I don't compare myself to others.
I compare myself to what others expect of me, everyday, all the time.
Wheather or not I'm the perfect person who is skinny and pretty, always gets perfect grades, always follows the rules and never talks back, who never does anything wrong.
Everyday hoping that expectations will stop and I can finally sleep.
That I can finally be free of what people want.
But it never does.

Once I couldn't fall asleep so I wrote instead:
My bed is hot. Turning from one side to the other in hope of a cold embrace, but only to find it as heated up as it was when I decided to turn over. This heat. Buried in it, you slowly become it. My bed and I are in a state that, if this night is given some more hours, comes close to ignition. This heat. And the turning and the moving won't bring me the breeze I have been wishing for. This heat. Too comfortable to be comfortable. This too-comfortable heat. For you it is simple: You can not sleep in benevolent, motherly warmth without a cool chill. And for me it is simple: I long for the chill.

I lay awake waiting for this mystical thing called sleep to settle over my body and engulf into my
mind. I have never truly witnessed this mysterious thing before. I can’t wait to see how it feels to
be a rest, I’ve been waiting my whole life to feel relieved, just looking forward to just one night
without words, thoughts, pictures, and video clips from my life flying through my mind, racing
through it as if a car flying around a race track at 90 miles per hour.
I lay awake hoping for sleep, but it escapes me and doesn’t want to return, as if it just left and
doesn’t want to come back. So I turn to my pillow side with a glance, watching as 3 little, white,
powdery pills stare me in the face. I don’t want these, but… I guess I need them. I will not take
them, the answer is no. So I wait ‘till the rivers and streams of (overpowering, overwhelming,
and engrossing) thoughts, pictures, sounds, video clips, words (too strong to say or accept) in my
mind finally leaks a tear in my eye and a stain on my cheek. As my face burns, I lie
awake…slowly drifting off into a deep dark sleep…to only last a small but simple moment…
