I'll mouth, ''I love you.''
Prologue
Avalaya lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling. In her mind was only one thing, those horrific events which occurred in the spring of 2004. She was only 10 and her parents had been very hesitant about letting her go on that camping trip but after Avalaya begged and begged, they let her. She never did anything wrong, she was always a good girl in hope that her parents might be proud of her. Growing up, Avalaya never was a quiet child, she would chit and chat all the time. Sometimes the most random of subjects would come out of her mouth.
At this camping trip, most of the students played a game of truth or dare while the teachers talked at the side. There destination was a camping site, only a half hour away from Avalaya's home in Sydney.
''Truth or dare?'' Jennifer Roq asked Avalaya. Avalaya had looked around. 'I'll look better if I say dare,' she thought.
''Dare.'' Jennifer had a smirk on her face.
''Okay, I dare you to go out into the woods and stay there for five minutes.''
''B-but we aren't allowed to,'' Avalaya said.
''You're a chicken!'' Jennifer declared.
''F-fine, I-I'll go.'' Jennifer smiled, satisfied. Avalaya stood up. She walked off into the woods, there was still some light but it was getting late. Avalaya hadn't planned on going far but her curiosity got the best of her and she wandered through the trees and stopped abruptly at a huge hole. Avalaya had only been walking for a few minutes. She looked into the hole and gasped when she saw what was in it. Human remains. On the other side of the hole there was a man was with a girl, she had blonde hair and big blue eyes.
''Now, now, you'll enjoy this,'' the man said. The man looked to be forty but the girl was only Avalayas age. The girl gaped when she saw Avalaya. ''You see Maddison, I've kept you around for this long because you're the best out of them all. That and you haven't said anything to anybody,'' the man laughed. Maddison Stark. She was 10 and saw this man every week. Maddison pointed to the tree, signalling to the man that she needed to go bathroom. ''Okay,'' he told her. ''Don't be long, I'm going to get some things. I expect you to be back soon!'' he growled at the last bit. The man walked to get some rope, just in case Maddison didn't co-operate this time. Maddison hurried to the Avalaya.
''Are you okay?'' Avalaya asked.
''Y-yes,'' Maddison answered. They were the first words she had uttered in six months. She put something in Avalaya's hand, it was a necklace. ''Keep this, I'm going to die soon anyway… he hasn't seen you yet, you better run. Good luck,'' Maddison told her.
''Why are there-there-'' she couldn't finish just pointed to the hole.
''Don't worry… don't tell anybody you saw this, you-you have to go.'' It was too late.
''Get over here, both of you!'' the man bellowed. Maddison did but Avalaya didn't, she ran. ''I will get you, I will!'' he yelled.
Nothing, nothing could prepare Avalaya what happened a few days after. Those few events led Avalaya to be mute and she realised that she just may have to mouth, ''I love you.''
