Never Been Kissed
Chapter 6
Mary's POV
He smiles apologetically, "You look surprised to see me. Did you really think I would stand you up?" Yes. My mother walks through the door and is truly relieved when she sees James. "Oh James, I'm so glad you could make it!" She says. James nods. "So am I. I'm really sorry I'm late. My car broke down this morning and I had trouble finding a ride. I can leave if it's--" My mother intrupts him, "Nonsense. All that matters is that your here now!" James pulls out a bouget of flowers from behind his back. The flowers are white lillies which just happens to be my mother's favorite. "For you." He tells her. "Oh, you are too sweet. I need to go find a vase for these." My mother says. James looks rather pleased with himself and I want to wipe that smirk right off his face. "Don't worry. I didn't forget about you. I have a surpirse for you too." What kind of surprise? James follows me into the dining room. He looks intimidated by the entire family. The entire family is engaging in an argument but James's prescence seems to bring them to a stop. The rest of my family smiles and acknoledges his prescence. "This is Mary's friend, James." My mother announces. James smiles politely, "I'm sorry for being so late and inturrupting your dinner." My brother looks shocked, "Take a seat." Thomas says. No, no, no! Don't sit by him! James takes a seat next to Haley. "Sit down, Mary." My mother says. I sink down into my seat with a heavy sigh. "Well, it's really nice for you to come, James. For a while, I thought you were made up!" Thomas says. James remains calm, "It's my pleasuse. Plus, it gave me an excuse to see your sister." Thomas crosses his arms firmly over his chest, "Well that's nice of you to say. I can't imagine why anyone would want to see her." James seems stunned by my brother's comment, "That's kind of--" My mother intrupts both boys, "I'm going to warm you up a plate, James. Is there anything you would like to drink?" She asks. "Yeah do you want a beer?" Thomas asks. "Thomas!" My mother says. Thomas shrugs, "Most teens start drinking. I started when I was thirteen." And look how you turned out. "I'll just take a water." James says. My mother disappears into the kitchen and I feel lost without her. She knows how to keep a watchful eye over Thomas. "Well, if theres anything you would like to know about Mary, let me know. There's a few gaps I could help you fill in." Thomas promises with evil intentions. James looks over to me and he can sense I'm uncomfortable.
