Chapter 19
Marianne's POV
I froze.
Could the man with the yellow teeth really have been Asher's
dad?
My leg was bleeding a little and my hands were all scraped.
I turned to Asher and saw that he wasn't talking to the man
in the car, but infact his dad who was running towards us
now.
Asher took out his phone.
"Hello 911? Uh we have an accident..."he spoke.
As soon as the man saw Asher talking to the police, he started
his engine and ran.
It wasn't like he was waiting in the car for a while after he
slightly bumped me, it was around 30 seconds.
*Later on*
I found myself laying in a hospital bed yet again.
The nurses all said that I'd be out by tomorrow afternoon, so
there was nothing to do but wait.
The next day was supposed to be the first day back from the
winter holiday but I knew I'd be missing it.
*The next day*
My mom drove me back home.
"Where's Jake?" I asked my mom.
"Oh he's at school, he should be coming back in about
half an hour" she said as we pulled up on the driveway.
Half an hour later, Jake wasn't home.
40 minutes.
50 minutes.
1 hour.
"Mom where's Jake?" I asked again.
"Oh he's probably at one of his friend's houses. We
can call his cell phone to check" she said.
The phone rang and then " The number you are trying to reach
has been diconnected from our phone services" we heard.
"Mom....is that supposed to happen?" I asked.
A worried look crossed her face.
We started calling all of his friends houses and the same
answer.
"Jake isn't here" the mother said, on the last
phone call.
"Can we talk to Dylan" my mom asked.
There was a pause.
"Hi Dylan, it's Jake's mom, do you know where Jake
might be?" she asked.
"Uh, after school some guy in a car said that he works with
you or whatever and he was there to pick him up" he
said.
My mom dropped the phone.
Just then my older brother came in.
"Hey where's Jake?" he asked.
My mom called the cops and from our living room we could hear the
TV.
"An unidentified boy has been found in the woods with severe
damage.
He has been taken to the hospital, barely alive" the woman
said.
We all froze looking at the TV.
She paused and then said "He has been just
identified as Jake, the brother of Marianne who had gone missing
for 10 years"
