Remember Me.
**Chapter 24**
Six months passed. I was still living here, but I got used to the
ways of life here. I had friends but couldn’t ever see
them. I was in my bedroom. Grandpa Ron wasn’t home. I
decided to watch some TV. Literally nothing good was on so I just
put it on international news. ‘GANG SHOOTING IN NY THIS
WEEK’ was the headline. Hmmm, I wonder if Jenni knows the
gang. “It’s a series of unfortunate events. 3 teen
locals were shot by a gang of people in an alley off of the city
this past week. It was fatal for two of the poor teens. Poor
souls, Keyana ‘Keke’ Georgeton, Frank Biddleton, and
Jennifer Johnson were the three victims. Keyana also known as
Keke was the only one of the three who survived the shooting.
Frank and Jennifer were shot and murdered by suspected gang
members, Hank Freetem and William Arosot. If you know where Hank
and William are located or have any information on the murders
please contact authorities now.” I couldn’t help but
cry. And cry. And cry. And cry a whole lot more. I call
Jenni’s phone. No answer. “No. No. No. No. No. Tell
me it’s not true!” I cry. Jenni’s full name was
Jennifer Johnsoon. It even showed her school ID picture on the
news. She cant be gone. She got caught up with drugs
again… She must have. I grab my phone again.
“Oh hi sweetheart” Teresa cries.
“Tell me it isn’t true Teresa! It cant be!” I
cry.
“It is, Sadie. I know I cant believe it either”
“She was my best friend!” I yell.
“She was my only daughter!” She yells back.
We both cry together on the phone. I had money saved up. I buy a
plane ticket and plan to leave tomorrow. I am going to New York.
I refuse to miss her funeral. I don’t care the risks of
getting in trouble. How could she be dead! I didn’t sleep
much that night. I cried none stop. I get up at 3 in the morning
instead of 4 so I could sneak out before my grandpa awakes. I
left a note that said:
“I left on a plane. My best friend was shot and murdered I
will be attending her funeral. I may or may not come back. Sorry,
sir. Thank you grandpa Ron for dealing with me these past 6
months. I know it must have been a hand full. Sincerely,
Sadie.”
I boarded the plane and arrived in New York within hours. KNOCK
KNOCK. I pound on Teresa’s door. She opens the door; she
looks just as bad as I do.
