That happens all the time. The media never focuses on the victims, only on the criminals. It happened with the Newtown shooting and the Petit family home invasion (both of which were in my state and I personally know the Petit family). They victimize the criminals and make it seem like they are being punished unfairly, but they don't bother to talk about how the victims lives will never be the same.
