I twirled the bright pink straw in my milkshake and watched the vanilla icecream slowly bobbing around in the top of the
old-fashioned diner style cup.
“You’re really quite annoying you know”
I raised my eyebrows and peered over the top of my milkshake to meet Chase’s eyes.
“But-“ He began. “I’m willing to put up with that”
I smirked. “And why would that be?” I questioned, taking a sip of my chocolate drink, the icecream on top felt good against my cheeks, it was a break from the hot air and sun that beamed down on us from out the front of the diner where we sat.
Chase glanced around before leaning in closer to me.
“Can you keep a secret?” He whispered, bearing an over exaggerated worried look on his face.
I nodded, knotting my eyebrows together- I may as well play along.
“I need an adventure buddy” He grinned, showing his pearly white teeth.
I raised my eyebrows and put on an amused look.
“An... Adventure buddy” I repeated, I could feel a smile slowly creeping onto my lips.
He nodded as if it was the most simple thing in the world.
“I need you to help me finish my bucket list!” He exclaimed, biting his lip.
“B-But, Why me?” I asked, a slight frown visible on my face.
“I-I don’t know, so, are you in or out?”
He smiled, but in his eyes I could see something different,
A weird kind of look,
Almost- desperation, longing.
I nodded, and slurped up the last of my milkshake.
“Alright, I’ll do it” I agreed, his face lit up almost immediately after I said it.
“But, I have to warn you, this could get pretty intense, are you sure you’re ready?” He dramatically narrowed his eyes,
 I rolled my own.
“I was born ready, Boy”
We both laughed and for the first time in 3 years I actually felt-
Happy?
No, not happy, more like...
Excited.

I rubbed my arm and regretted not putting on any sunscreen.
We walked along mainstreet, every once in a while something in one
of the countless shp windows would catch my eye and 
we would stop to look.
“Okay, according to my calculations...”
I sighed, and playfully rolled my eyes.
“Your... Calculations?” I commented sarcastically.
Chase smiled and went back to reading.
“Okay, according to this calculator” He gestured to the one in his right hand.
“...We have to do at least one activity a day”
I nodded. “Continue...”
“I was thinking that today we could...”
He paused, biting his lip. His brown eyes bore into mine as he looked down at my face.
“What?” I snapped, not used to all the attention I seemed to be getting.
“Go Parasailing”
He raised his eyebrows, and waited for a reaction from me.
“Cool” I grinned and he breathed a sigh of relief.
“What, did you think I would be...” I emphasized the last word, saying it in a spooky voice.
“Scared?”
He shrugged and we started to walk down to the beach.
“Maybe, I barely even know you!” He sighed, running his fingers through his hair.
I smiled and after a while we reached the beach.
The two of us approached a boy that looked about our age, he was tallish, with messy blonde hair and green eyes.
He stood in a booth near the lighthouse, above him was a sign advertising parasailing and zip lines.
The boy extended his hand toward me.
“Well, Hello, what can I get you miss?”
He looked at me funny, and spoke in a flirtatious kind of voice.
“Uh, me and my... Friend...” I pulled Chase closer to me, and the boy looked embarrassed that he hadn’t noticed him earlier.
“Would like to go parasailing”
Blondy stared at me.
“Are you sure there?”
I rolled my eyes and looked up at Chase.
“Yes, very”
He nodded and we paid, after the money was exchanged we headed over to another booth which had all the equipment.
“Let me help you there miss” the boy made his way over to me and started helping me into the harness.
“The name is Ben, and yours is?”
“Beth” I replied.
“Well, miss Beth, you are looking smokin’ today”
I blushed and a giggle escaped my mouth, causing Chase to look at us with a puzzled expression.
“I try my best” I remarked. “I can put this on by myself” I slid his hands off of me and continued with the buckles.
“So...” He began. “There is this party tonight, and I heard that its gonna get pretty crazy”
Out of the corner of my eye could see Chase’s smile fade and he looked hurt.
“So, are you in, or out?” Ben winked at me.
“Uh.. “
“You should wear something to show off those legs of yours” He smirked and his eyes travelled up and down my body.
“Uh, sorry, but me and... uh...” I searched my mind for something to say, something to keep this guy away from me, he was probably just another player.
I grabbed Chase by the hand and pulled him over to us.
“Me and my boyfriend are going out tonight”
Chase looked shocked, but soon realized what I was playing at. He wrapped his arm tightly around me.
Ben raised his eyebrows and nodded.
“Alright, let’s get you hooked up to these parachutes then”
Chase flashed me a smile and I punched his arm.
“Could’ve stood up for me back there” I whispered as we walked down to the sea shore.
“I thought you, I don’t know, wanted to go with him”
Once again, for a split second, his face looked unbelievably pained, but it soon turned to relief.
Did he, like me? No...
“Alright! We are going to head up there!” Ben pointed to a hill over on the far side of the beach.
Wow, it did look high...
“Let’s go!” Yelled Chase and before I knew it, he was pulling me by the hand towards the hilly slope.
This was not going to end well.
