I've never physically harmed myself,
but I have scars bruises and wounds
on my heart and my mind and my soul,
new ones that gleam bright fresh and bloody
and old ones that have scabbed over crustily
and older ones still that are faded and colorless
yet their presence lingers on all the same.

I've never physically tried to kill myself,
but perhaps I have succeeded in doing so spiritually
because parts of me have died and been buried,
all hopes of resurrection gone with them.
