    Chapter 30
    Epilogue
I nodded weakly, still trying to take it all in.
Evan Chandler, the man I haven't seen in two years was the guy who just spilt my coffee all over my favorite cardigan.
"I never thought I'd see you again." he laughed with relief, eyes shining with warmth. "You look great."
My cheeks turned red, as I bit my lower lip, a habit I had whenever I felt nervous.
The thing was that there was never an Evan and I after everything that happened.
After the day at the photography club classroom, everything just changed.
He kissed me, and I kissed him back.
As much as I liked it, I knew he wasn't thinking about me when he was kissing me.
    He was thinking about Hollis.
So, I pushed him away, despite how heartbroken he looked.
I told him right then and there that there was never going to be us, ever again.
Especially not after what he did to me.
"Thanks." I whispered, staring at the liquid that was trailing across the countertop.
Evan opened his mouth to say something, but the red head at the cashier snapped at him.
"Evan! You split the drink on her?!" she hissed, wiping up the mess. "Oh, jeez! I'm sorry!"
She wacked Evan across the head, glaring at him. "You're such an idiot." she snapped.
I let out a chuckle, as Evan turned bright red. "It's fine, really. Can I just get another coffee?"
She nodded quickly. "I'll get on it."
Evan turned back to me, as the red head went to make me another drink.
"I'm serious, I'm sorry about that." he smiled weakly. "Especially since it's Christmas Eve. What are you doing here anyways? I heard you went to NYU."
I laughed, tucking my hair behind my ears.
"I'm spending my Christmas with my family." I explained.
Evan nodded slowly, as he licked his lips. "How long are you staying?"
I shrugged. "I'm leaving next week, after New Years."
A small smile tugged across Evan's lips, making my heart leap.
That was the smile that made me fall in love with him years ago.
"Do you think we could hang out while you're here?" he asked.
I gulped, staring at him with shock.
I cleared my throat, nodding. "S-sure."
I jotted down my number on a napkin for him, as he shoved it in his pocket.
    "Thanks." he smiled.
The red head appeared back with a drink in her hand, handing it to me.
"Here you go! And so sorry about your shirt!" she gave me a frown.
    I smiled. "It's fine, really."
I took the drink, as I stood up from the stool.
"I'll see you later, Evan." I waved.
I left the cafe with a smile on my face.

    Hello. Welcome To "School"
    What you will need:
    • About 50,000 pen and pencils, because they'll probably get stolen or lost the first month.
    • About 20 notebooks, for doodling when the teacher bores you and for all those people that never remember paper.
•A $150 calculator that you will probably only use once
    • A giant backpack to hold the 50 pounds of books we give you.
Steps to getting through day of said school:
    1. Wake up at 6 a.m.
    2. Allow about 10 minutes of getting ready before you run out the door to catch the bus.
*note: when on said bus, watch for flying pens, pencils, paper, erasers, and other unidentified flying objects*
    3. Get into school.
*note: while walking to locker, watch out for running people, and flying objects*
    4. Get to class
*note: watch for random groups of people standing in the middle of the hallway. They create traffic. DO NOT BE ONE OF THESE PEOPLE. You will be hated and possibly pushed out of the way*
    5. Get through all classes.
    6. Get back on bus.
*note: see note for step two *
    7. Do all 500 pages of homework that are due the next day.
*note: this could take well into the night. You may want to break out the coffee or energy drink*
    8. Repeat for about nine months until summer comes.
    Additional Notes:
    • 8 hours of school just isn't enough. We find it necessary to give you another 3 hours of homework. Apparently, we think you have no social lives.
•We give you books that weigh about 50 pounds. You have to carry them everywhere, even though we almost never use them.
•You will have to basically teach yourselves everything, because your teachers think it "makes you a better student". They do almost nothing the whole class period except bore you.
    • Beware of the people in gym class. soe believe they are in the Olympics and may run you over if you get in their way.
•Learn how to get out of the way fast. You will need this skill when walking through the hallway.
•We don't teach you good skills, like what to do if your car breaks down or how to balance a checkbook. But we do find it necessary to teach you the Pythagorean Theorem, which you will most likely never use in your life.
    Thank you,
    and welcome to school.

    Chapter 25
My hands were literally trembling, as I fumbled to punch the keys on my phone.
When I finally found Aiden's name in my contact list, I hit the green call button.
A few rings later, Aiden picked up.
"Arden!" he said cheerily. "What's up?"
I felt a tear slip from my eye, trailing down my cheek.
"A-Aiden," I paused, voice shaking, "I need you to come get me."
After I ran out of Evan's house, I took myself where ever my legs led me.
Turns out, I ended up running to the other side of the town, where it was barely populated.
I was surrounded by a forest of trees, and since the sun was setting, it was getting extremely cold and dark.
"Wait, what?" Aiden asked, voice alerted.
"Please come get me." I croaked, clutching my phone tightly. "Please."
"Arden, stop talking so fast." Aiden paused.
I let out a deep breath of air, trying to calm myself down.
    "What happened?" he asked.
I began to break down, as I fell onto my knees.
"Evan was only using me this whole time." my voice broke.
My heart ache just saying it.
Aiden didn't say anything for a while, as I heard him take in a sharp in take of air.
"He finally told you about Hollis?"
My eyes snapped open wide, as my blood began to boil.
"Y-You knew?" I laughed bitterly, not believing my own voice. "You knew this whole time?!"
    "Arden, it's not what-"
"You two are exactly the same." I hissed.
I hung up on him, as I clenched my fists by my sides angrily.
    Everyone lied to me.
    Why me?
Out of all people, why did I have to be the one who suffered?
I called the one last person I had hope it.
My one and only best friend, Lacey.
"Lacey?" I spoke through the phone.
"Arden? What's wrong?" she asked worriedly.
She could already sense that something was wrong by the tone of my voice.
"I'll explain later, but can you please come get me?" I asked, voice cracking.
"I'm already in my car!" Lacey said, putting me on speaker. "Where are you?"
I stared around me, noticing that there was an empty highway with a sign.
    "Near Townsend. Exit 52."
Lacey paused, as I heard the sound of her car starting.
"I'm going to make sure Evan gets it after I get you." she said.

    Chapter 10
    "Me?" I asked with disbelief.
His boss looked irritated and impatient, as an angry customer started to complain.
"Where's my vanilla on a cone?!" he hollered.
Evan's boss ignored him briefly, while he started to scoop up some vanilla.
"Yes, you." he said. "Are you in or not?"
I rubbed my arm uncomfortablly. "I'm fine with doing so, but I just want to let you know that I've never had any working experience."
"I don't care right now. I just need you to open another cash register with Evan." he paused, handing the man his ice cream. "He'll help you out."
I hesitantly nodded, making my way over to the empty cash register beside Evan.
"Paul offered you a job?" Evan frowned, handing some girl her change.
I nodded, as Evan fished out an apron for me.
"Wear this for now." he told me, ringing up the next order.
Taking in a deep breath, I announced, "Next person please!"
A family of three came over to my register.
"We'll take one hot fudge sundae, and two chocolate cones." the mother, I assumed, ordered.
I nodded, punching some keys on the computer screen.
"Is that all?" I asked, giving them a nervous smile.
She nodded, as I rang up her order. "Nine dollars and fifty three cents."
She handed me a ten, telling me to keep the change.
After an hour, the line finally shortened, as Evan rang up the last order.
When he was finished, Evan sighed with relief.
"That was one of the busiest days here." he muttered.
He turned to me, giving me a small smile.
"The line would still be going if you weren't here to help."
I rolled my eyes, shaking my head. "No big deal, really."
Evan's boss waltzed up to me, taking off his rubber gloves that were covered in ice cream.
He wiped the sweat off his forehead.
"I never got your name." he told me.
    "It's Arden." I said.
"Interesting." he paused. "Show up again tomorrow afternoon with Evan."
I frowned, staring at Evan, who shrugged.
"I-I thought I was only working for today."
Evan's boss raised an eyebrow. "Oh. You aren't looking for a job?"
I shrugged, biting my lower lip.
Evan's boss turned to Evan. "Convince your girlfriend here to work."
Evan's faced turned red, as I bit my lower lip from smiling.
    "We aren't-" Evan started off.
"Keep yacking." he slapped Evan's arm with a dirty towel. "I haven't seen you this happy since Hollis was here."
    ...
    Hollis?

    You have no idea
No idea of what I feel about you.
Or how much I care about you.
Or how much I think you're amazing and cute.
Or what I think we could become.
Or how much you make me happy and sad at the same time.
Or how much you make me feel so alive.
Or the butterfly riot that takes place in my stomach
    when you talk to me.
Or how much you make me worry and scared.
    You have no idea...

    Think
of how many people have sat next to you
    on a bus, train, whatever.
Now think how many people have sat next to you on purpose
with their fingers crossed in hope that you’ll talk to them.
    I’m sure somebody has.
There’s plenty of times when somebody’s seen you and
hoped that you spoke to them, but you never did because
you don’t have the guts and neither do they. Don’t go around
thinking nobody likes you and that you’re not loved. There’s
been plenty of times when a stranger has spotted you and
thought “Oh, they’re just my type” but haven’t had the
courage or confidence to open their mouth and initiate a conversation.
The funny thing is, neither have you.
