The summer When Everything Changed
Story Preface
Do you know what love feels like? No, I don't mean a sixth or Seventh grade boyfriend that last a month, that stuff rarley lasts. I'm talking about the kind of love that makes you want to die from happiness, that makes you think your life is perfect. You start day dreaming about what wedding dress your going to wear, that's what I mean by love. It's a beautiful thing.

I thought that was what me and Darren had, untill it happened. The unthinkable, the tradgic, the evil. IT all happened the summer everything Changed.

So hey guys, I'm Bri. I'm sorry if you hate my stories. If I'm mean to you its because 1) Your mean to me    2) Your mean to somebody I love     3) I really don't know I'm being mean to you

    The Summer Everything Changed
    Preface
New York was amazing. I loved everything about the city. The apartment i lived in. My mom. My sister. My boyfriend. My friends. The ability to walk around all day and never get lost. To be able to just pull a taxi over and take it wherever I wanted to go. It was the city that never sleeps.
There was just so much drama though. You could always here a police cars sirens echoing down the street. You could hear the gang fights if you made a wrong turn. The guys thought they could do whatever they wanted to the girls. They thoughts they could cheat on them. They thought they could cheat on me.
So I needed a break. How could you blame me?
I was a tired girl living in a restless city

    The Summer Everything Changed
    Chapter 5
Oh my gosh, how did this happen?
I was walking down the beach my heart thudding as he told me another embarrassing story from when he was little.
This wasn’t my idea. I hated the perky blond lady that was sitting at the table and laughing at my dad’s jokes. I think she did like me though, so I’m that deep in. I basically just kept to myself until I couldn’t stand eating dinner with them anymore.
Derrik was working in a huge library in progress in our house. He insisted that he could work great with tools so dad let him put in some of the shelves, that’s were I went. I opened the door that reveled the large book room and a tall boy my age working on it. He kept to himself, not whistling or singing like most boys I knew would do.
It was apperent that he didn’t know I was there. After a couple minute of pounding on the shelves, he stepped down to get more materials.
His brown hair was matted in sweat at the top and he kept pushing I tout of his eyes. I was studying him carefully when he realized I was standing there. “What the-!” He stepped back. “How long have you been there?” Bewilderment showed in his voice.
“Only a few minutes.” I sat down in a chair and followed me over.
“What did you think of Grace?” He sat down like this was his own house.
“I don’t know.” I answered truthfully, “She seems to make him really happy.”
He chuckled but didn’t reply. We sat there for a minute before I finally broke the golden silence, “I’m going to beach for a walk.” I stood up and dusted my sun dress off.
He stood up as well, yawing, “I’d better get home then.” We walked through the small door again and I saw that dad and Grace were still laughing at the kitchen table.
“Dad. I’ll be going now to the beach.” A concerned look crossed his face.
“Alone? It’s already nine and that’s usually when bad things happen.”
I rolled my eyes at him “Dad, I’ll be-,”
“I’ll go with her,” Derrik cut me off with a smile, “It would be nice to catch up on the 14 years we missed.”

“Um, Dad…” I swallowed hard waiting for a response.
“Sweats, you won’t have anything to worry about, she will love you! Your so mature for your age and you are seventeen. If you want I could let you go to the beach, the waters great this time of year.”
“Yeah, that sounds okay.” I looked over his shoulder to the black door. “Can I go now?”
“Well… I was hoping you would want to meet Grace. She’s just amazing and if you’re staying with me for long, she might become your new mom.”
“Alright dad, whatever makes you happy.” I smiled graciously at him. He had to be giving up so much by moving here. “Let me get changed.”
“Right, you have the room in the loft. There’s your own bathroom but if Grace moves in you might have to share it with her. She doesn’t think it’s appropriate for a male and female to share a bathroom.” He pointed towards the stairs that spiraled up a little onto a platform hallway.
    “Thanks.”
    ***
The room was nice with a cozy couch and full sized bed. It wasn’t too big for my style like I thought it would be. The walls were painted a sunset orange that made the whole room feel not as new as it really was. There was an open door that led outside to a balcony that overlooked that beautiful ocean. The curtains were flowing into the room and the warm light from the sunset trickled in leaving a picture perfect scene.
I felt my phone buzz in my pocket ruining my moment of beauty.
    One new message
    From Jack
Hey Susie, what if I move up near where you live? I’m old enough to move out aren’t I?
    I sighed and hit reply,
    Jack,
I don’t think that’s a good idea. Ur family needs you and you shudnt live on Ur own
I hit send and put my purple suit case on the bed to get a summer dress out. I chose a light blue one with a streak in it. I slipped it over my bathing suit because on the way home dad said the pool was open 24/7.
“How do you like it here?” I turned in surprise to see a very young woman standing in the door.
“Oh my God, are you Grace?” She was way to young to be my dads girlfriend. She laughed and shook her head.
“That would be odd. I my parents live next door with my younger brother, Derrik. I’m visiting from collage and I remembered you a little from the last time you visited us. You were little.” She smiled seemingly remembering a good memory. “You had a crush on my brother.”
“How old was I? I don’t remember that at all.” I wrinkled my nose at he thought of having a loud partying boy live next to me. Well, maybe he was cute.
“You were both like four I think.” She played with her brown hair awkwardly.
“Do you want to sit down?” I asked, patting the bed.
“Sure!” She smiled. I had a weird feeling that she had some kind of disorder. “Actually, my brother wanted to come over and help your dad with something. I’ll go get him real quick.”
She ran out of the room before I could say anything else.
Derrik, I thought, what a strange name.
Little did I know he would be the boy that changed my life forever.
Thanks guys, love you all, I will write the next chapter after five faves

    The Summer When Everything Changed

I loved Miami Florida as soon as I stepped off out of the cool airport and into the warm summer sun. Being from Rochester New York I was prone to cold weather for most of the year. But this was amazing. Most people I knew would have said this was way too warm; it must have been at least 95.
“Susie?” I turned to see my dad standing near an amazing black convertible. He was defiantly not as lame as I remembered him to be. He had swim trunks on and a kind of fancy, kind of casual shirt on. He reminded me a lot of Jimmy Buffet.
“Dad? Oh my gosh!” I ran over to him and embraced him in a hug. “How are you?”
“Great, just fine honey.” Me pulled away and looked me up and down, “My, you have gotten so big! How old are you? Seveteen?”
“Yeah, turned seventeen about two months ago.” I smiled at him. “I’m going to graduate early too, so you don’t need to worry about school. Technically, I’ve already finished high school so…” I trailed off.
“Wow honey that’s great, I think you’re going to love it here.
    ***
Dad’s house was huge. It was at three stories high and extremely modern. “Wow, dad… You've don’t good.” I was almost aggravated b this because of how poorly Mom was doing financially, even with me and my sister working job.
“Yeah hun,” He trailed off seaming distracted. “I work a really good job.”
“That’s awesome. Down in New York, we aren’t exactly doing so well, but with me not being there, maybe they will do better. I’m going to send money to the if I get a job here.”
“That’s wonderful,” He still had the same distracted look on his face and was looking towards the black metal front door.
“What is it?” I questioned him slowly.
“Um, well. I think you should know that I have a fiancée Susie.” He bit his lip down in confusion. “And she’s going to be over any minute. However, she doesn’t know you’re moving in with me and she’s not fanatic about kids.”
    “Oh”

“Mom,” I took a deep breath, “We really need to talk.”
I saw her smile waver a little, “What is it? Honey… If you’re asking for a car again, I can’t afford it.”
“No mom, it’s about… Dad.” I swallowed hard as I saw the look of obvious disapproval cross her face. “I can’t stay here anymore, and it won’t be like you’ll be staying alone either. Mellissa will still be here. I know you don’t like Dad, but he can take care of me.”
“How long darling?” She looked down at the bills at the table and I could see her grimace.
“Uh… Mom, I was sort of going to stay” She didn’t look up. “Mom, I was going to move in completely.”
    ***
This is a good idea, I told myself. But that was hard with my mother’s disapproval of dad. They’ve been divorced for fourteen years and had kids. All the same, they acted like broken up seventh graders. A moving truck was taking all of my things down from Rochester to Miami while I would take a plane down. When I had told dad I was coming down, he was terrified, “Wow, that’s a change. When are you coming? Do you need to be enrolled in school? Do you need a car?”
I had told I could handle everything and that he didn’t need to worry about anything, just that there was too much drama up by me.
My mother was waiting in the lounge tapping her foot. With her huge brown sun glasses and dark brown hair pulled up, she looked a lot younger. “Mom, I really didn’t want to do this either, I just really need this. Maybe I will come home soon.”
She ignored me by turning around and blowing some hair out of her face. “Attention all scheduled passengers from flight 42A, the plane is scheduled to arrive in ten minutes. We are sorry for the delay.” The speaker’s voice boomed all over the airport.
“Mom,” I said taking her shoulders and turning her around, “I love you. I need to hear that in person before I leave.”
She hesitated, “Susan, I will always love you…” She embraced me in a hug and we waited for the plane to arrive.
I felt something vibrate in my pocket; my phone. I pulled it out
    One new message
    From Jack:
Susan, plz forgive me, can we talk somewhere private, come to my house? Plz?
I hadn’t told him I was leaving yet.
    I hit the reply button
Jack, I cant leaving for florida right now, not coming bak
    One new message

    I love you, don’t go

“Damn it Jack! Just get away from me.” I screamed at the perfect blond boy standing in front of me. Tears were streaming down my face because of the pain it caused me to say this. “I don’t want to play your games anymore!”
“Susan, I love you though. I really messed up this time and I really know that.” He let a strand of that perfect blond hair fall in front of his perfect blue eyes. “Please don’t leave me.”
“I’m sure you said that to your other girlfriend too! Damn it, why? Why did you do this to me?” I stared straight in his eyes but he remained silent. “Right then. I guess that’s that? It’s all over?”
I stormed out the door of the Olive Garden that we were having dinner at and sat down on one of the fancy benches in the front. Jack didn’t follow me out, but I wasn’t offended, he knew I needed space. But this time, I didn’t think I could forgive him.
“Were you his girlfriend or something? Please tell me you weren’t.” I was alarmed by the voice coming next to me. The girl with the shiny black hair and thin frame was sitting next to me on the bench.
I nodded weakly, “And I suppose you were too?” I felt sick to my stomach. When this girl had seen Jack, she came over and kissed him on the lips. I had sat there petrified, when she saw my terrified look, she screamed. Please tell me you didn’t! When he didn’t answer she stormed out of the restaurant.
“Well, I was.” She looked how I felt, “I guess now…”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know he was dating you, I’m Susan.” I leaned over and stuck my hand out.
She just stared at it for a moment before taking it and saying, “I’m Fiona.”
