Why can't mental illness be like any other kind of sickness where you go to
a hospital and your loved ones come and give you flowers and tell you that they love you and hold your hand and make sure you get better? Why doesn't that happen instead of awkward silences and embarrassing tears and messy bedsheets and a bunch of other stuff no one actually talks about? Why?

Because most people with 'mental illness' are attention seeking teenage girls.

Why do I always feel like you're trying to get a rise out of people?

That may be the case on here, but in reality there are many, many people who are genuinely not well....

I wish that was the case!
There are so many, in fact -TOO- many, people who are too afraid to do anything about their illness due to fear of exposure - especially the case with people who suffer from extreme forms of anxiety. These people live unfulfilled lives whilst there are others (like some on this website) who claim themselves suicidal over things that cannot even be compared to what people who are truly suffering go through. Hopefully in the near future society will become more accepting of, and provide more help to, the mentally ill. Hopefully people will no longer have to suffer alone.

I love this. I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder today, after years and years of struggling and being afraid to take action for this very reason. I'm finally working with a therapist and will be on antidepressants shortly. And you know what? I'm not ashamed. Do we all wish it could be like in your quote? Sure, but it's not. That's our job; to end the stigma surrounding mental illnesses and disorders.
