You know that flower you
bought me?
The pink carnation?
I still have it.
Even though you only paid a dollar,
I believe it's worth so much more.
Remember how good it smelt?
I'd never really liked flowers.
And I wasn't very fond of their smell.
But that pink carnation...
I don't know why
Or how,
I'd never smelt anything so sweet.
When I got home,
I stayed up all night.
Smiling to myself,
Sniffing that pink carnation.
Never wanting that scent to fade,
I put it between the pages of a book,
In an attempt to keep it crisp.
But, over time,
It began to wilt.
And the smell lifted.
It's not as pure,
Or as bright as it was when you
First handed it to me.
But that's okay.
Because if I open a certain book,
To a certain page,
I'll find a wilted pink
carnation.
