wanting him to. I rang the doorbell and Matt immediately answered. Instantly he wrapped his arms around me and spun me around. When he put me down, he kept my hand and led me inside.
"So its your choice, what shall we do? It's Friday-"
    "IT'S FRIDAY???????!!!!!!!" I shrieked.
"Yes it is, so that means we've got the whole night." I noticed that Matt didn't see the ginormous bruise on my cheek, he only saw me. He saw the sparkles in my eyes, the way my skin was glowing. And for the first time in my entire life, I felt beautiful.
Sorry to make you wait and sorry it's so short! Been busy lately w/ homework and crap so don't be surprised if i only write on weekends until June 10 (when i get outta school) Thanks for the support guys, it really means alot to me! Love ya and keep reading!

The Truth Behind a Smile #25
I didn't know how to disguise the fact that i had a dark black purple lump on the side of my face. I could, at least, cover up the bruise on my stomach. When I woke up this morning, my cheek hurt even worse than last night and same with my stomach. I kept a hand over my face as i walked into the school building.
"Hey, loser, what's that thing on your face?" Allie asked me. She had to pick now to annoy me to death. Now when i had a lump on my cheek. Why oh why now?
"I fell okay? I fell down the stairs and hit my face on the wall." Sounded reasonable right? Not that i even have many stairs to fall down but hey, she didn't need to know that.
    "Someone's gettin clumsy."
"Can i get to class? Thanks." I said pushing Allie out of my way. I walked straight into Matt, though.
"About yesterday..." Matt trailed off seeing Allie there behind me. He took my hand and whisked me away to a deserted, or where there weren't as many students roaming around, hallway.
"Matt it's fine." I said still keeping my eyes on my feet and my free hand on my face.
"No it isn't you didn't need to hear my mom say those cruel things."
"I had to expect it would come eventually, though. I mean, why have you never asked about my family? Did you know about my dad? Because your mom seems to have all the answers."
"Macy, I don't care if your dad's a drunk and if you take after him-"
    "I dont, trust me."
"Good, but i'd still love you the same. And why won't you take your hand off your face?" My stomach dropped.
    "Nothing. It's nothing," I lied.
"Take your hand off." I shook my head causing my cheek to throb a bit. The swelling had only worsened over night.
"Come on Macy, no one's gonna see."
    "You will," I whispered.
"I wont laugh if it's a huge zit." I wish it could be but it's ten times more noticable than a tiny zit since the lump takes up half of my cheek. More like all of it, I corrected mentally.
"Fine." I slowly uncovered my cheek and I heard Matt gasp loudly.
    "What happened?"
"I fell." The lie came quickly and easy as it had been with Allie.
"You could not do that as bad as you did by falling. What happened?"
    "Nothing, I'm fine okay?"
    "You can trust me, Macy."
"I fell," I said again. And then i left him standing there, hand raised in the air for something i don't know. I re-covered my cheek and walked away not caring about him one bit. He did not need to know the truth. He was not my boyfriend and I think i'll be avoiding him so i can also avoid more punches. Matt only kissed me once and who cares if i want to kiss him again? I'm a senior and he'll be going to college and who knows what'll happen to me? Matt'll forget me in a instant, forgetting that something sparked between us one day. I mean it was only one day right?

The Truth Behind a Smile #24
All i could feel was pain in my cheek. I slowly opened my eyes and i found myself in the bathroom with the door closed. I groaned. Why had my dad reacted so horribly to the fact that i loved Matt? I mean, I've had many other boyfriends (they were all pathetic, needy, losers) and when i find one i truly care about? He freaks out dramatically. I sat up. I gently touched my cheek. I hoped it wasn't swollen but when i checked in the mirror, my hopes were obviously not granted. I had a humongous black and purple lump on my cheek. My dad definitely hit me hard enough. Sadly for him, though, it didn't knock any sense into me. I went to the door and tried opening it. Locked, the door was locked. I slammed my fists against it as hard as i could while I ignored the hot, burning sensation in my cheek.
"Macy, would you be so kind as to stop? I have a huge headache." Yeah, well i have a huge cheekache, I thought. Mine hurts worse i bet. Then i remember my dad had been drunk. I was correct, I knew he would break his "sober streak" eventually.
"Dad, please let me out. I have homework!"
"Have you learned your lesson yet? You do not and will not love Matt Wiersma. He and his mom are goodie-goodies. They don't an ounce about other people, only themselves. Got it?"
"Yes," I squeaked. I only lied so i could get out of the dump I call a bathroom. I heard a click and the door was open.
"Stay in your room. I don't wanna see your face again."
    "What about school tomorrow?"
    "I'll be sleeping."
    "Your job?"
"I SAID GO TO YOUR ROOM, GIRL! NOW DO WHAT I SAY OR YOU'LL REGRET IT!" Where was my dad? The one who cared overprotectively about me? I want him back. Not this drunken rotten guy who yells at me a volume higher than last time. I sprinted up to my room, my cheek throbbing. I needed some ice. I decided to chance it but i made sure to wait half an hour. I opened my door without a squeak and crept down the stairs. I heard the TV blaring. That was a good sign. I saw the icebox a coupe yards away from me. I slowly opened the freezer and grabbed a bag of ice. Don't ask me why there was a random bag of ice in the freezer when we barely had anything else. That's when i heard the stomping behind me.
"Macy? I thought i told you to stay in your room. I made that perfectly clear didn't I?" I turned around and instantly doubled over in pain. A kick to the stomach.
"If that doesn't teach you, I dont know what will." I smelled the heavy stench of alcohol on my dad as i passed him, bent over. I could feel a pattern coming on.

The Truth Behind a Smile #23
My mouth fell wide open. Did Matt just say that he loved me and didnt care? But he didn't even know the full story... Well if i looked shocked then it was nothing compared to Matt's mom. Her face was red going on purple with anger.
"Never say that again Matt Wiersma! Never! You do not love this girl."
"For the last time, she has a name!"
"And i don't care. You don't love this thing and you will never see her again. Or talk to her. We're a good family and that wont be ruined."
"Bye, Matt." I looked at my feet and ran away. This was too much for me. His mom didn't know me. She only knew my father and of course she thought i was just like him, meaning that i also heavily drank. Which wasn't true, I had no interest in those things. I wanted a successful future, which by the looks of things, was not going to happen.
"Macy, wait up!" I stopped and turned around. Matt was running right towards me.
    "Yes?"
    "I'll see you tomorrow."
"Bye." Then Matt leaned in and kissed me. I lost thought of everything around me. No matter how much i wanted to deny things, I was in love with Matt. But i pulled away and drove back to my house.
"That you Macy?" my dad called when i stepped inside.
"Yep, it's me." I smiled happily. A beautiful ending to a treacherous day.
    "Where ya been?"
    "At Matt's house, Matt Wiersma."
    "Macy-"
"Don't start about he's all rich and better than us, no Dad. His mom already told us that! I don't need it from you too. The fact is that i don't care about how rich and better than he is than us, Dad, because I, I-"
"Do not say it! Don't say that love him!"
"But I do! I really do!" My dad's face turned dark purple, almost like Matt's mom's face did, except this was ten times scarier. I saw fury spread across my dad and he started saying that.
"You don't!" And then i felt something hard connect with my cheek and everything collapsed into darkness. My dad had been drunk.

When i say unthinkable, i mean really unthinkable. Never in a lifetime would i have expected this to happen.
"What are you thinking, Matt?" someone screamed from behind me. Matt and i jumped apart. I heard a gate click shut. I turned around and running straight towards us was Matt's mom.
"Were you actually thinking of kissing her?" his mom asked. The way she said her was the someone would talk about vomit or a bug. Not a person. My face flushed beet red.
"Is that a bad thing?" Matt said.
    "That's a horrible thing! She's a- she's a-"
"Mom, she has a name!" I had a feeling i knew what Matt's mom was about to say. And after Matt found out, everything would be over between us and he'd regret ever trying to kiss me. Or even wanting to.
"Do you know anything about her?" I squeezed my eyes shut. "Did she tell you anything about her family?"
    "No, not really!"
"Then i can see why you'd think of kissing her! This, this filthy girl."
"What did you just call Macy?"
"I never want you seeing her again." I wanted to be anywhere but here.
"What'd she ever do to you?"
"Matt, people like us and people like her don't belong in the same world."
    "What are people like her?"
"Drunks." I opened my eyes again. "And she's too scared to admit that." Matt looked at me with confusion plain on his face. And then he said the one thing i had never dreamed of anyone saying.
"I dont care, Mom. I'm in love with her."

I grabbed a towel Matt had laid out for me and wrapped it around myself. I sat down on a sunchair and closed my eyes.
"Please tell me you're not gonna tan," Matt said.
"I'm not going to tan, I'm going to dry off."
"Good." I wasn't sure why this was a good thing but whatever.
"So you're just gonna lay there?" he asked me.
    "I dont have to."
"Then come on, let's go do something else."
"Like what?" I stood up. I was still dripping wet.
"Well first put your dry clothes on and i'll put mine on. Then meet me in the kitchen."
    "And where might that be?"
"Just go up the stairs." I went inside and into the bathroom. I dried myself off more and put on my shorts and T-shirt. My hair would have to stay in the messy disaster it was in. I looked for the stairs to the kitchen. But this was one huge basement. I walked back and forth. Then Matt came down.
"Since you were taking so long I decided to help you." I saw the stairs. Obviously i was blind. I followed him up to the kitchen. I saw the cabinets and cupboards stocked with food. Matt opened one and reached up and grabbed a bag of cookies.
    "What are we doing?"
    "Going outside on the swings."
    "You're kidding right?"
"Nope, not at all. Come on." He held my hand and ran down to the swingset that looked like it should be for a 2 year old. Not 17 year olds. I sat down on a swing.
"And what made you want to bring me on a swing?"
"It's fun," Matt replied. He sat on a swing across from mine. Matt started pumping his legs so i did the same. It was starting to head towards 6. I wanted to get home early so i could finish up some homework. I wanted to start doing better in school. I took a chance, for me at least, and jumped off. Perfect landing, i thought to myself. Matt jumped off as well.
"I have to go. I dont want my dad calling the police on me." Matt laughed.
"Okay, i'll text you later." I smiled. Matt started walking towards me. He put his hands on my arms. I found myself moving closer to him and i put my arms around his neck and he moved his arms around my waist and the unthinkable happened.

The Truth Behind a Smile #20 (this is the correct part, srry for the mess-up guys)
I ran upstairs to get my bathing suit. I found it under my bed... I misplace things a lot. I rushed downstairs, in a hurry to get to Matt's. I kept wondering the rest of the day what he had been about to say. If i hadn't shoved him would he have told me?
"Macy, where are you going?" my dad asked me. I jumped, not knowing he was there. Shouldn't he be at work? I let it go, though something in my head told me something wasn't right.
"Im going to a friend's house. I'll be back by nine." I opened the door.
"You came home around 11 last night."
    "I know that."
    "Don't you have homework?"
"STOP BEING THE FREAKIN CARING PARENT ALREADY! IM SICK OF IT! LEAVE ME ALONE!" I shrieked. My dad looked somewhat offended but i ignored him and ran outside. I sped out of the driveway and went to Matt's. I shut off the engine and went to the door and rang the doorbell. Hopefully Matt could hear me. I rang it again and Matt opened it this time.
    "Hey," I said. "What's up?"
"Been waiting for you to come." Matt was staring straight into my eyes and it kind of freaked me out. I didn't meet his stare. I'm not used to that kind of thing. That seems more...lovey dovey. And we're just friends.
"Oh, well i'm here now," I said, not knowing what else to say. Matt smiled. He took my arm and led me outside. I felt chills go up and down my arm. Is that some sort of sign or something? It was a really hot and humid day out, a great day for swimming. Or being somewhere cool. And my house didn't have air conditioning sadly. Matt slid his shirt off and i gasped. I didn't see it last night since it was pitch black. But gosh, he was jacked.
    "I'm gonna, um, go change."
"Kay." I had to get away from him. Something was happening between us. But i wasn't sure. I mean, if we were good friends, you'd think he'd tell me what he'd been about to say right? I couldnt stop coming back to that. It had to be important. I slipped inside. I watched through the curtains where he couldn't see me. I watched him do a perfect dive into the water with barely a splash. I watched the way his shaggy hair fell over his eyes. Things i'd never noticed before. This couldn't be good, could not be good. I slapped myself. He's your friend. Nothing else, I kept telling myself. I found the bathroom. As quickly as possible, I put on my bathing suit, which happened to be tankini. Bikinis were too disgusting and over-rated. That's my opinion though. I walked outside and to the diving board. I did a running jump into the pool, not caring about grace or anything. And i began to slowly forget everything that had bothered me before.
-Sorry its taken so long to write before! I couldn't think of what to write so i bet you'd understand other writers out there on witty!

As i was gathering my book for 5th the next day, Allie comes up to me.
"So, do you have a date to the Spring Festival?" she asked me.
"No, I'm not going. Dances aren't really my thing." I didnt have the money to buy a decent dress anyway.
    "That's depressing."
    "No, not exactly."
    "Cause Matt already asked me."
"By force probably," i mumbled to myself.
    "What was that?"
    "Nothing."
"I should get to class. Bye!" Allie danced away. I rolled my eyes at the back of her head and went to my class as well. I didn't believe her when she said Matt was her date. He would've told me. And i dont even remember him saying anything about going to the Festival. Technically, it wasn't even a festival it was a dance. 5th period flew by and i went to the cafeteria. I found Matt sitting alone at a table and i sat down next to him. As usual, he split his lunch with me.
    "Hey Macy."
"Hey." I wasn't worried about the Allie thing so i stopped thinking about it, knowing he'd tell me if he wanted to.
"So you wanna hang out again today after school lets out?" Matt said.
"As long as you dont push me into the pool and then lock me outside, then sure, i'd love to."
"I won't i swear. But you might wanna bring your bathing suit this time.
"Kay, i'll pick it up at my house first."
    "Macy?"
"Yeah?" Matt was silent for a little while.
"Nevermind actually." I really hate when people do that. Not that it happens often but it seemed like he was going to ask something important. I shoved him hard.
"Come on tell me. That is so not fair and you know it!"
"It doesn't matter." Matt got up and walked away. Was what he had been about to say been important? Guess i wouldnt be finding out.

The Truth Behind a Smile #17 (i've been having number issues so srry. this is number 17 so count down from there.)
"Get back here, Matt!" I chased after him but he was already inside. I tried opening the door, but it was locker. I smalled my fists against it, trying to tell Matt i was still outside. And i was shivering. Matt stared at me with a smirk.
    "Open tihs door right now!"
    "I dont know..."
"Seriously, Matt. This isn't funny. Now let me in." I was shaking violently and me teeth kept chattering together. Matt must've noticed this because he finally let me in.
"Calm down, Macy. No need to get all worked up."
"If you had let me in when i asked, I wouldn't be all worked up. And now thanks to you, I have no dry clothes."
"But i do. THey're gonna be big, but hey, it's better than nothing right And do you wanna take a shower or something to warm up?"
"Yes!" Matt led me to his room, grabbed some clothes for me and showed me where the bathroom was. I turned on the water as hot as it could go and stepped in. The water felt amazing! I was pretty mcuh warmed up by the time i was finished. I put Matt's clothes on. They were a bit big but they stayed on. Quickly, i inhaled the scent of him. I can't define it right, but sum it up, Matt smelled insanely good. I hope that doesn't sound too too weird. But it's true. I put his sweatshirt around my shoulders and went to find Matt. Thankfullyhe was waiting for me down the hall so i wouldn't have to search for him.
"Well thanks for tonight. And the clothes."
"Anytime. But do you want me to put your clothes in the dryer? I can give them back tomorrow."
"Yeah, sure. That would helpful." I didn't say it would be helpful cause i didn't own a dryer. I usually had to go to the local Laundromat which wasn't fun since i never had enough quarters to pay for the dryer. So instead I had to hang up the clothes outside.
    "I'll put them in later."
"I should get going before my dad freaks out." He had called like 50 times. So i quickly texted him, letting him know i was coming home.
"Yeah okay bye. See ya tomorrow." I waved good-bye.
    "Hey Matt?"
    "Yeah?"
"Could you show me where the door is? I really don't wanna get lost in your house." Matt tried not to laugh, but failed.
"Sure, Macy." He showed me the door and said bye once more. I started my car and pulled out of the driveway. Tonight had been the best I've had in forever.

I wanted to scream with joy. Matt was right, swimming in pitch black was amazing. Beyond amazing, actually. You couldnt see where you were going and everything look mysterious in the moonlight.
"When do your parents get home?" I asked Matt. I had no idea what time it was.
"Well let's see. It's 9:30 right now so they get back in an hour. They're very seriously about their jobs."
    "You're alone this whole time?"
"Pretty much." Alone in a house, no correction, mansion this size for like eight hours?
"Anways, let's have a splash contest?" Matt said.
"A what?" Would anyone like to clarify for me what a splash contest is?
"You jump off the diving board and try to make the biggest splash."
"What if we're not able to see the splash?"
"You feel it." This just kept sounding crazier and crazier.
"No thanks. I'm already wet enough."
    "Suck it up, Macy."
"Ugh, fine!" Matt and I climbed out of the water.
"Stand on the side and when i jump in, tell me if you get wet. That means my splash was big." I started giggling and then all out laughing. This splash contest thing seemed ridiculous. Matt did a huge cannonball. He had to have gone fifty feet up in the air. Just kidding about the fifty part, though. But he did no pretty high. And i got drowned.
"Yeah, i'd say that splash was huge."
"I'm an expert." I walked to the diving board. I ran up to the edge and did a cannonball as well. Except my splash was like twice as small as Matt's had been.
"You so totally lose!" Matt said, when i resurfaced.
"Thanks very much,"I said sarcastically. "But i think i'm done. I'm freezing."
    "One more jump?"
"Fine whatever." I thought he was going to jump off the diving board...Instead, while i was turned around he came running up to me and pushed me in.
"No you didnt! You did not just do that!"
"Yes, yes i think i did just do that. I pushed you in, whatcha gonna do about it?" I got out of the water and sprinted as fast as i could towards him. He was going to pay for that!

The oven beeped saying that our pizzas were ready. Matt made 3 so he obviously thought i would eat at least 2 of them. I think he gets what the word starving means now. But me eating 2 pizzas? By myself? There's something to dream about at night.
"I hope they taste good. My mom buys the pizza with organic cheese."
    "So you tell me now?!"
"You obviously dont know how to take a joke."
    "That's just mean Matt."
"No it really isnt. You just dont know how to take a joke." I glared at him but went back to eating my pizza. It tasted..heavenly. Scrumptious. In about tenish minutes i had already eaten 1 pizza. In my defense, though, i havent eaten in ages. Unless i feel like eating moldy bread or cheese. Trust me, that's not all we have foodwise. When we both were finished eating, Matt wanted to beat me in more air hockey.
    "No!"
    "Aw come on Macy!"
"You just wanna brag about it and rub it in my face about how much i stink. There's got to be something else to do in this gigantic house of yours."
    "Come with me."
    "I dont trust you."
    "Wanna go swimming?"
"You do realize it's pitch black out right now?" Matt nodded and started making a puppy face.
    "So? It'll be fun."
"I dont have a bathing suit."
"You have clothes on." I giggled.
"The only clothes that are dry." But i eventually let him drag me outside. Pulling me into his arms, we jumped into the pool together.

I pulled into Matt's driveway. And what i saw there, amazed me. I bet my house could fit into his house at least fifty times and my house is an average size. But Matt's house was also beautiful. I walked up to the door and rang the doorbell.
    "Macy."
"Hey." I stepped in and i was amazed all over again. I cant even begin to explain. The floors were made of hardwood flooring that shined. The furniture had to cost a fortune.
"Wow, your house is amazing." I was ashamed of the pig pen that i called home.
"Thanks. The gameroom is down here." I followed Matt down hallways and some stairs. A person could get lost in his house. Matt started up the air hockey machine and we began to play. I hadnt improved much from the last time. He beat three times in a row when my dad called.
"Hold on a sec, Matt. I should take this." Even though i dont want to i added in my head.
    "Hello?"
    "And where might you be?"
"Im at a friend's house. I'll be back in an hour or so." And then i hung up. But my dad called again.
    "What?"
    "Be back in ten minutes."
"No." And i hung up again.
    "Everything okay, Macy?" Matt asked.
"Oh yeah, my dad wanted to know when i was coming home. So i said an hour."
"Do you want to stay for dinner? My parents dont come home for another couple hours."
"Yeah sure." I texted my dad telling him. He never responded. Matt and I played a couple more games of air hockey, in which i won one game. But I could tell Matt let me win.
"So what do you want for dinner? We could order out or find something in the fridge."
    "Doesnt matter."
"Your the guest, you can pick."
"Do you know how much i hate being put on the spot like this?" Matt just laughed.
"Fine, I'll heat up some pizza."
"You are much better at deciding than i am." Plus, I dont have much of a decision to make when it comes to eating. It's either nothing or something i can scrounge up.
    "How hungry are you?"
    "Starving.
"So you'll be eating a lot?"
"I think that's what starving means, Matt."

Back to school. The weekend, except for Friday, had been a blur of boringness. Matt didnt contact me again. I was on my way to school. For once, i was actually kinda happy about going. I wanted to see Matt again and please dont think i'm in love with him cause that is definitely not the case. I entered the building and walked to my locker. So far no sign of Allie, who would usually have tracked me down/stalked me by now.
"Hey Macy." I jumped. Matt was leaning against a locker right next to me.
"Hey. Um, how was your weekend?"
"Amazing." Lucky him. My weekend had dragged on and on. My dad was constantly watching TV and drinking the remainder of beer he had found in the fridge. I had forgotten to pour them down the sink. Dont ask.
"Oh cool. Well i should get to class. I dont wanna be tardy again."
    "Yeah. See ya later."
"Not so fast Carter." I spun around. What the crap? Allie was literally standing two inches from me.
"Seriously Allie, stop stalking me." I could've sworn she was about to punch me hard in the face. I saw it coming but it never happened.
"Girls, girls. No fighting. You of all people should know that, Allie," the principal butted in. I went to class. How could she find me so fast and know exactly where i was? Westminster was a smaller school but it had hundreds of people in it. Class was beyond boring. And i didnt even try to listen.
    * * * * * * *
I was stuck at home doing homework. A first, i know. But Matt had gone out with his other, more popular friends, which included Allie. I knew she'd take advantage of the chance that i wasnt there and overly flirt with him. I guess you could say i was jealous. Just in a different way. If there actually is a different way to be jealous. I wanted to be anywhere but here at my house. I couldnt understand anything fo my homework. It didnt make any sense whatsoever. And i was home alone. My dad was at work.
Allie is annoying the crap outta me. Matt had texted me.
    That sucks...a ton.
She keeps trying to get me to go somewhere else alone with her.
    I'm guessing you're saying no?
Definitely. I dont wanna go anywhere with her. Anyways, whatcha doin?
    Homework..
    Wow, that's a first..no offense.
Haha i know. But there's nothing else to do.
You could come to my place. I have to beat you in more air hockey.
It's on(: Be at ur house in 10 minutes.

"Macy?" I had finally stopped crying and was silent. I didnt want to face Matt.
"I'm sorry. For whatever I did."
"It's not you. It's just, my dad has been, um, really harsh lately."
"Do you still wanna go to the movie? We can skip dinner."
"No that's fine. We can do both. I'd rather forget this ever happened." Matt started the car again and 5 minutes later we arrived at the shopping plaza. I hopped out and joined Matt.
"Table for two," Matt said to the waitress.
"Right this way." We followed her and she sat us down and we ordered our drinks.
"So Macy, what's your favorite color?" I laughed.
    "Light blue."
"Wow, same here! And what's your favorite sport?"
"I dont have one. I've never played sports before."
"You still must have a favorite sport. Otherwise, you're very unAmerican."
"I'm unAmerican? You're the one obssessed with football!"
"Well football is a classic sport that all of Florida loves!"
"I think soccer is the bigger sport here in Florida."
"Wrong. But what's your favorite movie?"
"What's with all the questions? Am i like under trial?"
"No, I just wanna get to know you more." Finally, our drinks and food arrived. I started eating, thankful for the distraction from questions. After awhile, we both finished eating and Matt payed the bill.
"Ready to go see a movie?"
"As long as it doesnt involve 20 questions." Matt smiled. We started walking toward the movie theater.
"So what movie do you wanna see?"
"I dont care. Whatever you want. Just as long as it isnt any R rated movie. I cant handle those."
"Fine I'll surprise you." I shrugged but deep down i was worried. He got us two tickets to a movie i had clue the title of.

It had been an incredibly unforgettable night. Matt had just driven me home. It was 11:00 and the house was silent except for my dad's deep breathing on the couch. I snuck up to my room and changed. Whatever movie Matt had taken me to (he still wouldnt tell me the name) had been amazing. He had even hugged me good-bye. Which might sound incredibly stupid since most guys would kiss a girl after their "date" but we were only friends. And i was happy about that. Tonight had been definitely more than amazing. Even though i had started out by crying, that was all forgotten. And Matt, to my surprise, didnt even ask what had happened. To that, i was even more thankful. I smiled and as i drifted off to sleep.

I was speechless. Matt, i'm pretty sure, just asked me on a date. But as friends. So a friend date.
"Yeah, i'd love to." Matt smiled.
"Okay, I'll pick you up at five and we'll go to dinner and a movie."
"I'll make to sure to be ready." That sounded stupid. Lame too. We both just stood there until the bell rang. I raced to my locker. I was tardy. Hopefully the teacher wouldnt notice.
"Miss Connors, why would you just happen to be late getting to class?"
"I, um, had to go to the bathroom." I prayed i looked convincing.
"Hmm very interesting. Take a seat and listen."
    * * * * * * *
I glanced at myself in the mirror one last time. I wasnt sure if i looked too i dont know dressed up. I didnt have any best friend to tell me i'm beautiful. Or if i need more eyeliner or something like that. Oh well, here goes nothing, i thought. I walked down the stairs.
"And where do you think you're going young lady?"
    "I'm going out."
    "With?"
"Friends." Meanwhile, the doorbell rang. I ran to answer it. I wanted to quickly escape out the door so Matt couldnt see my dad.
    "Be back by 9!"
    "Whatever!" I stepped outside.
    "Macy, you um, look-"
"Let's just leave please." I knew that was rude but i didnt care.
"Macy you get back here!" my dad screamed. "That is no way for you to talk to your father!" I groaned. I got in Matt's car and looked out the window. I heard his door slam shut and he started backing out the driveway. I closed my eyes.
    "Did i-"
"Matt, just drive." I had been so pumped for this but i knew the questions were yet to come. And now, i wished i had said no to Matt. I felt the car stop.
"What's going on? I was psyched for this but if this is how you're gonna act, I'm taking you right back to your house." I was on the verge of crying. This day kept getting worse and worse. And then the tears came. Pouring down my face. The best friends date just became the most humiliating one.

The Truth Behind a Smile #11
I have now brightened the day for many Westminster High students. I have given them their entertainment for the day. I was laying in a puddle of noodleish stuff and sauce. And my front was getting soaked. Plus, i didnt have an extra shirt. I glanced up at everyone. In the middle of the crowd, was Allie. She was staring at me. Pretty much she was saying give up or else. This isnt threatening, it's just plain cruel. I got up and looked at the damage. My nice white shirt was now covered with red squishy, slimy looking stuff. Stuff that didnt look like pasta sauce. I ran out of the cafeteria and into the bathroom i had hoped to never have to see again. Looking in the mirror, i noticed my favorite pair of jeans were ruined, my shirt was ruined and some of my hair was knotted together with food.
    "You look terrible."
"Thanks for the update. I couldnt tell." I had a right to be mad. More than mad actually. I just hope Matt doesnt find me looking like this.
"I was gonna offer you my extra shirt my now i changed my mind."
"Well i dont think you'd be very grateful if you were covered in pukish looking stuff!"
"I guess you're right. Here." This girl i didnt know tossed me a shirt and i ripped of my other one. I put it on.
"Thanks! You literally just saved my life."
"I dont know about your pants or hair." She walked out. I started taking water and putting it through my hair. It failed. I dug my fingers trying to get rid of the knots. That worked a little. But then the bell rang. And Matt was in that class. I looked horrible. Oh well, I thought. I cant ditch. When i entered the math room, people stared and started laughing. They really didnt have any courteousy whatsoever.
    "Um Macy? What happened?"
"You haven't heard yet? I'm surprised, i thought it would all over school by now."
"No one's told me anything and you look like crap. Literally."
"I was going to a table to eat my lunch, which was the pasta and sauce. That looks like puke. Well on my way, Allie comes and bumps into me really hard and knocks my tray filled with pasta on my shirt. Which was white. So then i start running to the bathroom and someone trips me to the ground and i land in my sauce and pasta and it goes everywhere on me." I really could tell Matt wanted to laugh. "Matt, just go ahead and laugh. Everyone else is." The teacher then walked in and started class. I really hoped nothing else would happen today. I just wanted to go home. Class finally was dismissed for 7th period. In the hallway, Matt caught up with me.
"Okay Macy, you have to admit that was pretty funny."
"Not if you were actually the person who got covered in disgustingness."
"I know. But it would've been a sight to see right?"
"Do you keep forgetting that that person was me?! I thought you would've stood up for me or something. Not agree with everyone else!"
"Sorry Macy. You're right. And i'll make it up to you. Would you like to go to a movie with me tomorrow? Since it's Friday." A movie? With Matt? Just me and him? I didnt know what to say.

"Sit down Macy." My dad had led me to the kitchen. I was nervous. This was the first time he's ever gotten mad at me. Well when he wasnt drunk.
"So you do know what time it is right?"
    "Um no."
"It's 6:00. And i dont think you were at school since some stranger drove you home." I glanced at the clock. Time flies when you're having fun is what they say. I really dont know who they is though.
"I was with a friend and i lost track of time. Sorry."
"Macy, you were some guy that i dont know."
"He's a friend, Dad. And since when have you ever cared about where i was or who i was with."
"Since right now when you had me worried sick when you wouldnt walk through the door!"
    "Worried? Very funny Dad."
"Be home by 4 from now on. And if you're gonna be gone later call me."
"Why do I need a curfew?"
"Because i dont want you coming home late again." I stormed out of the room. So now i get an overprotective dad who as of last night or two nights ago made a decision to stay sober and get a job. And suddenly i end up with a curfew when it's only 6:00. Life is seriously not fair! Especially since I didnt do anything!
    * * * * * * *
Today started horribly and it's continued that way. I got woken up by my dad pulling off my sheets and pushing me out of bed. That's one way to show kindness dont ya think? And it was 5 a.m! I showered but the water was freezing cold cuz my dad had wasted all the warm water. After i was finished, i went to get some cereal and guess what? There was no milk. My dad had already left for work and i was stuck eating dry cereal which by the way, was half stale. When i finally left the house and arrived at school, i realized i had forgotten to do any of my homework. And i was on the verge of getting detention. I thought things couldnt get any worse. But they did. At lunch, i was carrying my tray of pasta which looked like a heap of puke. With sauce. Sounds delicious right? Well I'm walking to a table when out of nowhere, Allie comes by me and slams into me causing my tray of puke sauce to spill all over my shirt. That happened to be white! So i was stuck in the middle of the cafeteria with food all over my shirt and a group of students laughing hysterically at me. They didnt even think of helping me. I ran out of there. And someone tripped me. I landed on the floor and the sauce that was covering my shirt turned into this little puddle surrounding me. It was disgusting.
