I gritted my teeth together as we gained altitude on the steady climb to the top of the hill.
Every so often Chase would sneak a look at me and smile,
I tell you what, if I died today he would be paying for my funeral!
“How much longer?” I asked as my feet began to grow heavy.
Ben looked over his shoulder to meet my eyes.
“We’re nearly there Beth” He chimed, shooting me a blinding smile.
I scowled and lowered my head, fixating my green eyes on the pair of cream converse I had worn.
I studied their scuffed toes, and how the laces split at the ends, making them frayed and fizzy.
After about 10 minutes I felt a slight tugging on my arm,
And I looked up to be met with a shining pair of brown eyes.
I raised my eyebrows.
“We’re here now, so feel welcome to wipe that glower off your face” Chase chuckled a little and took my hand.
“Come on Beth! Lighten up a little! Look at the view!”
He threw back his head, and let the sun shower his face.
I frowned.
“Are you scared?”
As much as I didn’t want to admit it, I was, and I was feeling pretty stupid about it.
“Oh please...”
He noticed the tone in my voice and gave my hand a squeeze.
Ben eyed us from about 100 metres away, tying up the parachutes.
He mumbled something and headed over to us, brushing the dirt from his knees.
“We’re ready to go” He scowled, and I quickly pulled my hand away from Chase.
I walked over to the edge, and I could feel a certain pair of golden brown eyes piercing the back of my head.
I took one look down, and began to back away.
“Just jump” added Ben.
My eyes fluttered around and I began to feel dizzy.
“You know what, I actual-“  I began...
A pair of strong hands grabbed my waist, and before I knew it, I was gliding down over the beach.
Chase threw his head back in laughter, and dusted off his hands, before jumping off after me, and flying down into the sun.
“I will get you Chase Michaels! I will!!” I yelled, but secretly, this was one of the best moments of my life.

Chase's POV
*after the parasailing ride*

I frowned as I watched Ben unclip Beth from her harness,
He seemed a little too touchy feely for someone who wanted to be just friends.
Beth was being so naive,
She should have just stepped away already!
She smiled as he slid the harness down her and told her about the surf this morning.
I rolled my eyes and looked away from them, running my hands threw my messy mop of brown hair.
Why did I care anyways?
I decided that it was because we were friends, that I cared if she got hurt.
But deep down I knew why I was being so protective.
Protective?
No, Jealous.
 I knew why when I watched them together I couldn’t help but feel a little burning sensation in my stomach, a pain in my heart.
I knew why I held her hand, and playfully fought with her.
It was as clear as day.
But somehow, I managed to push that feeling deep down inside of me,
And refuse to let it escape.
My true feelings were like a stray dog,
Locked away in a kennel, hoping that maybe one day they would be released.
I figured out a lot of things that day, as I watched Ben flirt with Beth on the beach,
And among them would be the most important of them all.
I knew why that dog wouldn’t be set free,
 
And I knew why it would be locked away forever.
