I remember standing ourside this building for the first time
three years ago.Three years ago, why I was stupid. Three years
ago when I made a big mistake. Three years ago when Hunter was
still my best friend.

It's day one of freshman year. The classroom is still pretty
empty and the only light is coming through the windows. It's
the first class of the days it's English. I'm not very
good at English. Something I'm good at is hurting myself.
Accident prone should be my middle name. So I sprained my ankle
and get to start the year on crutches. That automatically put me
in the first desk right next to the door. I could turn around and
talk to the kids in the desk behind me but he's super quiet
but there's really no point. Then suddenly, the seat next to
me was filled. I glance over and and see a girl with long
reddish-brown hair that flows well past her shoulders has filled
the desk. She catche's me staring, these peircing green eyes
meet mine for the first time, and gives me a smile. Did my
stomach just flutter?
"What's your name?" She asked. Huh? Is she
talking to me?
"Ja-Jason Vance." Why the hell am I
stuttering?
"Hunter Denver. My parents thought they were having a boy
and decided to stick wiht the name anyway."
I laughed. We had an instant connection. I knew we were gonna be
good friends. Who knew by Feburary I'd screw everything
up.

"Welcome back, Mr. Vance." Our dean, Mr. Trist greeted
me in his office. "I trust I don't need someone to show
you around the building?"
"Well it has been a few years." I joked.
"Okay your locked is still the same. Here's the
combonation. "
"Thanks, Mr. Trist."
"Glad to have you back."
I left his off and headed for the second floor. I shoved my stuff
in my locker and grabbed what I needed for my first class. I was
in such a hurry I barely noticed the once grey lockers were now
red. I wanted to find her right away. The sooner the better. Then
I heard a voice.
"J.V. ?"
I knew the voice instantly, my best friend Riker Hudson.
"Dude is this for real?! You're back?!" He
basically jumped into my arms.
"Yes, it's real. Yes, I'm back."
"Why aren't you on the team yet?"
He had to be talking about soccer. I did want to play but it
wasn't my first priority. "I got something I gotta do first." I
started toward her locker again. If mine was the same, her's
had to be too.
"What?" Riker asked.
"Come with me and find out." I got to the last locker
in her row. Thats when I saw her. Se was putting some stuff on
the top shelf of her locker. I never understood why she put stuff
up there, she could barely reach it. I was always getting the
stuff down from there for her. Well, at least I used to. I took
her in for a moment before making my move. It was the first time
seeing her since freshman year. She was just as pretty, if not
prettier than before. Her hair still hung long and she totally
pulled off the cliche catholic school girl uniform. Just as
I'm about to move forward, Riker grabbed my arm.
"You sure about this? I have a good hunch of what you're
about to do."
"I'm sure. I have to do this." I took his hand off
my arm. Deep breath Vance, you can do this. I walked
over to Hunter's locker, her view was blocked by the door but
she spoke immediately.
"Hey baby." Baby? Hell, maybe this was going to be easier than I
thought. The locker door slammed shut, snapping me out of my
thoughts and he tone immedaitely changed.
"Jason?!"
