Mary's
POV
"I invited Mary's friend over for dinner, but he
seems to be late." My mother says. My uncle stands up
and helps her bring the food to the dinning room table.
"Mary has a friend, that's not imaginary?"
Thomas remarks. My mother hits him. "Thomas, you could
at least try to be a little nicer to your sister. And yes,
she does." He's not late. He's coming.
I'll have to survive this miserble evening, alone. My
brother snorts, "How can she have a friend when she
doesn't even talk?" Thomas lives to torture me.
"People can communicate in other ways then speaking.
Body language is far more powerful then talking." My
mother says. Yes. Sometimes words are truly
useless. Dinner is served at six-thrity. My mother
engages in conversation with the rest of her guests. Her
eyes linger to the clock every few mintues. Her thoughts
match mine, perfectly. He's really not coming.
"How do you vision yourself in the next five years,
Haley?" My mother asks. Haley giggles and sips her
wine. "Barefoot and pregnant. There is no greater joy
then having kids." My mother swallows hard and tries
to hide her discomfort. "You have no plans for a
career." She states. Haley strokes Thomas's arm.
"I plan to take care of my husband and my home. I want
to be a housewife." My mother is not impressed.
Thomas's eyes glow with pride. I guess you've found
yourself the perfect trophy wife. "Oh, I'm
sure you'll make a great mother." My mother says.
"Well, I for one, can't wait for grandchildren.
You my dear, are beautiful. My grandson couldn't have
picked put a better wife." My grandmother says. She
places her hand over Haley's hand. Haley is gratefull
that my grandmother is on her side. My mother couldn't
disagree more. Haley is the opposite of what she pictured
for her son. "Infact, I might already be
expecting." Haley says.
