My Papas favorite song. It's kinda his life story as well. He died June10th2010

He woke for the last time. He woke up under 3 cotton white sheets. He woke up that Wednesday morning on his couch for the last time. His non working blue eyes captured my breath for the last time.
"Hey." I said softly and climbed up o the couch with him.
He smiled.
"Hello beauty."
His weak unnaturally raspy voice scared me. It was low and soft but he had tried.
We stayed there for a while.
We ate lunch. His last meal. His favorite. Stuffed shells with a hint of crushed garlic.
Mason's mother was a wonderful cook.
It was his last indulgence.
After that he was weak enough for another long nap. I was so washed out from anxiety and worry and suspense. So together hand in hand we fell asleep curled up on the couch.
"Mason, do you think our love can make it through this?"
"Baby girl, I know our love can do anything. Its life that separates us."
I could here my breath leave but I couldn't feel it go.
"I know Mason. And I love you. I wish that was enough."
I was so choked up my throat was in sincere pain.
"It's enough for me."
"But its not enough to keep you WITH me."
My turned. I'm glad he couldnt see my expression.
"I'll always be with you."
"I love you Mason. You have done so much for me even when I turned you away."
He smiled.
"I did it because I love you too."
My tears soaked his shoulder.
I cried myself to sleep.
The last words I remember were, 'I love you' from his lips.
Mason did not wake Neither did I. I was fortunate enough to go with him.
And together we spent the rest of eternity together in heaven. In fact we could be in hell but it would be heaven because we we're together.
Once upon a time I thought it started with 5 dollars.
But now i realize. It started as soon as we feel asleep that one day.
And forever together we'll be.

It happened. It really did. Mason, is...no.
I'm not going to think of that.
My mind flings back to the thought.
Blind.
I cant believe it. He really is. And its not just his brain..bashed...thing that did it either. Being in the freezing river so long gave him some sickness that led to giving his new condition...blindness...a weird rare disease. Rare as in theres.No.Cure.
So it's either, he gets better or he dies. Its not fair. To him or me.
I love him. I love him. Now its just walking on a greased railing over a billion jagged rocks below me. It's become my life. Mason likes to think he can still see slightly. It breaks my heart every time he things he sees my eyes. Or hair. Or his mom.
His hospitalized until the disease is gone. But they just sent him home this morning actually. they say if he's going to die he should do it comfortable at home or if not he'll just get better because there is nothing they could do for him.
Right now hes asleep. I gently kiss him.
He doesnt stir.
