Dry Your Black Eyes
Part Twenty-one.

I scan through my birthday cards from my friends. Not one of them says anything about what today actualy means to me.
Which is a good thing.
I sigh. Aunt Nessa and Aunt Leona are going to be home from getting the cake soon, so i'd better get a shower.
I take a shower, letting the warm water trickle onto my body like a waterfall. It feels amazing. I let the water run down my face to hide the silent tears i've been crying.
I stare at the razor.
I feel like doing something stupid, something i know mom would hate.
Don't do it, the water seems to warn me in my mother's voice.
I throw the razor at the mirror, which knocks it off the wall and it breaks.
A shard of glass shoots right into my arm.
I scream. It's extremely painful. Imagine trying to do something like this on purpose.
As i see the water in the drain turn blood red, i step out onto the shower mat and scramble to find the toilet paper.
But the floor is covered in tiny pieces of the mirror.
I manage to get out of the bathroom, running down the hall, dripping water and blood.
My room. It used to be the one Aunt Ness and Mommy shared. But Ness has her own apartment now. When she comes home, she stays on the couch in the little office.
I pull out the glass slowly. I scream again.
I wrap up my arm in an ace bandage that i found in the bottom drawer of the dresser. It used to be mom's dreser. But why is this bandage so bloody?
I know Mommy was beaten, could this be.. hers?
I grimace at the thought.
But it's the only thing i have right now. So i quickly wrap it up and get dressed.
"My, my, my. Look at you, Miss Hope." An unfarmiliar voice, low and gravelly, says.
I turn around to see a man. He's grown; in his late forties or early fifties, maybe.
And i've seen his face before. Where have i seen his face?
"I don't think we've met before. My name is Jayson."
And then it hits me. This is Jay. I saw him on the news.
And if this is Jay, then this is...
He smiles a menacing smile. "Say hello to your father."
Run.
